Whenever a -1/-1 counter is placed on a creature, you may put a 1/1 green Elf Warrior creature token into play.
Flourishing Defenses Discussion

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I’ve bitten the bullet and have bought the green cards needed to upgrade the original Scorpion King deck to this Golgari beauty.
However, due to budget and certain cards being unavailable I need some potential cards to consider instead of the following.
- Assassin's Trophy (I’ll wait for it to rotate out so it drops in price)
Any ideas would be great

Consider adding Nest of Scarabs . It’s much more mana efficient than Flourishing Defenses if you don’t have an elf-based lay-off. Also, Noxious Hatchling is an absolute bomb in this kind of deck, particularly when one or two Nests or Defenses are in play. Perhaps replacing some of the creatures with a couple copies of Dusk Urchins could be a move as well for card draw.

It all depends on who you're using as the commander. If you're using Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons you'll really want to focus it down. Are you looking for the -1/-1 counter part of it or the 1/1 snake tokens? Hapatra can go off very quickly with snakes.
-Credit to akumawerewolf for his great Hapatra combo list.

So I was surprised to see Vizier of Remedies and not Melira, Sylvok Outcast . In that same vein, I am not sure about the -1/-1 counter synergies ( Flourishing Defenses ), especially if you double down on preventing -1/-1 counters like my last sentence. I think I would rather see Inspiring Call in that slot, or at least in the deck somewhere. I see 28 non-token creatures in the deck 29 with Ghave. Perhaps Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit could be a Juniper Order Ranger and Prowess of the Fair could be a Woodfall Primus . Lastly, I see an infinite combo with Devoted Druid , Ghave, Guru of Spores , and Vizier of Remedies and that you have Blood Artist , perhaps you could run Zulaport Cutthroat or Corpse Knight to work with that aspect.
That said I like where you are going with the deck. I am always a giant proponent of removal and of course feel there could be more, but I have made enough suggestions for now.

If you're going for a budget deck, either Llanowar Wastes or Woodland Cemetery is great. If you're on an tighter budget, Jungle Hollow 's a bit better than Foul Orchard. If you aren't building a budget deck, Overgrown Tomb and Blooming Marsh are great options. Also four dual lands is a bit small, eight would probably be the minimum.
Diabolic Tutor is pretty expensive at four mana, and so is Harmonize . Most decks in modern can win on turn four, so trying to find your pieces on turn four is not a good way to utilize your turn. There aren't many tutors in modern, so I'd suggest coming up with a plan B in case you don't have the pieces of the combo.
I'd also suggest running some additional removal with some of these cards: Assassin's Trophy , Abrupt Decay , Fatal Push , and Maelstrom Pulse . Doom Blade is a bit risky if your opponent has a ton of black creatures, and if so will be a dead card in your hand.
Victim of Night and Go for the Throat are great removal cards that are not very good in certain situations. If you are in one of those situations, and if you have a sideboard ready, you can swap them out for the necessary cards.
Hand disruption is also key to make nothing disrupts your combo. 1-2 Collective Brutality , Two-Four Inquisition of Kozilek s and a pair of Thoughtseize s makes for a great discard package. In the sideboard you could also run Duress against noncreature-spell-heavy decks.

I've been having a hard time figuring out a new deck to build, so I decided to mash together a few ideas. I think there's something here, but it needs quite a bit of changes.
I started with a Mardu Aristocrats deck, but didn't quite like that. In parallel, I tried -1/-1 counters and didn't quite like that. So, I'm trying to use the tokens made from the -1/-1 engines ( Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons , Flourishing Defenses , and a few others) to fuel my aristocrats.
It's pretty lackluster right now, so what do you think? Is this just a pile of cards or could it be a deck?

For some background, my group is pretty casual. Nothing infinite, and for now I want to stick with cards <$5 until I figure out if this will work. Hapatra, Teysa Karlov , and The Scorpion God were among the cards I wanted to play most, which is what led to me 4 colors.

Also adding blue would give access to things like Deepglow Skate , Skeleton Ship , Vedalken Anatomist , Fuel for the Cause , Corrupted Conscience , Viral Drake , Thrummingbird , and most importantly, Inexorable Tide . Add Thassa, God of the Sea to make your creatures unblockable, while giving a scry each turn, and it seems like it should be an easy.
So overall, I think the deck would be better dropping either dropping green completely and replacing it with blue, or dropping cards like Vraska the Unseen , Golgari Charm , Putrefy , and Scuzzback Scrapper and replacing them with the blue cards mentioned above.
