Regna, the Redeemer Discussion

seshiro_of_the_orochi on Choosing an Aristocrat...

From those you mentioned, ayli seems the most interesting. Slimefoot seems pretty cool as well. I have two aristocrat style decks I'd suggest as well: Regna, the Redeemer and Krav, the Unredeemed are a nice token/lifegain deck. And Kresh the Bloodbraided has a very combo-esque feeling to him without being that much of an actual combo deck.

Masterful on Necronomicon | Teysa Karlov | Speculation Primer

FutureWitness I have seen many people saying she belongs in the 99 as well. The main point in favor of this is that Teysa Karlov doesn't provide any of the pieces to an aristocrats deck herself. In comparison, other commanders like Teysa, Orzhov Scion or Krav, the Unredeemed and Regna, the Redeemer provide tokens and sac outlets by themselves. This means Teysa Karlov has overall less consistency; however, she provides other valuable aspects to the strategy.

You mentioned her necronomicon effect which allows for incredible value. With the other commanders, it will be easier to get an engine going since they provide some parts, but with TK, the engine will be much more powerful. Ultimately it comes down to preference. What you've been seeing are the people that prefer consistency over power, and there is validity to that. I would say competitively, the consistency wins out. Though, in my opinion, new Teysa's ability to copy death triggers is something I definitely want in my command zone.

In the testing I've done so far, the deck has been far from under-powered, but that depends on many factors such as meta and power level. My meta is 75%, but if yours is 90%, this deck would definitely be lacking. Inversely, in a heavily casual 30-40% meta, this deck would stomp.

As for whether or not she should be your commander, its up to you. Her effectiveness as a commander is apparent, and unless you're playing in a super competitive meta, she'll do great.

willis1234 Coils is cool. It makes the death engine run a lot faster and provides a lot of tokens with Requiem Angel . However, it's very slow to get running and does nothing until the engine is online. I'll add it to the maybeboard.

  • I've found that Ashen Rider is a good political tool since people don't really like their stuff exiled. It is a card to consider taking out though.

  • I've definitely been on the edge about Butcher of Malakir , I agree with you here

  • I've been on the edge about Extractor Demon too.

  • I like the "may" clause on Harvester of Souls , but it is definitely a card to consider replacing.

  • In a vacuum Knight of the Last Breath is definitely horrible. However, in this deck it can really work. Sacrificing something to just get a token out of it (along with any death triggers) is useful, and the low 4/4 stats are more than compensated for by the fact that it has Afterlife 4.

  • I do like Krav, the Unredeemed since it can help with many different areas of the deck.

  • Most of my tokens are white, which is why I have Light of the Legion . It is a card that have really been leaning towards cutting though.

  • Regna, the Redeemer is definitely expensive, but I do like token production and the fact that she can tutor for Krav. Definitely one that might not make the cut though.

  • Nomads' Assembly and Storm Herd synergize very well with the token theme, and the fact that all those tokens will gain me tons of life is worth it to me. To be honest since this won't be cEDH they aren't extremely expensive by commander terms, though Storm Herd is definitely pretty high on the curve.

  • Again, while it might be higher on the curve Rise of the Dark Realms won't be extremely hard to get to. Although, target recursion might be better in this deck.

  • With all the tokens I'm gonna get attacking will still be relevant, especially since the tokens dying can still trigger effects. Cathars' Crusade can help, it might not make it in though.

  • Divine Visitation is another card I've been on the fence about, it would probably be better in another deck.

  • While Sanguine Bond /equisite blood do combo, it's not one that I'm actively searching for. 99.999999999999% of the time they will end up being on their own.

  • Been on the edge about True Conviction and Grave Betrayal .

  • Sword of Light and Shadow just gives that extra lifegain and recursion, just have it in the "protection" category because I didn't know where to put it.

Lifeline is cool, I've never seen that before

Totally forgot about Razaketh and Sheoldred. I feel stupid now.

Bontu's will definitely do work

Teferi's Protection has been in and then cut more times then I can count, it is definitely staying this time though.

I've been considering Smothering Abomination , it would be good.

Oversold Cemetery is a really cool card.

Toxic Deluge is a good one, forgot about it too.

I really appreciate this! I'm sorry if it seems like I'm not accepting suggestions/criticism, I just like to provide explanations.

Thanks hkhssweiss!

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor on Ravnica Allegiance: Spoilers and Speculation

I do love me some graveyard/sac strategies which is why I tend to gravitate towards those cards, but I have only one true aristocrats deck that is currently in flux. I am figuring out who I would rather prefer as commander between Krav, the Unredeemed&Regna, the Redeemer and Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker (both very different strategies).

Smothering Tithe is for my Boros-Angel-reanimator list :)

and I reallllly want to try out Mirror March in Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer. Though my build has budget restrictions and is more of a spell slinger version so it might not fit.

Osbert on The Twilight Hours

If you want to go more aristrocrat style I would suggest adding Zulaport Cutthroat, Cliffhaven Vampire, Sanguine Bond, and Falkenrath Noble for more drain effects. Make the drain a really attainable goal with Wound Reflection, Painful Quandary, and other friends.

Heirloom Blade, Dark Prophecy, Grim Haruspex, and Midnight Reaper can help keep your hand healthy, Prophecy noticeably draws off of token deaths.

Demon of Dark Schemes usually has a problem where you run out of energy faster than mana and the new Teysa remedies this so he might be worth a look.

Maybe lean into the life gain route because each token with lifelink is a separate life gain trigger. Karlov of the Ghost Council, and Regna, the Redeemer slot well in here and have relevant abilities.

Oketra's Monument is decent ramp and a token producer to boot.

Crypt Ghast and Cabal Coffers are great includes in a deck with an Urborg. Run a few unlimited tutors to find one if you have the other.

loricatuslupus on HEAVENLY INFERNO - Kaalia of the Vast UPGRADE

Always nice to see another Kaalia deck as she was my first (shameless plug: Still Better than Dan Brown...). Firstly, is that "sideboard" in fact meant to be your wants list? If so, just make your acquireboard public to avoid any confusion! Anyway I'd recommend losing Ancient Hellkite, Mana-Charged Dragon and Victory's Herald. Consider Angelic Field Marshal/Demon of Wailing Agonies/Tyrant's Familiar as you'll usually be getting them out with Kaalia. Speaking of, if you want to stop her getting munched take a look at Dust Corona and Reconnaissance, either of which might be better than Angelic Chorus or Exquisite Blood - good cards, but 5cmc is the spot where you can start thinking about hard-casting creatures and you don't really seem to have any synergistic plays with gaining life (perhaps introduce Krav, the Unredeemed/Regna, the Redeemer combo?). If you can upgrade your package to include Anguished Unmaking and Vindicate over cards like Wrecking Ball then do: unconditional removal is never a dead draw. Finally, Helm of the Host is epic with Kaalia.

Ps, I see you run Armageddon. Depending on who you play with, I would recommend either going all-in on the land destruction by getting more mana rocks and other spells like Cataclysm or dropping it entirely. It can make you very unpopular...

Hey moldycrow83 thanks for having a look.

I cannot believe I missed the opportunity for Necropotence here! It is currently in my Edgar Markov deck but this a far more better place for it!

I had a look at Rhox Faithmender when i designed the deck. The decks focus is on getting value out of life-gain triggers and I do not want to commit to the life gain theme. That is also the reason I ddo not use the Vizkopa Guildmage because the chunks of life are too small. One of my previous decks that fully utilized lifegain is this one, have a look:

For now I am trying to revise my deck. The original plan was to create a bunch of tokens with Regna, the Redeemer, pump them and attack. However this is not working consistently and I need another direction to build this deck. I consider going full aristocrats at the moment. If you have any thoughts, let me know.
