Hey Steven89,

Thanks for taking the time to discuss your views, I’m glad you like it.

I’ll go through your feedback step by step

Phyrexian Triniform

I’ve actually not tested it yet. Haven’t had it come up yet. It seems like a decent enough card, though a little bland. I actually talked a little bit about it in my previous comment. It’s interesting though that you mention welder and trading post. It seems to go exceptionally well with both of those engines, being a loop all by itself like wurmcoil is.

Clone shell

This card has been .. fine. I like the random aspect of it, and the fact that it’s another artifact to weld or trade away, but you’re right in thinking that the timing is awkward. One thing that helps here is my play-style with the deck though, as i mention a little down below.

Wheel effects

There are some other wheel effects that may go unnoticed: Cavalier of Flame, Knollspine Dragon, Dragon Mage, Magus of the Wheel and Sandstone Oracle all help me refill my hand in some way and are very synergistic with the deck. I think however that wheel of misfortune would be a great addition, so i’ll try and find a spot for that as well.

Rituals and play style

I find it interesting that your playstyle differs from mine. I never really considered anything else for Purphoros. I agree that it’s easy to become a target when ramping out our commander too fast, but for me this is what i like about the deck, nice and explosive and going out in a blaze of glory. While you’re right that we can run out of gas pretty quickly if we miss our wheels, i prefer ramping to Purphoros but then hitting the brakes a little (as mentioned under the tab “strategy” in the description):

By not doing stuff on your own turn you seem a little less aggressive than you may have at the start, while keeping up mana on everyone’s turn deters people from attacking you (“you could have anything!”). I like this style of play because it allows you to play with more information than when you just flash in creatures on your own turn, attack, and hope for the best.

Ideally i play purphoros on turn 3, then on turn 4 i pass with mana up, and flashing a creature in at the player to my right’s eot, so that i untap with it and my mana. That way i get an attack with it without ever really having tapped out, and it allows me to repeat this process the next turn, or, when possible, flash 1 or 2 more cards in and swing with 3 dragons for the win on that turn. This style also makes clone shell a little less awkward. Instead of flashing it in on their EOT, you do it on their second main so you sacrifice the shell on their eot, giving you a creature you don’t have to sac on your own next turn. I hope this makes sense, I’m curious what your preferred lines with the deck are, maybe we can learn something from each other!

Also which other rocks would you recommend running? I thought i ran most decent ones.

Keldon firebombers

Seems like a great card, but it would make my friends too salty, so i don’t think i’ll add it.

Shatterskull smashing

Great card, may add when i get one, but it’s not worth its current price to me.

Valakut exploration and Moraug

Exploration seems a little out of place here. I’m very happy with it in my Omnath deck though :) Moraug could definitely be nice due to the haste... somehow never really considered it. Though i don’t want to run too many taplands alongside my rituals and real fetches are too expensive just for that card. Definitely an interesting suggestion. Can i see your list somewhere?

Daedalus19876 - very nice Araumi deck, left a comment and + 1

For the next one: I'm looking for feedback on "My First Voltron TM" which i just built and wrote a primer for. It's fresh, so probably a lot to talk about. Check it out :)

Said on To Drown the …...

#3

Hey Daedalus19876 - very nice Araumi deck. I would've built her myself if i didn't already run muldrotha and purphoros - she seems a bit of a combination.

You asked for non-creatures cards to cut in the "Advertise your deck!" forum: how about Unearth? It seems a little too cute and the potential hits aren't thrilling. Cycling 2 is not cheap enough for me to consider it a "free" addition.

Of the creatures i'd probably cut Obsessive Stitcher as it seems a little slow and expensive. Good luck!
