The Funny Lizard

The goal of Yurlok of Scorch Thrash is to give everyone a bunch of mana, and then watch them burn and die for it. This is a group slug deck, so it is easy to get hated off the table. But we balance this out by giving everyone a shit ton of mana too. Ideally, this deck is able to utilize the abundance of resources better than our opponents, but it makes sure someone wins quickly which is nice.

The major thing here is combos with Yurlok. These take a couple of pieces to pull off, but are almost a guarantee win if you do. (They do all require Yurlok of Scorch Thrash to be on the board)

The first part of the combo is having Yurlok tap for more than , this allows the combo to go infinite and burn our opponents with extra mana:

  • Nyxbloom Ancient - This allows us to tap all permanents for TRIPLE mana, this make is absurdly easy to pull off anything in the deck, including this combo.
  • Mana Reflection - tap permanents for 2x the mana
  • Leyline of Abundance - Creatures tapping for mana add an extra which is just enough

The next part is the ability to untap Yurlock which we do through artifacts.

Due to our man's being such a threat, we have some inclusions to help protect him and make him faster.

The section has ramp for ourselves as well as the group ramp that occurs for everyone. The above cards: Nyxbloom Ancient, Mana Reflection, and Leyline of Abudance are all great personal ramp.

Ramping for ourselves:

Ramping for the Lord:

As a note, we need some instant speed interaction to be able to get rid of any excess mana as it does burn ourselves as well and there are a few permanent options to help with that.

  • Kessig Wolf Run, Crawling Barrens, Slimefoot, the Stowaway - Instant speed activated abilities using mana. Reliable mana sinks.
  • Leyline Tyrant - Keep unspent red mana, can nuke someone if left unchecked.
  • Magus of the Candelabra - Can dump mana to untap lands. This is great to essentially save the mana for later, or increase mana production. If lands are tapping for extra mana and there is a combo artifact out, this can generate infinite mana and win the game without Yurlok at all.
  • Horizon Stone - You don't need instant speed interaction if you just don't loose unspent mana...
  • Hexdrinker - Protection from everything and a great mana sink.

Now that we have accomplished the Ramp, we need options for all the extra mana we are generating beyond just hoping we burn our opponents first. That is where our lovely costing spells come into play:

  • Crackle with Power, Exsanguinate, Roiling Earthquake, Torment of Hailfire - These are all spells that hit all three opponents and will likely give you the W with your mana at this point in the game.
  • Helix Pinnacle - This is a secondary option that lets you win on your upkeep if it takes that long.
  • Hooded Hydra is here mostly to provide blockers as we do struggle with blockers during the game.

This deck does not just focus on burning people with excess mana through Yurlok, but also softens them up to make it easier to win with Yurlok or the cost spells.

Changes from above

I do not want to edit the primer tbh, but broad changes were adding group card draw for that to be a group hug option and then a few small tweaks to other cards. Also added some good option from cards I own like Food Chain even if it is not a great option for the deck.
