Join the team over on The 99 as we discuss the deck. Let's make a better Selvala, Heart of the Wilds!

The 99 - Part One - Strategy & Infinite Mana Loops

The 99 - Part Two - The Stampede & Play Lines

The 99 - Part Three - What to Avoid & Budget Alternatives

The Gist: Winning in Three Easy Steps!

  1. Turn 2, Cast Selvala
  2. Turn 3, Generate Infinite Mana
  3. Start the Stampede

I'll explain what "the stampede" is in a moment, but basically you want a starting hand that will allow you to cast Selvala on Turn 2 - this is paramount to the success of the deck and what allows Selvala to be competitive - and come Turn 3 we should hopefully have kept or mulligan'd for a hand containing big enough creatures or buff spells to get the mana sufficient to cast our infinite mana generator(s) or a draw/tutor spell for a solution to generate infinite mana. Once we have that going, the deck will win with a series of infinite loops. Before we get to combo'ing out for the win, or even discussing the ways to generate infinite mana, let's talk about how to get Selvala out on Turn 2...

There are fourteen ways (not including Land Grant) to get Selvala out on Turn 2. This ratio can change by adding additional cards like Birds of Paradise or Jeweled Amulet, but I've found fourteen to be the magic number from all my testing. Even if I have to start with 5 cards, which often happens, we can still eke out a win with the right hand. We'll talk in-depth on what you should be looking for in your starting hand and when to mulligan over on The 99. Now, let's generate infinite mana...

(These methods are assuming you're only using mana from Selvala's activated ability)

Honorary Mentions

*The stated "Power on Battlefield" is considered a minimum requirement for the given loop

Obviously, any mana available from lands or alternative mana sources will help to diminish the costs of these set ups, but it's important that a Creature - either naturally of stated power levels or buffed to - be on the Battlefield, as these loops may not work otherwise. These cards need to be cast, which is a factor to bear in mind when setting up for infinite mana. Lastly, this is where the stampede truly begins.

Once you've generated infinite mana, we're ready to start the stampede. Leading up to this point, you'll have likely cast a large creature, gained mana off said creature, played an untap effect, gained more mana off of large creature, destroyed said large creature to draw cards, played another big creature... You get the picture. I like to consider this stirring the stampede. After which, we want to finish our opponents off by drawing the rest our deck and throwing every creature we have at them.

Drawing the Deck

  • Duskwatch Recruiter   - This werewolf is easily the best method for drawing all of our creatures out. If you only have one creature tutor left after generating infinite mana, grab this guy. He will allow you to harmlessly pluck all of our creatures out and play them onto the battlefield.

  • Temur Sabertooth & Cloudstone Curio - Alongside Selvala, these two cards will act in the same fashion bouncing your largest creature to hand allowing you recast it, drawing a card off of Selvala's first ability.

  • Lifecrafter's Bestiary - If you've generated infinite mana using a loop that does not feature a large creature, or you've done so with an artificially large creature and you don't have a big creature to cast, this is your best friend. For example: with our 5 & 6 power infinite mana loops, we can recast our Wirewood Symbiote or Mana Dork paying an additional Forest to get the infinite card draw we need.

  • Staff of Domination - In a world with infinite mana, need I say more?

  • Genesis Wave - Not so much "drawing" your deck as it is playing it, but you get the idea. We're able to play out every permanent with this card: it's a staple.

  • Tooth and Nail - This alone does not allow you to draw your deck, however... If we've net infinite mana, we can grab Temur Sabertooth and any large creature to bounce and draw off of Selvala's first ability.

  • Weird Harvest - There are definite draw backs here, but generally speaking there aren't a lot of creatures in cEDH. For the Selvala player, yes. That's where this comes in handy. We can grab every one of our creatures to place onto the field. If we're concerned about some form of retaliation from our opponents due to this, only grab Duskwatch Recruiter   for the same effect.

  • Eternal Witness & Temur Sabertooth or Cloudstone Curio + Any Draw Spell (preferably one that doesn't Destroy Creature) - (Nearly) All of our methods to generating infinite mana require a bounce. With cards like Soul's Majesty nestled away in our grave from an earlier play, we can bounce EWIT repeatedly to grab and play our draw spells. This same loop can also be accomplished with Skullwinder.

  • Eternal Witness & Temur Sabertooth or Cloudstone Curio + Most Any Tutor Spell - In much the same fashion as our draw effects, we can simply loop EWIT (or Skullwinder) with cards like Chord of Calling to get all our creatures into play.

  • (Honorary Mention) Genesis Hydra - This card is typically most valuable when we're stirring the stampede, however it can be played once we net infinite mana to grab a core card out of our deck. Usually it'll grab Temur Sabertooth, Cloudstone Curio or Concordant Crossroads.

You'll notice that "Drawing the Deck" and playing out all our creatures is one in the same effect, as with Selvala our creatures are our biggest draw potential. Now, if Genesis Hydra grabbing Concordant Crossroads wasn't enough of a giveaway, let's talk about how this deck wins.

There is a loop with Beast Within & Eternal Witness that's cute, but is largely unnecessary. Destroying our opponents field, giving them 3/3 Beasts and playing Somberwald Stag a couple dozen times to set them back to square one is just salt in the wounds. Really, poor etiquette. If you've gotten this far, your opponents will be losing anyways, so let's relieve them of this game and move on to the next one.

If, big if, but if your opponents decide to interact with any of this, just recur the cards with EWIT or Skullwinder; and if by some freak circumstance you're not allowed to go off with Concordant Crossroads, because some wise player wanted to deny your victory, THEN you use the Beast Within loop to show them the inevitability of their defeat and watch that same player scoop.

I won't be discussing play lines with this deck here as it is completely dependent on your board state and hand, which will change from game to game. Recognizing the core cards to this decks success - by looking over this guide - should provide enough wisdom as to what you'll want to look for. However, if that's not enough, be sure to join us over on The 99 as we discuss play lines and provide a mulligan guide for this very deck!

Patrick Marlett, The 99

October 11th, 2019 - Elvish Reclaimer, Skullwinder & Centaur Garden for Return of the Wildspeaker, The Great Henge & Castle Garenbrig - With Throne of Eldraine, we received some excellent additions for Selvala! Centaur Garden has always been the odd man out in this list, as the utility barely came in handy when Threshold was met. Now we have an excellent way to Ramp out Selvala (should she be removed) with the Castle. Skullwinder was in place as a redundancy, but when we're trying to execute a win on Turn 3, we can go without. Instead, we now have another Draw engine via Return of the Wildspeaker. Lastly, Elvish Reclaimer is a favorite of mine, but never fell out curve precisely right. Now we'll utilize The Great Henge for additional Card Draw and Ramp. If Selvala is taken out the Henge will still be playable off our big Creatures and help to recast her and the Draw effect off all our Creatures will help us keep a healthy Hand. Loving the new additions and I encourage any Selvala player to consider them.

July 13th, 2019 - Shared Summons, Veil of Summer & Leyline of Abundance for Tooth and Nail, Somberwald Stag & Basic Forest - Slowly the Foresting is being trimmed away from Selvala's wilderness, but with good reasoning: as the Deck becomes more efficient, the need for Lands as back up decreases. With M20, we received a new Creature Tutor in Shared Summons that is excellent on and off of our Combo Turns. With a low Mana requirement and the ability to Cast at Instant speed, we've found the perfect replacement for Tooth & Nail, which has proven less useful in testing. Veil of Summer adds to our suite of protection and is a must in all future Green lists. It will sit alongside Autumn's Veil, Avoid Fate, Blossoming Defense & Vines of Vastwood as a means of protecting Selvala on Combo Turns. It replaces Somberwald Stag who - with the recent addition of Savage Swipe - has become an irrelevant Card. Post-Infinite Mana, Savage Swipe/Selvala may be used to "Stag Punch" the Beasts we Create from Beast Within. Lastly, a Basic Forest was cut to make way for a new Turn 2 enabler for Selvala: Leyline of Abundance. Either Cast on future Turns or placed on the field from our opening Hand, this new Leyline unlocks the doors to newer, faster Combo lines.

June 9, 2019 - Scale Up & Savage Swipe are added, Savage Swipe for Lifecrafter's Bestiary & Scale Up for Phytoburst - So... This particular list has lacked decent Creature removal. We're not exactly hurting for Buff Spells, but we're always welcome to new ones. Along comes Modern Horizons and we get two new options, both by way of Buffing and one in particular for removing. Savage Swipe will always have a target in Selvala and alongside Pendelhaven most all of the Deck. With it, we can kill pretty much every Commander in opposition. For now, it'll take Lifecrafter's place as an additional (situational) Win Con. Next up is Scale Up. This card is a strictly better Phytoburst: 1 Mana less, 1 Power more and will work in exactly the same way (Sorcery for Sorcery). It's important to note, this does not strip your Creature(s) of Abilities, so it can be used on Selvala in a pinch (however, we'll generally be targeting a Dork). Only thing that could make these Cards better is a Kicker for Hexproof, but as is Selvala got a whole lot stronger.

April 18, 2019 - Finale of Devastation takes the place of Eldritch Evolution - Eldritch always had a few hiccups in it's design: having to sac a creature as part of the cost and only getting one in return of 2cmc more was fine, but never quite hit the mark. FoD on the other hand... Is quite like the name suggests: Devastating. Not only does it work as a finisher post infinite mana, if finds us anything (given the prerequisite mana) from either our Library or Graveyard... This is the best thing to happen for this deck in while and a must add for those interested in Selvala, Heart of the Wilds.

April 3, 2019 - Treefolk Harbinger for Sylvan Tutor - not only a good choice for those trying to budget their Selvala list, the Harbinger hits (most) all the targets Sylvan Tutor would target and more: 1. Great Oak Guardian & Sheltering Ancient, 2. In a pinch, Dryad Arbor or a Forest, 3. When sided in (which may soon be main boarded), Lignify. While I'd advise using both, I personally find Sylvan Tutor to be wanting. However, again, either is an excellent option... Furthermore, a blocker for those pesky Tymna's? Yeah, we could use one.

March 14, 2019 - Elvish Spirit Guide for a Forest - not sure why I didn't do that sooner, haha. It's an additional way to get Selvala out Turn One or Two and offers you an Elf on field should you be missing one for a Wirewood Symbiote loop (assuming you have the Power/Mana on deck to initiate the loop). Pretty good value there.

DragonLordJippy, I am confused on the usage of Berserk in this list. What is your preferred play-line for this buff spell?

April 27, 2020 6:36 p.m.

davidwhowrites, the 5 power creatures like sheltering ancient can't go infinite in some lines, like temur sabertooth, wirewood symbiote, an elf, (with the green tutors finding creature I've found this is a more common than using umbral mantle or staff of domination), you can even cast it on the sabertooth so selvala can tap for 8 without having a big guy. It can work like a ritual if you need an extra burst out of a selvala activation and can be used as a removal spell in some corner cases (this is not usually the case).

April 27, 2020 7:28 p.m.

Dezmin1414 but I can "Cast only before the combat damage step." which means I get the boosted power and bigger mana post combat, which means I cant damage everyone out that turn.

April 27, 2020 7:59 p.m.

Heya! I've found your list almost a year back and spun my own list off of it! Selvala's pretty fun, and props to you for making such a great list! I do have a few questions, if you don't mind.

  • I've noticed that over time, you've cut Vitalize, but I've been loving those cheap untap effects myself. I've even tried Emerald Charm and I've found that I really like the 1 mana ritual, it helps a lot during comboing early. Also, I've frequently used them with Eternal Witness loops, it's just so versatile. What are your thoughts on these effects? Do you not like them as much anymore, or did you just not find them that useful with how the deck has changed over time?

  • How is The Great Henge? I've never tried it, but I've noticed that you had it in your list for quite some time. Is it for backup/grinding? How good is it on average, if you go for a fast combo?

  • How is Hyrax Tower Scout and Kogla? Tower Scour seems bad to me, I'd usually just rather have a cheap untapper, or Great Oak Guardian. Kogla seems more interesting, though, does he pull his weight?

  • I've really liked Memory Jar, but I'm seeing people moving away from it. I've found that it's pretty great for goldfishing early wins, is it just too risky?

  • Lastly, I remember your reasoning behind not including Birds, but from my experience, what it lacks in a tribal tag it makes up in just being a T1 dork still. Having included new avenues for combo since then, have you considered subbing it back in, since it not being and elf would be less of a drawback?

May 18, 2020 6:48 p.m.

I'm just happy to see that King Kong made the cut. E Wit makes a fine Ann Darrow.

May 21, 2020 11:37 p.m.

Chainzar

Colossification may add a ton of Mana, but Selvala's hat trick - Drawing Cards off of big creatures hitting the battlefield - will definitely get hampered by it.

davidwhowrites

Why the confusion? It is easily the single best buff spell in the list: play it, tap Selvala, do things. When used in tandem with another buff spell is gets better. Test the Deck and play with it: it is an essential for the Deck.

StanleyH

  • There are better play lines to shoot for than a EWIT/Kogla or Temur/Untap Spell loop, but they still exist with Benefactor's Draught, which has proven more than enough for the Deck. Green values Creatures (by way of Tutors), play for them.

  • The Great Henge is excellent if you're on the back foot and need to recover or are in the middle of storming off and need the additional Draw. It is however what I would consider a flex spot, but I have been enjoying it so it stays (for now).

  • Tower Scout + Bounce Effect + Big Creature = Game Ending. I love Hyrax here, maybe the only viable Commander to run it in unless you need a cheap, Kiki-Combo Card. Tower Scout goes infinite > Scrib, Wirewood & Quirion. Kogla is flexible, but I like him in the Deck. We're running a pretty greed list, so his effects are a massive boon; but if you're still on Somberwald Stag, take that shit out and use Kogla.

  • Memory Jar is unreliable and we have all the Tutors we need to play with our Creatures and Draw spells to get there. I'd avoid Memory Jar. Use that EWIT on a Draw spell, cheaper/better.

  • I have never once regretted omitting Birds from this Deck and doubtful ever will. Playing Selvala on Turn 2, even if mulling to 5 Cards, has still produced wins. The percentile chance of getting there is high enough without Birds and the recently omitted Gemstone Caverns

KidEnkidu

Haha, agreed. Kogla is staying for now, but it is by no means an essential. However, I love the ape.

DragonLordJippy in the current list, there are cards that are said to be omitted in the updates section. Was the list not updated or is the update section behind on the list?

August 16, 2020 1:38 a.m.

Hello, I was wondering if the list currently up is accurate? Reading through the updates there are a few cards listed as having been replaced but are still in the list. I'm using this as a sort of intro deck for me to get into C-EDH and wanted to start out with the correct list for me to work from myself. Thanks!

I was curious about a couple of things... I have watched your videos and looked over your decklists and they are great btw! My question is... I've noticed a lot of the cards you have in the deck on your videos do not show up on the deck list. Why is that? It makes it a bit confusing as to what cards to run exactly. Your help is appreciated.

Examples are: Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Vitalize,

October 12, 2020 10:45 p.m.

DragonLordJippy ... Could you please update this decklist? I would really appreciate it. I've Seen you use and mention different cards that you had added or were going to add/take away when they came out, that hadn't yet came out at the time of this deck list posting. Just some of the cards I've heard you mention different places or seen in your deck on different videos that I am curious about... Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Phytoburst, Shared Summons, Pattern of Rebirth, Vitalize, Ashaya, Soul of the Wilds, Nylea, Keen Eyed, Groundswell, Fauna Shaman, and many more. I love this deck. I run it myself almost card for card, but I have been trying to sub a couple in and out and having trouble settling on a final list. I am very curious to see what your Selvala Deck list looks like today and what you have put in and more importantly what you have taken out. Much Appreciated! Love the content! Keep it coming! Go Mono-Green Go!!!

  • Selvala does not win on the spot. It would mean bad threat assessment and the waste of a Counter. It's best to used Removal or a Bounce spell and only if she's on a roll of Tapping/Untapping, Drawing and so forth.

  • Tutor for Harbinger? Never. You don't Survival -> Harbinger -> Top Deck Tutor Lignify. Generally, if there's a great enough offender, my Opponent's will have removed it for me (generally a Partner, Toad or Zur). However, you do abuse Treefolk Harbinger if it's in your opener or is Drawn. With it and a big Creature, you can Draw whatever you Tutored for on the spot. That is the value of Harbinger, it being only 1 mana to Tutor (generally) Lignify or Great Oak Guardian when looking to cut down a Hatebear or Commander or combo off. Not to mention, it's an extremely relevant Blocker at 0/3.

  • Generally, if I do not have an opening hand with: 1. A Turn 2 Selvala, 2. A Big Creature or Buff Spell, and 3. A Draw Spell or Tutor, I do not keep said Hand. I took this list to Command Fest DC (Chantilly). It won all but one of nine games. Not to be a bragadouche, but I consider that fairly successful. Knowing what your list does and how it succeeds at that given whatever your Opponent's might be doing to thwart you makes all the difference. Make and play this list, make whatever switches you'd like, I am positive you will find much the same success given practice.

December 26, 2019 6:09 p.m.

I love this list! thanks for keeping it updated and making the great videos. You inspired me to make a similar list with some Eldrazi. I don't want to change the synergy too much, but Im trying to narrow down what to slot and where. If you'd like to take a look at the list, you can find it here: Arbor Annihilator

Regardless, thanks for introducing me to this awesome commander!

Eaterofpizza

Of course! You are very much welcome... Selvala is a longstanding favorite of mine. She's an exemplar of what makes Green one of the strongest colors in Magic.

Regarding the Eldrazi angle. 1. I love it, 2. Could narrow down the number of Drazi's to add more Creature Rocks and perhaps Priest of Titania... Your curve is a bit higher than mine, so it'd be advisable to add more ramp. Also, Phyrexian Dreadnought ! You must get your hands on one. It's costly but necessary, especially with how the high cmc of those Drazis. Another utility to consider would be Coveted Jewel . I'm considering it here... 6 Mana Draw 3 with "Tap for Three" is extremely valuable and even better in a list like yours with numerous beefy Blockers. Be well and Happy Brewing!

I love this list, and I'd love to see more explanation of recent updates and more content on the youtube channel about our girl.

March 12, 2020 8:44 a.m.

Hi, love the deck tech and all the updates, thanks for that !

First question, whyn not running Walking Ballista ?

It's seems that the win cond need an attaque step, would you concider running Dosan the Falling Leaf to prevent instant fog or mass attacking creatures removal ?

And last question, what about destroying all lands, artifacts and enchants with Acidic Slime using infinite mana and Temur Sabertooth ?

Maybe it depend of the pay groupe, but it's kind of risky to depend on an attack step to win imo.

Hey! I'm considering doing some update videos... However, they are kinda narrow. For the list I maintain consistently from set to set, I do try to run an "Update" here. I'll look to doing that.

Ribhaal

I've never run into a situation where I couldn't win on the Attack Step. Not once. Been playing Selvala for... Going on two years? No one runs Fog effects (at least, not among the individuals I've played in the NYC area). However, if you are concerned about it: Post Infinite Mana -> Cast Beast Within -> Retrieve it with Eternal Witness -> Bounce her with Temur Sabertooth/Kogla, the Titan Ape -> Bounce

Hello! I'm also building a (more or less budget) Selvala deck at moment and your videos are very helpful, thanks! What do you think about Colossification from Ikoria?

April 24, 2020 2:01 a.m.

Hey guys, I love the deck. I just started to build this deck this week and your videos were so helpful. I love how you break the deck down rather than just writing it all out. Your deck and explanation helped me to better understand how the deck functions and convinced me to get rid of primal command. I can't wait until you guys have more content.

February 21, 2019 2:41 p.m.

Just a short Question: why do u play windswept heath, etc if u could run a basic forest? it costs way more and it will only get me a basic forest onto the field plus you loose a life(not that thsi 1 life counts).

April 1, 2019 12:34 a.m.

I'm guessing the inclusion of the fetch lands is for fetching a Dryad Arbor if needed and just for the added utility of thinning out the deck. Also, it helps reach threshold in the case that you have Centaur Garden to pump a creature some more.

May 17, 2019 8:20 p.m.

You say Land Grant is one of your fav cards, but you've sideboarded it. Did it fall out of favor? I've never used it. I can see how it's a deck-thinner, but how does it help get out Selvs on turn 2?

What do you think of Malachite Talisman ? Weird janky card but i love it for Selvala.

Treefolk Harbinger so slow!

If you add Ancient Tomb then Crop Rotation becomes another way to cast Selvala on turn 2. ---- I just realized you do have Ancient Tomb so maybe I missed it but did you mention Crop Rotation into Ancient Tomb in your primer?

Scent of Ivy and Aspect of Hydra are in my deck. Might they be better than Savage Swipe or Scale Up?

If you like Centaur Garden then you might also like Hashep Oasis as well. Me I prefer regular forests but it's out there.

Speaking of forests, I run Snow-Covereds along with Mouth of Ronom do you know the Mouth of Ronom uses?

Force of Vigor is a new card I like. What are your thoughts on it?

Last card, might not be the best but it's a pet fav card of mine: Seedtime Yeah people say it's situational but honestly, it seems to me that more games i've played have used Seedtime to great effect than games in which I actually got more than 1 mana per turn from Carpet of Flowers.

Anyway, love your list, love your videos. I subscribed!

June 24, 2019 1:50 p.m.

XaiLo

  1. Land Grant allows you to keep greedy hands (one Land, w/Dork)
  2. It is fairly jank, haha. Very slow, unlike this next card...
  3. Treefolk Harbinger finds us: Lignify , Sheltering Ancient , Great Oak Guardian or Dryad Arbor (which works well in tandem with Gaea's Cradle )... So, removal, ramp, win con or mana. I suggest running it. Remember, Selvala let's us draw off fatties, so this isn't only a set up card.
  4. Neither are better, I hate to say. However, keep using them if you like!
  5. I've seen the Oasis, yeah! So, we don't use life as a resource, so having the Garden never hurts us. Lastly, it's Threshold ability is a mid-to-long game effect for us, only if needed; without being too Mana intensive (Oasis).
  6. Selvala does not need this. There are very few Cards here we're happy to pitch and too few Artifacts & Enchantments that truly stop us, so... Why help the rest of the board from Stax pieces?
  7. I ran this for a while: never had it go off successfully.

Thank you. Glad you enjoy the list and show! It will be updated once again after M20 fully releases (and the cards are made available here). I can tell you already that there is one definite update coming to the list with Veil or Summer and potentially Shared Summons. More on that later.

Would Road of Return ever make the cut for this deck?

October 13, 2019 9:59 a.m.

hchileman

I own a copy, I tried it... Sadly, no. At least not in it's current iteration do I see Road of Return being a part of the 99.

October 13, 2019 10:10 a.m.

DragonLordJippy +1

If you want to make a better selvala, try adding Yavimaya Hollow for protection or Cavern of Souls to deal with blue. Your land count looks low, but its probably fine in this build.

EDIT: Song of the Dryads or even Kenrith's Transformation > Lignify. Yes I know you can tutor it, but song is very powerful and kenrith replaces itself

December 24, 2019 11:56 p.m. Edited.

Profet93

No one ever wastes a Counter on Selvala... Cavern of Souls is a needless addition (it was in an earlier iteration). Same goes for Yavimaya Hollow: I need Green Mana more than Generic. Selvala is generally either Bounced or Exiled. Between the two Lands, perhaps Yavimaya but we have a host of protection for her already. I assure you, this is the best Selvala list online to date. Confident in stating that. Also, Lignify > Kenrith > Song, if I need to shut down something (a Commander) in a pinch I want the ability to find it. We Draw a lot already, Kenrith is for a list without “Draw” in the Command Zone. Merrrryyyy Christmassss!

December 25, 2019 10:42 a.m.

DragonLordJippy

Why wouldn't anyone waste a counter on selvala? If thats part of almost all your winconditions, wouldn't killing it be on their radar?

How often do you find yourself being treefolk harbringer, just through the sheer amount of draw or do you use survival to tutor for harbringer to tutor for lignify?

Im sure this is a powerful selvala list, I'm only vsed a few and I like this list a lot. I'm just curious in understanding how you play it out. Happy holidays!

December 25, 2019 2:40 p.m.

i'm running primal command, fauna shaman and priest of titania on main deck and they win most of the games for me, but could you tell me why did you cut them from main deck to sideboard?

February 9, 2019 10:19 p.m.

How do you feel about trying instill energy, rhonas, woodland bellower, fierce empath and hall of gemstones?

denis1198 I have tried Instill Energy , Woodland Bellower and all the aforementioned cards, aside from Rhonas the Indomitable . Fierce Empath is a dead draw in many games and is not efficient enough to net wins: a three mana tutor is not something we need, particularly when it only fetches Great Oak Guardian (within my list). Hall of Gemstone is a strictly defensive option for a different deck. Though it's ability is nice, many players will be operating with a series of rocks to net the mana sufficient to play counter magic. Also, it's a World Enchantment; part of our win condition is using Concordant Crossroads to finish our opponents off on Turn 3. HoG will immediately be replaced. Fauna Shaman is a lesser Survival of the Fittest , which we operate with. While Shaman can be tutored for, you can see how it's counter-productive to simply obtaining the card we actually need with all of our Creature Tutors. Primal Command in many cases is an overly-expensive Tutor. The loop with it & Eternal Witness is just as unnecessary to our success as the Beast Within loop I explained here. It's what you would consider a "Win More," while we're only really looking to "Win." Priest of Titania is insurance for Selvala and strictly Plan B. She's extraneous in our deck list. Our game should be centered around using Selvala for victory. While her potential to ramp (in some deck versions) is decent, it is no substitute for Selvala. Between all of our current options for ramp, sticking with Plan A - casting & using Selvala - is always the priority and easily achievable. Dosan the Falling Leaf would be a much better consideration to fit into the deck, or Prowling Serpopard , as either of these (particularly Dosan) will help us Combo out on our turn and do so unaffected by our foes. However, even these are wanting in the list currently... I've tried about everything. Rhonas is fine, but would only act as a substitute for Wayward Swordtooth who is superior. The Swordtooth's ability to play an additional land can help us achieve the mana we need in a given turn to go off, via utilities such as Quirion Ranger & Scryb Ranger . Bouncing the Forest and being able to play them again is a larger benefit than paying three mana to net +2/+0 from Rhonas. Those synergies are more valuable to consider. Thanks for the comments/considerations!

Another alternative that comes to mind if you don't have the funds for Gaea's Cradle is Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip. It's a bit worse than Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx since it comes into play as an enchantment and it isn't fetch-able via Crop Rotation but if those are things you can live without in exchange for another big mana producing land, Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip could be an option. Keep up the good work at The 99. I've recently subscribed to you guys and I can't wait to see what's in store for the channel.
