Leyline of Abundance

Enchantment

If Leyline of Abundance is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it on the battlefield.

Whenever you tap a creature for mana, gain an additional .

Hey legendofa, thanks for the upvote! I saw your Leyline of the Guildpact deck the other day (as you know) and thought the combo approach was quite crafty.

That card has been on my radar since it spoiled and I thought maybe something can be done based on devotion (Aspect of Hydra)? Imho green has some very solid leylines anyway (Leyline of Abundance, Leyline of Vitality) and with cards like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx that might be able to get outta hand quickly.

I'd appreciate your opinion on the idea, since I know you're a fellow theorycrafter. What do you think would be a reasonable shell? Can not make up my mind between enchantment tribal, or mana dork tribal or sth else entirely.

Cheers!

Yes, the undying loop requires haste

Nature's Chosen is used primarily on Tayam but really any white creature. You then use that enchanted creature to untap Gaea's Cradle for the most part, as Cradle is a core aspect of the deck.

Whenever you have a chance to tutor, your first targets should always be either Wall of Roots or Gaea's Cradle depending on your hand.

Another example of how powerful Gaea's Cradle is, theres a loop with Sylvan Safekeeper where you can replay Cradle for more and more mana as long as you have the counters to supply this loop, for example with Leyline of Abundance or Hexdrinker

In short, when Yedora, Grave Gardener turns a dead creature into a Forest, and Life and Limb makes it into a creature, will tapping that Forest creature for mana produce an extra green mana from Leyline of Abundance? My assumption is that it effectively exists as a creature with the ability to tap and add one green, like a Llanowar Elves (but a saproling), and should therefore trigger the Leyline. But I just want to make sure. Thanks in advance!

legendofa on Diamond lion and enhanced mana …

Diamond Lion's ability is a mana ability, since it adds mana. It also has to tap to use it. Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy and Leyline of Abundance add extra mana when a nonland permanent/creature is tapped for mana. Does these cards allow the Lion to generate extra mana?

As far as I can see, this works, but I want to make sure there's not some odd corner rule about paying more costs or sacrificing or something.

My first thought is to cut the expensive lands. While Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Boseiju, Who Endures, and Cavern of Souls are all very good cards well worth their price tag, they can be reasonably replaced with less expensive options, down to basic Forests. That will cut +/-$100 there.

For another big cut, The Great Henge can be replaced with Soul of the Harvest if you're using it for card draw (I was going to suggest Guardian Project, but you already have that), Llanowar Tribe for ramp (already have Leyline of Abundance), or Door of Destinies for pump. This will cut another $40-60.

From the looks of it, budget isn't a great concern for you, so why not run some Moxen? Mox Amber, Mox Opal, Chrome Mox, and Mox Diamond. Jeweled Lotus is ok too, but it is a bit lost on Kinnan. Lotus Petal and Elvish Spirit Guide are more budget, tbh.

Also, Freed from the Real, Concordant Crossroads, and Mana Crypt/Mana Vault are nice. And Leyline of Abundance.

I would recommend focusing more on creature/artifact ramp than land ramp, as Kinnan will reward you handsomely for those and not so much for land ramp.

The Great Henge if you're not on a budget. If you are, then Leyline of Abundance and Ulvenwald Hydra.

Some thoughts:

  • As has already been said before, infect decks generally want to be just running creatures that can deal infect damage - you currently have a LOT of cards that have no place in an infect deck, namely Alloy Myr, Coretapper, Darksteel Myr, Evolution Sage, Obelisk Spider, Shimmer Myr, Titan Forge and Myr Matrix are all creatures (or make creatures) that are completely useless for an infect strategy.

  • You seem to have a lot of cards that are just 1-ofs and 2-ofs here. That's going to lead to a really inconsistent (and so weaker) deck. Aim to mostly play playsets of cards if you can.

  • You seem to have a bunch of cards that have no real place in either Infect or Modern in general. Mana rocks like Dimir Signet, Coalition Relic, Myr Reservoir certainly have no real place in an Infect deck, and don't really make it into any Modern deck unless they're doing something particularly janky. Leyline of Abundance, Force of Vigor, and Dimir Charm are all also really weird spell choices.

  • You have nothing to do one turn 1. Infect decks are known for being fast and reliably threatening lethal on turn-2 or turn-3. Not being able to cast something on turn-1 reliably is going to put you ages behind and put your opponent at a huge advantage. You should have at least 8-12 cards you can cast on turn-1 (so far you have 0, meaning you're always starting a turn behind your opponent). Furthermore, sooo many of your lands enter play tapped that you won't even be able to reliably do something on turn 2... fix that landbase!

  • Your mana curve goes waaay too high. I would suggest ditching all of your 4 and 5 mana cards, and at least halving your amount of 3-mana cards (if not removing them entirely).

  • You're running waaay too many creatures for infect, and you don't have nearly enough ways to pump them. This is going to cause you all sorts of problems. Infect creatures are generally weak, so you want to aim to end a game quickly, and going-wide doesn't help you achieve that.

An example of where to start with infect is here - this page lists 3 infect decks of various budgets, and should give you a good idea of the direction the deck should head in.
