Sen Triplets want to play your deck

Commander / EDH WUB (Esper)

Greyhame888

Alrighty, so let's jump right into the breakdown of my current favorite EDH deck!

I know that there are a ton of different ways to build the lovely Sen Triplets , but I decided to go with a "Play your opponents' decks against them" strategy. It makes every game different and forces you to really pay attention to the game. It's definitely my favorite playstyle right now. The deck is built around either stealing, cloning, or straight-up playing cards from your opponents' hand and library.

Overview

The deck has a few main components:

  • Protecting our commander
  • Color fixing to play our opponent's stuff
  • Playing our opponent's cards from hand and library
  • Cloning opponent's permanents
  • Stealing opponent's permanents
  • Policing the board
  • Utility and Goodstuff
  • Notable Omissions

Click each heading below for a breakdown of each element of the deck.

Of course, the ladies need to stick around long enough for you to do this consistently, so the deck includes a protection package as well. Whispersilk Cloak , Darksteel Plate , and Lightning Greaves all help keep our commander on the board. We also have some instant speed answers like Teferi's Protection and a small suite of Counterspell s to help protect us including Force of Will , Mana Drain , Swan Song , Disallow , Archmage's Charm and Cryptic Command . Putting big creature threats into the yard is very useful for the deck, as you will see in the "Playing Your Opponent's Cards" Section later. Other counterspells like Aethersnatch and Desertion have the advantage of not only denying your opponent a threat, but allow you to steal it for yourself!
You will note that Sen Triplets still require you to have the correct color and type of mana to cast things from an opponent's hand or library. If you happen to be playing against some combination of Blue, Black, and/or White this is easy. But how do we get access to those pesky green and red spells?

First off, lets look and the lands and artifacts that we can use. Cascading Cataracts , Exotic Orchard , and Thespian's Stage can all be used to produce mana we may not be able to get otherwise. Exotic Orchard is especially good in this case. We can also access an artifact package including cards like Chromatic Lantern , Coalition Relic , Darksteel Ingot , Fellwar Stone , and Gilded Lotus to achieve this.

Or we can simply make sure we don't need to worry about mana colors at all by casting Celestial Dawn . This lets us remove all color restrictions from casting spells.

First and foremost, our commander Sen Triplets does this exceptionally well. She allows us to straight up play anything from an opponent's hand. This includes lands! If we can get Helm of the Host onto our commander, we can potentially reveal every opponents' hand at once and stop them from interacting with us on their turn.

Gonti, Lord of Luxury and Thief of Sanity are great in the deck. Thief being able to mill stuff into our opponent's yard to we can make copies with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind , or exile and copy with Dimir Doppelganger , is great, but not even the best part. Both creatures give us the option to cast one of the exiled cards later!

Bribery allows us to search our opponent's library for the biggest threat or utility creature that we need and simply put it into play on our side of the field. Sphinx Ambassador has a similar effect, but after combat damage and with a twist. Mind's Dilation is another fun card that can net us some great benefits. Nothing like an opponent flipping a counterspell off the top and using it to counter what they were going to cast!

Cloning is a pretty major theme in the deck. Making copies of each opponent's best permanent is very powerful, especially if we can make 5 of them with a kicked Rite of Replication ! A large chunk of our creatures and a few enchantments are chosen for the ability to clone stuff. Cryptoplasm , Phyrexian Metamorph , Sakashima the Impostor , Sakashima's Student , Stunt Double , Vesuvan Doppelganger , and Vizier of Many Faces all become clones of creatures. Clever Impersonator is especailly good because it can become any non-land permanent. Take note that many of these creatures don't target, so they get around hexproof and shroud!

Mirage Mirror becomes a copy of whatever we need it to be at instant speed. Thespian's Stage can copy an opponent's land too.

Why clone your opponents' stuff when you can just outright steal it? Enchantments like Control Magic , Corrupted Conscience , and Treachery will let us steal an opponent's creature.

Resolving an Expropriate is nasty at the best of times. Basically give me an extra turn or permanent of my choice for each player.

Gilded Drake is pretty fantastic too. Why yes, I will swap my 3/3 flyer with your Blightsteel Colossus, thank you!

Empress Galina you say? Why yes, I will take control of your commander! You were just about to Ult your planeswalker? Not anymore, I think I'll do it for you.

Memnarch allows us to steal artifacts of all kinds permanently. Especially nasty with a Mycosynth Lattice on board.

Archmage's Charm grabs any X-cost thing, or a Sol Ring, etc.

There is obviously a good counterspell/control shell here. See the Protection section for a breakdown. We also have some strong removal interaction with Anguished Unmaking , Cyclonic Rift , Hero's Downfall , Path to Exile , Return to Dust , and Swords to Plowshares .

Austere Command and Merciless Eviction fill the boardwipe slots. This is really the only area that I didn't focus on too much in the deck.

There's a selection of Utility and Deck Enablers here. Conjurer's Closet allows us to blink our clones and return them to the battlefield if a better creature shows up. We can also use it to blink Gonti, Lord of Luxury every turn to abuse his ability. As Foretold can allow us to play big stuff free free later in the game, hopefully from an opponent's hand.

Blue goodstuff like Rhystic Study , The Immortal Sun , and Consecrated Sphinx draw us cards and/or tax our opponents. Archmage's Charm is a new addition for this.

I also like to use modal spells like Cryptic Command and Archmage's Charm to give more flexibility. Countering a spell and returning my Gilded Drake to my hand at the same time is just great. Thinking about adding a Mystic Confluence later too, just not sure what to swap.

Mystic Sanctuary is pretty solid spell recursion.

You will likely notice the lack of tutors in the deck. One of my favorite things about Commander is the variance. I largely try not to run tutors. Of course this is a personal choice, they can definitely go in to make the deck more consistent.

Board wipes. In general I don't run too many as I find that constant wipes hurt me more than my opponents. The deck relies alot on theft and copies, so it's good for me to have targets.

Planeswalkers. The only walker I really considered for the deck is Jace, the Mind Sculptor and that was only for his utility. I noticed that most Sen Triplets decks like to run Tezzeret's for the artifact utility. I went a different way. Plus, walkers are a bit of a nonbo with The Immortal Sun . I may still add the Jace at some point.

February 2nd, 2019 - Swapped out Mycosynth Lattice for Smothering Tithe . Smothering gives us treasures that we can sac for any color, but also ramps us.

June 8, 2019 - Temple of Silence out for Strip Mine to deal with troublesome land like Homeward Path . Preordain out for Archmage's Charm . It's just a better card. Another counter, card draw, or theft :D Also swapped a Swamp for Prismatic Vista . Fetches are always good.

June 29, 2019 - Swapped out Temple of Deceit , Temple of Enlightenment and Adarkar Wastes for Underground Sea , Scrubland and Tundra . Seemed like an easy swap!

July 17, 2019 - Mystic Confluence out for Sphinx Ambassador . Fun new way to grab a creature from opponent's decks.

September 23, 2019 - Paradox Haze and Temple of the False God out, Force of Will and Mana Crypt in. Temple is a trap, Mana Crypt accelerates us much better. And Force is just too good not to have.

October 10, 2019 - Dropped an Island for a Mystic Sanctuary .

Thanks for reading about my deck! Hopefully you enjoyed it, I certainly enjoy piloting it.
