Strategy Show

This is a human tribal midrange deck. It wins by dealing good old combat damage. Your strategy is to assemble a board while disrupting your opponent's play with hatebears and protecting yourself in different ways.

I developed this deck in a control-midrange meta. It should be very effective against such decks. You should consider exchanging some cards, if you are facing combodecks, although some of your cards are good against such decks to.

Why should you play this deck? You should play this deck, if you enjoy winning by having more resources than your opponents and like to see your opponents crumble under huge swings. You should also give this deck a try, if you've become annoyed with beeing disrupted by your opponents again and again. You can show them that their counter spells and removals are not as strong as they might believe :)

You shouldn't play this deck, if you want to be able to win in a fast way and to interact as much as possible with your opponents, because this deck trys to shut down interaction.

How do you play this deck? Show

Try to get your hatebears like your Thalias, Blind Obedience or Aura of Silence out as fast as possible. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben in turn 2 is really good in disrupting your opponents ramp. Doing this is crucial against any non-midrange deck and still very good against midrange decks. This should give you enough time to build up your own board.

During midgame your opponents should hopefully be forced to attack you or disrupt your play somehow, because you've become a threat to them. This is good, because it means that they can't spend resources on their plans to win. This deck provides you with a lot of cards, that protect you from your opponents attempts to disrupt your play. It contains a lot of graveyard recursion to protect you from removal and even wraths. Cards like Teferi's Protection or Grand Abolisher prevent your opponents from even playing their answers to your board. Your commander becomes very handy here, too.

During the late game your opponents should have less resources than you. Now it's time to win the game by playing one of your winconditions and killing one opponent after another. Your winconditions increase the power of your swings, so this shouldn't take long.

Winconditions Show

Angel of Glory's Rise immediatly creates a board as long as your graveyard wasn't removed and feels really good to play :)

Champion of Lambholt makes all your creatures unblockable. Sigarda can create Tokens in order to give him counters.

Elesh-Norn is quite self-explaining. Makes Sigarda's tokens much stronger.

Mirror Entity Boosts your board. Also gives Sigarda hexproof.

Odric, Lunarch Marshal and Odric, Master Tactician provide evasion (one of them is usually sufficient to win the game).

Resilience Show

Since all winconditions depend on a strong board. This deck contains various cards to ensure strong resilience against enemy threats.

Sigarda, Heron's Grace herself. Obviously she protects you and your humans from targeting spells. Furthermore her ability to spawn tokens gives you chump blockers and protects you against cards like Fleshbag Marauder, which force you to sacrifice creatures or permanents.

Elemental Bond, Ajani Unyielding, Mentor of the Meek, Shamanic Revelation and Skullclamp give you enough carddraw to outvalue your opponents. Furthermore they can cancel out carddisadvantage from wraths. Especially Mentor of the Meek, Shamanic Revelation and Skullclamp have strong synergies with Sigarda, without depending on her to be good.

Angel of Glory's Rise, SunTitan, Emeria Shepherd, Emeria, The Sky Ruin and Eternal Witness allow you to rebuild your board quickly after wraths and generate a lot of value, too.

Thalia, Heretic Cathar, Grand Abolisher, Lightning Greaves, and Mother of Runes do further protect your board. They give also a slight political advantage since your opponents will often use their answers against each other instead of waiting for a hole in your defense.

Teferi's Protection protects you from various threats, such as wraths or combos.

There are some cards, which are often played in Sigarda, that I do not want to play. I want to explain why I decided to leave them out. I hope this helps you in case you want to modify this deck.

-Cathars' Crusade or similar effects: Effects that strengthen your board are good in this type of deck. However you should only play the strongest of these effects. The Problem of such effects is, that they depend on a board to do anything. This is a severe disadvantage. Therefore you want to play such effects on creatures like Odric or Mirror Entity, because they help you to build up a board in addition to strengthen it through their effets.

-Tokenspawners like Thraben Doomsayer: Most Tokens are to weak in EDH. Your opponents start with 40 life each! Most Tokens need to long to inflict lethal combat damage. Therefore they are often useless without multiple(!) board strengthening effects. The creatures included in this deck are much less dependant on specific cards. decks, that do the same without beeing dependant on specific cards are faster and stronger than decks, that depends on them. I made an exception for Elspeth, Sun's Champion, because she is just to strong.

shenanigans Show

There are some shenanigans that you should know about, when you play this deck.

Mirror Entity gives Sigarda hexproof, since she will become a human.

Knight-Captain of Eos can use Sigardas tokens to activate his ability.

Teferi's Protection is really strong, if combined with a wrath.

Aura Shards and your commander are able to destroy your opponents ramp extremly fast.

Skullclamp and your commander provide insane Carddraw.

Mentor of the Meek and your commander do this, too.
