Bloated Contaminator

Creature — Phyrexian Beast

Trample

Toxic 1 (Players dealt combat damage by this creature also get a poison counter.)

Whenever Bloated Contaminator deals combat damage to a player, proliferate. (Choose any number of permanents and/or players, then give each another counter of each kind already there.)

wallisface you make some good points about this deck, but maybe you haven't seen Infect/Toxic shells enough to note their significant weakness; they're flimsy. In fact a lot of the community who don't play/don't like infect/Toxic decks, do actually have the commentary that the construction seems weak and unreliable. I detailed some follow up commentary to try and respond to each of your individual criticisms.

  • if we want to improve consistency in terms of "What's the back up plan" then maybe we include the well-known Glistener Elf. Or as I have detailed through other comments, Bloated Contaminator, Thrummingbird, etc.

  • this shell is a combo shell, and that being said I fully admit that yeah. The deck is kind of.. enamored by the Rotpriest. That was.. well, that was the point of the list. To have a deck that (inb4 glass cannon) focused on the Rotpriest because I really like the creature.

  • you said Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief wouldn't care about any of my spells being copied but do you know who does care when I target my own creatures? Rotpriest cares.

  • another comment was about Phantasmal Image being useless, but the utility exists in copying any of our own bodies on entry, or better yet, copying whatever big beefy dude your opponents have cast. Is it a strong choice? I mean, no? We could pick something better here but we're getting into the nuance of what/how/why to use something else, and that's more a reflection of one's own playstyle.

I'd recommend you check the commentary with BotaNickill because they were very helpful with deck construction, discussion, and direction, and we discussed how the shell could be built differently for different circumstances.

If you have any further questions about how this deck functions, please check the deck description, updates, and other comments detailed above before posting.

Tl;dr: the deck isn't meta, and honestly is not that good. If you feel it could be built better based on your own thoughts, I agree; it probably can. And would encourage you to build your own. Best of luck, wallisface.

BotaNickill Simic has provided me with the capability to guarantee my Priest sticks around, or at the very least we're avoiding traditional "dies to this" mentality, whether that's harsh blockers (we go flying and pick Thrummingbird) or were out classed in Beef ( we choose Bloated Contaminator ) but for the majority of the interaction, it's nice to have them lose a 2 to 1 type interaction with removal when you hold up a Fading Hope or something similar like how I hold up March of Swirling Mist. I'd strongly recommend you look into Bant Infect shells in order to see what handles best for you, but I promise Infect works best as a two color shell, because once we've hit three it tends to favor a Midrange style of play. Hope this was helpful! Best of luck building. :)

Glad you liked it. Glory to Phyrexia!

I still need to get a copy myself. I'll be swapping it in for Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos. I originally liked the extra proliferate, but it never did enough when I played it, and the incubate tokens are pretty underwhelming. I also originally thought his ability triggered on all artifact spells, not just artifact creatures. Reading the card explains the card I guess haha.

Have you thought about Roaming Throne? I know your deck doesn't have an abundance of creatures, but since everything is Phyrexian, you could double up on the triggers on creatures like Bloated Contaminator, Ichor Rats, and even Atraxa, Praetors' Voice. Cut the turn count in half if everyone is infected.

One more thing!!

As far as cuts go, anything EXCEPT FOR the following should be cut in favor of a more streamlined strategy with some of the pieces that have been mentioned imo:

Blightbelly Rat Bloated Contaminator Cankerbloom Fynn, the Fangbearer Phyrexian Hydra Scheming Aspirant Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon Thalia and The Gitrog Monster Invasion of Ikoria  Flip Chromatic Lantern Grafted Exoskeleton Snake Cult Initiation Carnivorous Canopy Drown in Ichor Infectious Bite Putrefy Tainted Strike Command Tower Inkmoth Nexus Karn's Bastion

All of these are great picks that can easily slot into the deck's rework.

Tear Asunder better removal

Drown in Ichor cool removal idea

Viridian Betrayers is bad outside of draft I think. Could be any infect creature

Lay of the Land is Strictly worse Dig Up or Thirsting Roots

I think there are a few new cool creatures that improve your plan like Bloated Contaminator or other creatures with toxic.

Happy brewing.
