Unwavering Initiate

Creature — Human Warrior

Vigilance

Embalm (, Exile this card from your graveyard: Create a token that's a copy of it, except it's a white Zombie Human Warrior with no mana cost. Embalm only as a sorcery.)

I recommend the following changes:

Cut 2 Colossapede, 2 Bitterbow Sharpshooters, 2 Wall of Forgotten Pharaohs, 4 Aven of Enduring Hope, 2 Winged Shepherd, 1 Sandwurm Convergence, 1 Greater Sandwurm, 1 Mirage Mirror, 2 Life goes on.

Add 3 Rhonas's Stalwart, 1 Resilient Khenra, 1 Gideon's Defeat, 1 Dauntless Aven, 1 Tah-Crop Elite, 1 Vizier of the True, 1 Rhet-Crop Spearmaster, 1 Trial of Solidarity, 1 Sunscourge Champion, 2 Bitterblade Warrior, 1 Unwavering Initiate, 1 Initiate's Companion , 1 Naga Vitalist, 1 Act of Heroism.

The biggest problem of your current version is the mana curve, you have way too many mana intensive cards and very little ramp, so i would cut the 5+ CMC cards for the aggressive 2 and 3 drops from your card pool and play a more aggro version of the deck.

3-drops I'm cosidering:

- Acrobatic Maneuver card draw and flicker (for Regal Caracal or other stuff).
- Gideon of the Trials because everyone needs Planeswalkers. jk
- Glint-Sleeve Artisan would work well since it either comes as 3/3 or gets you a token which will be multiplied
- Forsake the Worldly but this would be more SB'ish
- Solemn Recruit completely out of the theme but there's always tokens leaving the game so I'd say free +1/+1-counters
- Start / Finish but it's not that great without black mana
- Trophy Mage to tutor Oketra's Monument
- Unwavering Initiate because it's not so bad and has Enbalm
- Vizier of Deferment will let me flicker Regal Caracal to proc its effect again (+Oketra's Monument if it's in play) or prevent an opponent's creature from dealing damage.

I'm not too sure about Fumigate because it would wipe my board as well

Baral, Chief of Compliance: Can help with your control plan, in combination with your counter spells this will generate card advantage.

Channeler Initiate: Can help fix your mana and then become a threat itself.

Courageous Outrider: May be a weak option, but he can help you gain card advantage within your current theme.

Devoted Crop-Mate: If they remove a creature that you would like to have back, he can throw it right back into the fray.

Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip: Used heavily in the old Bant humans and also the Aristocrats decks.

Glory-Bound Initiate: A 2 cmc 4/4 Lifelink every other turn could be useful. Even stronger in combination with Always Watching.

Maulfist Revolutionary: It's a human and it bolsters your theme. It can also be used on your Planeswalkers which might be relevant, similar to skyship plunderer.

Renegade Rallier: Another human that can pull your creatures back from the grave.

Rogue Refiner: Kind of off theme because of the energy, but it's a 3 cmc 3/2 that draws you a card. Might be worth consideration...

Tireless Tracker: This card finds it's way into a ton of decks, if nothing else your opponent will respect it enough to use a removal spell on it.

Trueheart Duelist: Kind of a strange option, but it could be a lifesaver against aggro decks.

Unwavering Initiate: This is another fringe option, though a 3/2 Vigilance in theme may make the cut.

Vizier of Deferment: This one seems like it belongs in the deck to me, the versatility is a real bonus. Offensive and defensive uses that assist the growth of Thalia's Lieutenant.

I'd suggest taking out some of the embalm cards, simply because they aren't great and you need to embalm them before they synergize with your deck. So take out Trueheart Duelist, Unwavering Initiate, Binding Mummy and Tah-Crop Skirmisher. You can replace those cards with Chasm Skulker, Gather the Townsfolk, Martial Coup, Secure the Wastes, Homarid Spawning Bed, Druidic Satchel, Sacred Mesa, Oath of Gideon, Timely Reinforcements and Entreat the Angels. for better token generation.

Also why not play Counterspell? it's better then cards like Essence Scatter and Negate.

This card needs to be in every token based deck! Intangible Virtue!!

I'm gonna start by mentioning only cards from amonket, there are a few others like Glimmer of Genius i think that would be nice but i'll put that aside for now

The biggest problem i see at the moment is the mana curve. If you want a deck to be aggressive, you want to applying pressure as soon as possible. Having no 1 drops makes that a bit awkward. Even if there was a good 1 mana card with embalm (wouldnt surprise me if a 1mana embalm creature shows up in the next set) i still am slightly worreid how well the intersection of an aggro deck and an embalm deck would be.

Looking at the embalm ability I see it working better in a more defensive deck. The idea of embalm is that after creatures die, later on in the game when you get more mana you can get an advantage. Control decks not aggro ones are where this would occur. In an aggro deck the game will likely be decided by the time you get the 7 mana needed for Glyph Keeper.

This all being said, despite your description the deck seems to be already leaning more towards control than aggro. I would personally continue down that path. Here are a few general ideas though to go down a more controlling path. If you want to transition to aggro instead, let me know and i can try to help with that too.

1) Monuments: While the monuments are nice, they don't trigger when you activate embalm. They're not bad since about a third of your deck is creatures, it's just something to be mindful of

2) Zombie tribal?: When you embalm a creature it comes back as a zombie. Makes me wonder if it's worth playtesting around with a few zombie tribal cards like Binding Mummy which would trigger when you embalm. Not sure how good it would actually be, I havent played with the card myself but might be good enough. Embalmer's Tools probably deserves a mention under this category too.

3) Interaction: You don't have too many ways to interact with threats out of the opponent. You could use counterspells like Censor or Essence Scatter but i think the deck would benefit most from the inclusion of Cast Out

3) Wraths: If you do have a controlling deck it would be nice to have some ways to clear the board. Dusk is probably your best bet for that within the block. I could see dawn being situationally useful since a lot of the creatures have low power but it's primarily the front half i'm focusing on since embalming removes them from the yard

4) Draw power: Hieroglyphic Illumination is a little worse than glimmer in my opinion but it is playable in amonkhet block constructed. The one thing it does have over glimmer is that it is something to do turn 1.

5) Cutting a few of the weaker creatures Unwavering Initiate and Gust Walker are aggressive but are't as good in a control shell. If you wanted to take a more controlling deck i'd cut them.

I think an embalm/token deck is also viable. If you did i would focus less on embalm in particular and more on tokens in general. You could use Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun combined with cards that make tokens beside embalm. I could see a blue/white/green midrange token deck being decent in the format Trial of Strength or Mouth could work. Vizier of Many Faces is one of the better embalm cards here. Anointed Procession can also provide support. You would need a lot of ramp to pull it off but Sandwurm Convergence is a card.

I assume you mean enbalm when you say realm (autocorrect?) which your deck does have, but rather incongruous in that the ones you have picked, well, suck. Anointer Priest is a better option, and fits with your token theme. Unwavering Initiate is a strict upgrade over Trueheart Duelist in that yes it costs more, but has a more relevant ability. You don't block as the zombie player, you attack. But if you are gonna block, do it after attacking, with vigilance.

For the cycling part, since I still see Horror, check out Stir the Sands. Late game tokens, or you can cycle and still get tokens. Also, I agree with JerichoDarkstar in that Angel of Sanctions isn't a bad embalm card, if you don't mind going into late game for it.

I would also advise instead of Miasma Mummy use Dread Wanderer. A) its a one drop instead of 2, and B) recurs itself and C) it's not card disadvantage, for arguably the same stat value (pay no attention to toughness, you are zombie, you just attack). If you are looking late, pick up one or two of Liliana's Mastery. It's a very-hard to remove lord that comes with 6 power and toughness on 2 bodies.

Time to Reflect is a great removal card in this deck, so maybe a sideboard option against control, as Fatal Push will never hit their Torrential Gearhulks. Forsake the Worldly is another great sideboard for you with the cycling.

U/W Tokens

I'm not exactly sure if this is a viable archetype. There are a few token generators and Embalm which make me think its worth looking for.

Oketra the True, Anointed Procession, Regal Caracal, and Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun push tokens at RARE/MYTHIC

Oketra's Monument might be a decent token generator if you have enough creatures in your deck.

Aven Wind Guide looks like the pay off card.

If you are able to get some of the enablers above then I would look for common embalm cretures to fill out the deck. Anointer Priest, Unwavering Initiate, Sacred Cat and maybe Tah-Crop Skirmisher

Perhaps Drake haven with a focus on cycling and token is a sub theme of the U/W cycling deck? I'm curious to hear if anyone else thinks this is a viable strategy.
