Bubbling Muck is from the Urza's Saga expansion and therefore not Modern Legal. I don't feel like Cruel Reality is that great here because of the high mana value. Twilight Mire is not a good choice, because in order to get the you have to pay , or in this case 1 black, or 1 swamp. You can also get the same thing with swamp, swamp. When you say you have the good majority - does that include the 4 Phyrexian Obliterator ? Which ones don't you have?

Options for midrange cards - Wall of Bone , Burglar Rat , Brain Maggot , Blight Beetle, Dune Beetle , Fog of Gnats .

Here's a good card you may want to include: Gray Merchant of Asphodel (also called Gary). In this deck, I think it would be good. In your meta, I wonder about Archetype of Finality , although the high CMC makes it questionable. A friend was talking about this deck, and was wondering if Revenge of Ravens might be something you were interested in? Or maybe Stab Wound to make a creature less powerful and cause a constant drain?

i'm no pro or anything but I like to put cheap tanky guys, that said I hear 4T is the key to a great def in this standard. Dune Beetle is cool

Hey there! This looks like a great start to your first Magic deck! Welcome to the game, and to tappedout.net!

First of all, I would recommend reducing your deck size to the minimum - 60 cards. For every card you add over the minimum, it reduces your chances of drawing your best cards. I get that this might be hard to understand - if I add more cards, wouldn't my deck get better? However, let's say that Oracle's Vault is the best card in your deck. (This is just an example, your best card could very well be something else.) With a 105-card deck, you have a 1/105 chance (0.95%) of drawing Oracle's Vault. With a 60-card deck, however, your chances of drawing Oracle's Vault rise to 1/60 (1.7%), almost doubling your chances of drawing your most powerful cards. In any case, I'd take out the following cards:

This should make your deck a little more consistent, and hopefully a little more fun as well. In any case, I hope you have an excellent time playing Magic!

Hey guys - just entered a draft league. They let us pick up 4 packs to start (2 ANK, 2 HOU) and build 30 card decks from there. I think I got the short end of the pulls. Especially when I look at the awesome (frustratingly so) pulls that my GF got, who is even more of a newbie to the game. Anyway, this is what I put together:

Creatures Frilled Sandwalla , Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, Naga Vitalist, Dune Beetle , Wretched Camel, Ruin Rat, Bitterblade Warrior , Sidewinder Naga , Ornery Kudu , Giant Spider , Bitterbow Sharpshooters

Spells Compelling Argument, Gift of Strength , Synchronized Strike , Splendid Agony, Cartouche of Ambition, Torment of Venom

Artifacts Traveler's Amulet, Bontu's Monument, Oketra's Monument

Land Ipnu Rivulet, Desert of the Glorified, Desert of the Indomitable, Grasping Dunes,1Island, 4Forest, 2Swamp

The idea that I had was to go BG for tossing -1/-1 with Vizier, and having some creatures and pumps. Splashed U for milling.

What else did I pull? Garbage, I think. White was especially thin, which is sad because it's one of my favorite colors.

Now, my list of cards is recorded at the store, so I can change the deck but obviously cannot add any cards from elsewhere. I'm wondering if I shouldn't have featured Red in the deck, maybe just cut my losses and went RG to keep it simple. Can anyone help me out? It's fairly casual, but I don't really want to get my head caved in for the next two months of MtG.Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I came 1st at my LGS for the Sunday arvo prerelease.

I cracked Liliana, Death's Majesty, which means I've now opened a playset of them, including a foil.

Shame I've not really got anything I can do with them.

I also opened Bontu's Last Reckoning, so I was going to play for sure.

I had a couple of Creatures, and a few decent Creatures, so I decided to play

The last match was the most interesting. I was playing off against my partner StuBi for first place.

I got there in the first game because I had fliers and he didn't.

In the second game I got him down to 2 life, but then he got out a Creature with Lifelink, and a lot of big fatties, and overwhelmed me.

In the final game I was doing a couple of direct damage to him each turn, but we both had lots of fatties out and were at a standoff.

I had been using Lili's +1 quite a lot, then fishing Creatures back out of my Graveyard with her -3, so I had almost milled myself.

I wasn't really able to use Lili's final ability as StuBi was playing a Zombie deck.

StuBi played Chaos Maw to kill a lot of my Creatures, but I had about four or five that were Toughness 4 or greater so we were still at a bit of a stand off.

I looked through my Graveyard and realised that I hadn't seen Bontu's Last Reckoning yet. I also had a Creature with Eternalise in the 'Yard.

In a couple of turns I drew Bontu's Last Reckoning and cleared the board. I then cast my Creature with Eternalise. It was a 2/2. StuBi was on 8 and I had five cards left in my library.

He got Apocalypse Demon on the field.

Unfortunately he never got another Creature out.

I got Dune Beetle out as well, and was able to chip down his last bits of life.

I killed him with two cards left in my deck.

StuBi ended up cracking the The Scarab God out of the extra packs we had been given, so it ended up being a good day for both of us.

I think you'll need more removal. The 2 Never is not going to be enough. You have a bunch of counters, but what happens if someone slips something through? You need some package of Fatal Push, Grasp of Darkness, To the Slaughter or maybe even Essence Extraction. You can replace some of the creatures you have that don't do much... like the Dune Beetle, Scribe of the Mindful, or Baleful Ammit. They take the mana you would use for counters and removal.

Also, keep in mind that Kefnet's Monument doesn't tap the creature it targets, it just says they don't uncap next turn. I just found this out myself when playing with it in a sealed deck. If you already knew- great- but I just thought I'd mention it.
