Cankerbloom

Creature — Phyrexian Fungus

, Sacrifice Cankerbloom: Choose one —

  • Destroy target artifact.
  • Destroy target enchantment.
  • Proliferate. (Choose any number of permanents and/or players, then give each another counter of each kind already there.)

One more thing!!

As far as cuts go, anything EXCEPT FOR the following should be cut in favor of a more streamlined strategy with some of the pieces that have been mentioned imo:

Blightbelly Rat Bloated Contaminator Cankerbloom Fynn, the Fangbearer Phyrexian Hydra Scheming Aspirant Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon Thalia and The Gitrog Monster Invasion of Ikoria  Flip Chromatic Lantern Grafted Exoskeleton Snake Cult Initiation Carnivorous Canopy Drown in Ichor Infectious Bite Putrefy Tainted Strike Command Tower Inkmoth Nexus Karn's Bastion

All of these are great picks that can easily slot into the deck's rework.

DemonDragonJ on sac it to me (Mazirek EDH)

I would recommend Cankerbloom over Caustic Caterpillar, because, while the latter creature has a higher initial cost, the cost of using its ability is lower, which likely shall make a major different over the course of a game.

Helnas on Omnath locus of mana (opinions needed)

Instead of the mana doublers, i would add something like Bear Umbra, untaps your land if you swing with your commander, plus totem armor. Get some protection aswell, Lightning Greaves Yeva, Nature's Herald (just cast commander straight back when he gets destroyed, keep it in your hand). maybe a few spells like Tamiyo's Safekeeping, Tyvar's Stand, Gaea's Gift, Momentous Fall, Shared Summons, Wrap in Vigor some other creatures i didnt think of before: Oracle of Mul Daya, Silverback Elder, Apex Devastator, Cultivator Colossus, Ghalta, Primal Hunger, Cankerbloom, Topiary Stomper, Regal Force

For cutting cards, i would just cut cards that arent creatures or synergize with creatures, or dont do alot most of the time. something like Exponential Growth is gonna be a dead card in your hand most of the times.

Also dont understand most artifacts in your deck. Diviner's Wand for example, 3 mana to cast, 3 to equip, 4 to draw 1 card, 10 mana to draw your first card, and 4 mana for each card after that doesnt seem worth it at all. Id also cut 1x Mirage Mirror, Staff of Compleation, Helm of the Host, Lithoform Engine, Book of Rass

Id also cut: Vigor, Ironscale Hydra, Seeker of Skybreak, Viridian Joiner, Nantuko Mentor

And i would add 4-5 lands. playing a land per turn is stronger then playing an arcane signet or sol ring and then miss a land drop. (id cut arcane signet and sol ring aswell, they are bad draws past t4)

Modern upgrades

Land base -

4x Jungle Hollow > 4x Overgrown Tomb

4x Deathcap Glade > 4x Blooming Marsh

2x The Dross Pits > 2x Nurturing Peatland

3x Forest, 1x Swamp > 4x Verdant Catacombs

Other cards -

4x Cankerbloom > 4x Outland Liberator  Flip (but in the side)

I feel like Outland Liberator is better than Cankerbloom generally but I also think that the newly added Liberators should be in the sideboard though I don't immediately have a replacement suggestion. MV of 2 is good. Power of 3 is good. Maybe Grim Haruspex for the card advantage

4x Glissa Sunslayer

Great card. Keep 4. But you may want to sneak into the deck a way to ensure more consistently dealing player damage

4x Plaguecrafter

no notes. I'm unsure about this card but it has a bit of a unique ability so maybe it's ok.

4x Savage Gorger > 4x Dauthi Voidwalker

Gorger feels underpowered to me. Voidwalker is shadow so more consistent damage (though a tradeoff with no blocking). But much more so - all the discarding and sacrificing? Now you can cast those things

4x Urborg Repossession > 4x Unearth

you may want a mix of the 2. I understand Urborg Repossession can theoretically return 2 cards, but Unearth is directly to the Battlefield

I have replaced Abrupt Decay with Cankerbloom, which I was reluctant to do, as Abrupt Decay is an amazing card, but the creature has better synergy with the sacrifice and reanimation theme that this deck has.

Abaques on Should I Put Caustic Caterpillar …

I might take a look at Cankerbloom. In a lot of ways I'd say it's better than good'ol Caustic Caterpillar. In Meren the proliferate could also be useful.

ThuperThlayer on The woods is dead people

There are a lot of cards I ordered on TCGplayer a month or more ago that haven’t arrived yet. Scryb Ranger is one of them. And I have a Nantuko Vigilante lost in the mail somewhere to synergize with Yedora and those rangers. I also have a Japanese Timber Protector that I want to run because with the second iteration of this deck, I plan to have a few cards to turn all my forests into creatures, like Life and Limb, Living Lands, and Thelonite Druid. And yes, if someone exiles all my creatures, there goes my board state, but that’s why I bought a Natural Affinity. It’s a mean reaction spell if they want to exile my land creatures.

And I have a Mycoloth for a potential combo of saccing all the forest creatures while Yedora is out, which will then let me bring them back as forests.

I’ve had really good success with the deck so far. All the trample and cards that let me pump my creatures due to how many forests I control, Finale of Devastation, Nissa, Ascended Animist and Conduit of Worlds letting me cast them multiple times, it’s all very fun.

Oh I forgot. I’d been thinking of running stuff like Cankerbloom as well because having a creature that can kill artifacts and enchantments is better than instant spells sometimes due to the commander interaction.

Most of the cards you mentioned I haven’t heard, I’ll definitely check them out.

I haven’t considered a sac outlet, even though I see how it is useful. I guess I’d rather leave the creatures as blockers and let them die from another source.
