Captain's Hook Discussion

So, I'm actually working on a high-powered combo deck similar to this, although I paired Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator with Vial Smasher the Fierce , for a few reasons; Curiosity has a target in the command zone, making Vial Smasher a pirate can cause him to make treasure, and adding black can help me find my combo pieces.
I wanted to play combos from the beginning cuz I'm a Johnny at heart. Instead of using Arcane Adaptation (cuz I forgot about it) and Maskwood Nexus (the only copy I own is in another deck) I instead used Runed Stalactite and Captain's Hook . Will be switching over eventually, and adding black gives me access to not only Mayhem Devil as another combo piece, but there are a slew of add-black pirates that help disrupt the field.

“I'm not terribly attached to it, though.”
Unlike the Captain's Hook of course, my mistake ;)
I just noticed (like the comment before me) you only run 33 lands (including mdfc). I try not to go below 38 lately and have noticed much less screw in doing so. Of course, 4-5 more cuts seems heavy, here’s some more suggestions though:
- Fire Whip is cool with malcolm but fragile
- Valakut Exploration is a way to “draw cards” but if you don’t run the lands to trigger it
- Black Market you don’t really have a sink for this mana, so where will you put it? It will charge up naturally over time but optimistically this gives you 1 mana by turn 5 and 3 or 4 by turn 7 in my experience
Have you played the deck yet? How was Nadier's Nightblade? At first i thought “why” but it’s a decent wincon with all the treasures!

TheBestMagicCard I considered Sunforger but I wanted to try to avoid it for originality and a more casual approach to Boros equipment. Definitely if people want to upgrade stuff id say include it and probably add a couple more instants to the deck. I also considered the Kaldra equipment and maybe should've included them but ended up using my budget on equipment like Bloodforged Battle-Axe and Helm of the Host.
And sorry I guess it wasn't super clear but Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist is a big part of the deck and lets you attach your equipment to target permanent which with Helm of the Host or any other equipment in the deck you could use Ardenn to attach them to your opponents creatures. That's why Captain's Hook was included in the list as some removal. Just some janky stuff. Thanks for the concern though and for the recommendations.

Captivating Glance seems like it'd be very good here, as the control effect continues to apply even after the glance moves to something else. Custody Battle works similarly. And Fractured Loyalty, which is particularly strong because you can target the enchanted creature with Ardenn's ability to get the creature, then later move fractured loyalty to something else with Ardenn's ability and repeat the process to gain multiple creatures over time.
These might interest you too: Captain's Hook (attach to opp's creature using Ardenn, then pass it along to keep destroying dudes), Assault Suit, Infectious Rage, Steam Vines, Shifting Shadow, Spirit Link, Aurelia, the Warleader, Spark Double, Copy Enchantment, Clever Impersonator

Sakashima of a Thousand Faces: oh baby, finally a replacement/complement to Mirror Gallery: cheaper, doesn't group hug, and actually does something outside of janky combos. Making multiple Krark's Thumbs in my Obligatory Zndrsplt & Okaun Coins Deck is looking a bit less magical christmas land, esp. as Sakashima can copy Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom for great profit.
"Reyav, Master Smith": yeah he's an uncommon but this isn't an interesting direction to take in
Mana Drain: very nice reprint

I suggest running 2-drop rocks over 3-drops. I think you should run cards like Rakdos Signet over Obelisk of Grixis. I think Talisman of Indulgence, Talisman of Dominance and Talisman of Creativity are probably better than the signets though.
Dack Fayden is probably a good fit for this deck. He's powerful and a thief (sorta a land-pirate, I guess).
The cuts are going to depend on how much you're willing to compromise flavor. Captain's Hook, Prying Blade, Fell Flagship and Dusk Legion Dreadnought seem like good cuts. There're also a bunch of creatures you can cut for better ones or to get down to a hundred cards: Brazen Buccaneers, Crafty Cutpurse, Rigging Runner, Siren Lookout, Slippery Scoundrel and Talas Warrior. I don't think they do enough to be included.
That's all I got -- hope this helped.

I love a good tribal deck, and have considered building a pirate themed deck of my own. I think the Grixis aggro style decks are interesting, and Admiral Beckett Brass is a fun looking and vastly underplayed commander. I have a few thoughts that might help steer your deck building into a more precise direction.
One major thing I think you should lean more into the "combat damage to a player" aspect that your commander provides, as stealing permanents can be extremely important in EDH. Swarming the board with hard to block creatures will allow you to quickly gain advantage over your opponents, so I would play more cards that lean into that plan. Dire Fleet Neckbreaker, Bident of Thassa, and Rogue's Passage can help to keep pressure on your opponents, and Kitesail Freebooter provides another cheap flier that could snag removal/ramp spells from an opponent.
If you're just looking for fun tribal, might I suggest the biggest flavor win that you missed... Captain's Hook
