Overview

This is a CEDH list for Thrasios, Triton Hero and Tymna the Weaver. However, unlike other CEDH decks that have black and blue in their color identity, this deck does not run the Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation or similar lines.

This list is inspired by the deck called "Medium Green", which can be found here:

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/tymna-thrasios-medium-green/?cb=1582837498

The goal of this deck is to slow down your opponents with stax pieces while simultaneously building your value engine, which should consist of:

Training Grounds or Biomancer's Familiar, a Seedborn Muse (preferably) or at least a Wilderness Reclamation, and Thrasios all on board.

With this board state, you can use Thrasios to gain immense card advantage and begin to overtake your opponents.

Bonus: get an effect like Leyline of Anticipation and another effect like Teferi, Time Raveler in play to effectively take over other players' turns as your own.

Note: This plan does not have to happen in order to win the game, but the sooner this plan happens, the higher your chances of winning grow.

This deck has two main combo lines:

Bloom Tender or Faeburrow Elder + Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura to make infinite mana, then use your commander to find Walking Ballista.

Or

Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal + enough nonland permanents to tap for at least 3 mana after resolving the Scepter. Same deal as the previous line, kill with the Ballista.

Consultation/Oracle Lines

Here is my personal take on Consultation lines in general:

I recognize that these lines are very good and powerful lines of play, and I recognize that Thassa's Oracle + Demonic Consultation is probably the best combo in CEDH as of the time this primer was written. However, I personally don't like the way they function in this list. For reasons I will give examples of later, I believe that an Oracle-like line leaves the controller too vulnerable should the winning play somehow collapse. If the play collapses or is stopped at the right time, the Oracle player could be left with an empty library and a useless creature on their board for the next turn.

Again, I recognize the power, speed, efficiency, and overall good-ness of that type of combo. That line of play just isn't my style for this deck. I prefer to run somewhat less conventional deck lists anyway.

Oracle Hate

Since this combo is seeing some prevalence in the current CEDH meta, I have opted to run hate pieces for the combo.

But in order to disrupt the combo, we must first know the combo. (In this part, a $ indicates a point where you should interact.) Here are the cards again for reference: Thassa's Oracle, Demonic Consultation.

The play will look something like this:

Player casts the Oracle$. Oracle is put into the battlefield, and its ETB ability triggers. In response to the trigger, the player casts Consultation$. If all goes well for the player, the Consultation resolves and they exile their library, leaving the Oracle's trigger still on the stack$. The Oracle's trigger resolves, and the player wins the game.

Here is how to properly interact with this combo using the cards in this decklist:

Anytime the player with the Oracle casts something, a counterspell can be used. For the initial cast of either the Oracle, a Hushwing Gryff could be cast in response instead of a counterspell. You can respond to the ETB trigger of the Oracle while it is still on the stack after Consultation has resolved by playing either Disallow or cycling Nimble Obstructionist targeting the Oracle's ability, or you could play Angel's Grace which also stops the player from winning.

Of course, some of the suggested interactions above can be done at earlier or different times than what was listed, but it is important to let your opponent mill themselves with the Consultation first if you have the uncounterable interaction like the cycling or split-second. If your opponent mills themself out, then they will simply lose on their next turn rather than giving them a chance to recover.

Stax Pieces

The stax pieces in this deck revolve around one of the following effect aspects: anti-search, anti-interaction, anti-ETB, or anti-mana.

The anti-search cards in this list are Aven Mindcensor and Ashiok, Dream Render and the anti-interaction cards are Teferi, Time Raveler, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir, and Grand Abolisher. These cards are great for the deck because the stax effects are asymmetrical.

The anti-ETB cards, Torpor Orb and Hushwing Gryff, are asymmetrical as well because this deck has no ETB effects.

The anti-mana cards in this deck are Stasis, Winter Orb, and Mana Web. The purpose of these cards is to create an ever-growing gap between you and your opponents' capabilities throughout the game. These effects can be circumvented by using Seedborn Muse for the Winter Orb, or Wilderness Reclamation for the Stasis. The longer and earlier you can get these effects out with an untap card, the better off you will be.

I hope you enjoyed my first deck with an official primer. If you like my list or my primer, or have suggestions for me, please let me know by upvoting and commenting below.
