What began as just a deck that aims to play lands and the best landfall creatures in the colors, has slowly become more refined. I've cut some of the slower, more durdly effects like Exsanguinate and whatnot in favor of more stax-esque effects in the form of Thorn of Amethyst , Null Rod and the like. The reason being that my playgroups vary widely. One group enjoys slower, more casual games where we just shoot the breeze for an hour or so, whereas the other is more competitive. We aren't opposed to throwing around Mana Drain s, hence why I actually cut the Exsanguinate and haven't included Genesis Wave , using infinite combos or MLD. That's where the stax pieces come in, which is an attempt at slowing the game down since I can't really have the most aggressive starts compared to others.

1. Since my only mana rock is a Sol Ring , adding in a Null Rod is an easy include.

2. I don't have many activated abilities on creatures or ETB effects, so Cursed Totem and Torpor Orb slot right in.

3. Again, going back to the point of not having very explosive starts, being able to slam an early Thorn of Amethyst or Root Maze can really bring other decks down to my speed.

4. Artifacts can be a pretty common thing from time to time, and Manglehorn does double duty in both removing a problem effect, as well as slowing down future artifact strategies.

5. One of the guys in my regular playgroup loves to play Child of Alara , and since this deck doesn't really have much to prevent him from recurring Child from the graveyard, I included Leyline of the Void to at least slow him down a little. Also works wonders against other decks in my local meta.
