Yidris

Alright let's get started. This deck has been a creation of mine since the time Yidris was spoiled. I wanted to build a Maelstrom Wanderer for a long time, and Yidris has allowed me to not only build a Cascade deck, but also include Maelstrom himself.

Cascade is a ability on some Alara Reborn non-permanent spells that triggers when the spell is played. This cascade triggered ability will go on the stack on top of the spell with the ability, and because of this the trigger will resolve first. When the triggered ability resolves the controller of the ability will exile cards on top of his or her library until a card is exiled that has a converted mana cost that is lower than the spell with the cascade ability. This player can then play this last card without paying its mana cost. Then all of the cards that have been exiled by this ability are put on the bottom of the library they came from in a random order.

Playing the last card to be revealed by the cascade ability is not mandatory, the controller of the ability can choose to not play it. If they do, then this card is put on the bottom of its owners library with the other cards that were exiled by this ability.

Because the cascade trigger resolves before the spell that it came from, the card that is revealed and played when this trigger resolves will also resolve before this original spell. This is important as some choices may be different because of this order. For example, if a player were to play a Bloodbraid Elf and spell that could target a creature is revealed, the Bloodbraid Elf itself could not be targeted as it is not in play yet.

Alternate costs and additional costs of the revealed spell are not paid by the Cascade ability. Additionally, mana costs with a variable in them, like X, will have the value of X be zero.

Playing the last revealed card does count as playing a spell, so abilities that trigger when a spell is played will trigger. However, copies of spells that are put on the stack will not trigger cascade abilities. This is because the cascade ability only triggers when the spell with cascade is played.

CREATURES

UTILITY

Avenger of Zendikar - Sometimes you just need blockers with this deck while you set up. Avenger helps a lot with this. The deck also runs fetch lands, and a ton of ramp cards so you can buff the tokens up to be more than just blockers.

Consecrated Sphinx - Blue staple. One full round of this guy being on the table allows you to draw 6 or more free cards, and if not answered it helps end games fast.

Courser of Kruphix - Ramp is a big thing in this deck, and the incremental life gain can sometimes make or break your game plan.

Deadeye Navigator - He should be banned, but until then we are going to keep using him for infinite combos, and just card advantage. Paired with Peregrine Drake he means infinite mana. Paired with other creatures we can get tutors, tons of tokens, etc... I'll explain more about him later.

Deathrite Shaman - This card is so good that it got banned in Modern. In EDH it can sometimes seem like a wasted slot, but the games where you get a turn 1 Deathrite is normally a game where you can cast Yidris on turn 3. He is normally not a creature that will draw out kill spells, and that helps further his use later in the game for life gain, and drain.

Gurmag Angler, Tasigur, the Golden Fang - Are both in the deck because of Delve. You can cast them both for , and Cascade for a good sized number.

Mulldrifter - Draw cards, win games, that's how EDH works.

Oracle of Mul Daya - One of the best mana ramp creatures in the game. Nuff said.

Peregrine Drake - It's basically a free spell, so it Cascades for free, and can be paired with Deadeye Navigator for infinite mana.

Phyrexian Metamorph - Can copy any problem card, or can make a copy of any utility card.

Rashmi, Eternities Crafter - I added this card to the deck, and have not gotten the option to use it yet, but it seems to be another free spell that we can get each turn, and just cheat out more threats or spells.

Rune-Scarred Demon - Tutor. Nuff said.

Sheoldred, Whispering One - She's a bitch, and she ends games.

Solemn Simulacrum - Ramps, card draw, pairs decent with Deadeye.

Vigor - Brand new addition. Seems amazing, but will have to get some testing in to find out.

Xenagos, God of Revels - Can give Yidris haste, and double his power. So he can actually end games with commander damage, pairs well with many creatures, and is not very hard to turn him into a creature.

SPELLS

RAMP

Cultivate, Explosive Vegetation, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim. More mana more spells.

TUTORS

Demonic Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Worldly Tutor. More selection, more answers.

UTILITY

Season Past - Seems like a good addition in this deck, I have not gotten to use it yet, but it's use is self explanatory.

Treasure Cruise, Wheel of Fate, Windfall - All great card draw spells.

Asceticism - Gives our creatures hexproof, and allows us to regenerate our creatures. Easy addition.

Future Sight - Sometimes you want to know what cards are on top of your library so you know what spells to cast for Cascade, other times you just want to cast those spells on top of your library.

Mind's Dilation - This card is stupid fun. Sometimes it can just win you a game by a random trigger.

Phyrexian Arena - Basic card draw, if I have to make any cuts this will be first to go.

Rhystic Study - One of the best blue cards in my opinion. The first few turns this is out people don't care, but eventually they start learning to pay for it.

Sylvan Library - Easy addition. Card selection, and card draw.

Chaos Warp - Some things might have protection from our colors, but others can be sent into the warp.

Comet Storm - You end up making infinite mana during a lot of games, and you draw a lot of cards, this will help you be able to just end the game on the spot.

Cyclonic Rift - Your commander is blue? You play this card.

Dig Through Time - More Delve magic, that gets you a lot of card advantage.

Chromatic Lantern - 4 color decks need this... you really need this.

Gilded Lotus, Sol Ring - Ramp for days.

Lightning Greaves, Trailblazer's Boots, Whispersilk Cloak - Protection, evasion, and unblockable.

Sensei's Divining Top - Great way to see what you're about to Cascade into, and help set it up.

TURNS

Temporal Mastery, Temporal Trespass, Time Stretch, Time Warp - I've just added these, because taking extra turns with a degenerate deck is always a good thing. You will probably get some complaining from casual groups.

EXTRA COMBAT/DOUBLE STRIKE/UNTAP

Seize the Day , Aggravated Assault, Savage Beating - Extra combat phases, mean stacking Cascade triggers from Yidris.

Rage Reflection - Double strike does the same, double cascade. I don't focus a lot on Double Strike, as much as I focus on just taking infinite combat phases.

Bear Umbra, Nature's Will, Sword of Feast and Famine - Untap your mana each time you attack. This paired with Aggravted Assault means infinite combat phases.

Hopefully you have enjoyed this write up, any questions or comments are welcome. This deck is not friendly and it is not meant for casual groups, but it is powerful, and fun.
