Jhoira's Recycling Depot

Commander / EDH UR (Izzet)

Greyhame888

Artifacts have always been a favorite archetype of mine, and to be honest I didn't want to build another Breya deck.

Being in Izzet doesn't give us a ton of land-based ramp, but being in artifacts gives us plenty!

Mana Rocks

Other Mana Generators

It should also be noted that we have 2 infinite mana combos in the deck. Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith will generate infinite colorless mana. If you have 2 artifacts in hand, Metalworker + Voltaic Construct will generate infinite colorless mana.

Etherium Sculptor makes all our artifacts cheaper to cast, and Ugin, the Ineffable makes everything colorless cheaper to cast! Ugin combos especially well with Mycosynth Lattice as that makes our entire deck cheaper! And we can't forget our Commander, Saheeli, the Gifted . Her second +1 makes our next spell cheaper based on the number of artifacts in play. Nothing like casting Blightsteel Colossus or Darksteel Forge for free.

For card advantage, we focused mainly on stuff that synergizes with artifacts, but not all of it. Rhystic Study goes in every blue deck in my opinion. In my meta, people will often not pay the 1 and this nets us cards. At worst it's a good tax effect. The rest of our card advantage is also listed below.

One of the main themes of this deck is to generate a bunch of small 1/1 tokens, either Thopters, Servos or Myr, and then use them for value. We can use them for cards, mana, or just to cheat out other good artifacts or creatures.

Saheeli, the Gifted , Saheeli, Sublime Artificer , Thopter Spy Network , Hangarback Walker , Myr Battlesphere , Sai, Master Thopterist , and Sharding Sphinx all make us a bunch of small tokens. Wurmcoil Engine can generate us a couple bigger tokens as well. Urza, Lord High Artificer makes us a nice Karnstruct on ETB.

These tokens have many purposes in this deck. We can use:

Being in blue, we have access to some of the best removal: Counterspells! What better way to remove something than to stop it ever hitting the board? (in most cases anyway) Counterspell , Disallow , Mana Drain , Stoic Rebuttal , and Swan Song all help us stop threats before they stick.

Cyclonic Rift and Blasphemous Act serve as our boardwipes. Nevinyrral's Disk can also clear the board, and can be a nasty one-sided wipe if we have Darksteel Forge on the field.

Steel Hellkite can help us to destroy troublesome permanents after dealing combat damage to an opponent. Ugin, the Ineffable and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon have abilities that can function as removal.

One piece of removal I am especially fond of in the deck is Spine of Ish Sah . Yes, it's 7 mana, but it's also unconditional removal in Izzet. One of my favorite scenarios is to have Ugin, the Ineffable + Etherium Sculptor + Krark-Clan Ironworks out. Cast the Spine for 4 mana, sac it to KCI to generate 2 mana and return to hand, then cast again for 2 mana. Repeat as necessary.

Goblin Welder can actually function as situational removal too. Force an opponent to sacrifice a threatening artifact and return something less useful.

Karn, Silver Golem has a pretty entertaining use. You can activate him targeting an opponent's equipment to cause it to fall off.

Always nice to be able to protect our own board, so we have a couple ways to do it. Our Counterspell package is strong on its own, but we have some permanents to do the job too.
We have some pretty great tutor options in the deck.

We don't have a ton of graveyard recursion, but what we do have is really good.

While not a combo deck per-se, we have a few game-ending combos available. Rings of Brightheath + Basalt Monolith will generate infinite colorless mana. From there, we have a few options:

Combat Oriented Wincons

  • Hellkite Tyrant can win us games. Not only does he steal our opponent's artifacts when he connects, it's not uncommon for us to have 20 artifacts out on our own. If we get to our upkeep, we win.
  • Hellkite Igniter is gross for a similar reason. For just 1R, we can buff him by a massive amount, and can do this more than once!
  • Blightsteel Colossus needs no explanation. One unblocked hit kills an opponent.
Rogue's Passage and Manifold Key helps us make sure all of these connect too.

Sneaky Wincon Most people see Mechanized Production as too slow, but we have a couple ways to win with it. Slapping it onto Myr Battlesphere can win outright. If you can protect it and your Myr tokens until your upkeep, you will win outright by having 8 Myr tokens. It's not hard to have 8 Thopters or Servos out at once either.

Mycosynth lattice Mycosynth Lattice gets it's own section here. This card can enable so many things in the deck it's crazy.

It's just so very good.

  • Karn, Silver Golem is great for shenanigans. Turn opponent's artifacts into creatures before a boardwipe resolves, turn your own big artifacts into surprise blockers, turn equipment into creatures so it falls off, and more!
  • Shimmer Myr giving all our artifacts flash is just great to have.
  • Rite of Replication is just a great spell, either for making more of our own creatures (5 Blightsteel Colossus anyone?) or copying opponent's stuff.
  • Saheeli, Sublime Artificer is great for turning those little tokens she makes into something bigger and scarier for a turn.
  • Paradox Engine needs no introduction. It's broken, and does WORK in the deck, especially with the amount of mana rocks we run.
  • Minamo, School at Water's Edge can be used to let us activate things like Arcum Dagsson and Academy Ruins more than once per turn. It can also be used politically to help out an ally that needs a blocker.
  • Rings of Brighthearth let's us double our planeswalker abilities, which we have quite a few of.
May 30, 2019 - Dropped a mountain, added a Scalding Tarn .

June 8, 2019 - Dropped Shrine of the Forsaken Gods and Temple of the False God for Prismatic Vista and Fiery Islet to upgrade mana base a bit. Replaced Sky Diamond with Talisman of Creativity as it is strictly better and comes in untapped. Dropped Chief of the Foundry for Urza, Lord High Artificer . He just does so much good for the deck. Tolaria West in, Arch of Orazca out. A tutor on a land is great, and grabs our wincons or any good land.

June 29, 2019 - Trinket Mage out, Mox Opal in. I seem to have enough tutor options and fast mana is never a bad thing. Also swapped Temple of Epiphany out for Volcanic Island . I’ve been slowly acquiring duals, and even though the scary is good, an untapped fetchable dual is almost always better.

July 9, 2019 - Manifold Key swapped in to replace Voltaic Key . It’s a strict upgrade as it does the same thing, but can also enable unblockable. Myr Retriever out, Metalworker in. I found the retriever was underperforming, and Metalworker is a great mana source.

August 1, 2019 - Platinum Emperion and Master of Etherium out, replaced with Voltaic Construct and Comet Storm . Combined with Metalworker, Voltaic Construct is another infinite mana producer. And Comet Storm provides another wincon and mana sink.

I also decided to try Jhoira at the helm instead of Saheeli. As much as the cost reduction and tokens of Saheeli are good, the card advantage Jhoira provides is super powerful.

September 25, 2019 - Dropped Buried Ruin for a Mana Crypt .
