Enchantment (1)

Artifact (1)

I pulled The Scarab God as my promo at prerelease so I have converted my zombie Tribal EDH deck that was previously led by Gisa and Geralf into a Scarab God zombie mill deck.

If you have any suggestions for the deck please comment below and +1 if you like the deck.

The Commander

In this deck the strategy is heavily based around the commander, but it is able to win even if the Scarab God isn't in play. We are looking to abuse its ability that triggers on the upkeep and its activated ability to exile creatures and create zombie tokens. This deck runs a go-wide tribal zombie strategy along with some milling effects to fuel the Scarab God and create an alternate win condition. This deck also can play like a control deck preserve its board and slowly drain out opponents.

Let's look at some important cards in each part of the strategy.

Mill

This deck wants to mill opponents, not necessarily as a way to kill them, but rather to give The Scarab God options for turning creatures into zombie tokens. The targeted mill should be concentrated on decks that run lots of creatures, especially ones with good ETBs that dimir doesn't have access to like Sun Titan, Reclamation Sage, and Selfless Spirit. Let's look at the mill cards in the deck.

Altar of the Brood - This cheap artifact mills opponents every time its controlled plays a permanent. It won't mill them to death, but it will quickly provide The Scarab God with great targets to make into zombies.

Altar of Dementia - Great defense against board wipes. It turns every zombie token into fodder that can mill 4 cards from target players library. Also a great insurance policy to prevent The Scarab God from getting hit by an enchantment like Imprisoned in the Moon or a removal spell that exiles it.

Mindcrank - Turns all life loss into mill. Another powerful artifact to keep the graveyards full. It also directly synergizes with The Scarab God's drain trigger.

Traumatize - Mills half of target player's library for the low cost of five mana. This is the only mill card that in the deck that has a one-time effect, but in this strategy it is worth it.

Consuming Aberration - Mills other players each time you cast a spell and gets bigger each time we mill opponents.

Phenax, God of Deception - It give all of our creatures the ability to mill opponents. This creature serves as an alternate win condition by enabling us to mill one or more opponents to death within a few turns.

Lich Lord of Unx - One of the most powerful zombies in the deck. It can drain and mill opponents once the zombie horde is going.

Dreamborn Muse - One of the most powerful mill creatures in the deck. Mills each player on their upkeep. It punishes other opponents who play control and have a hand full of cards. This deck actually enjoys being milled because it gives the Scarab God more targets to resurrect.

Protecting the Scarab God

One of the Scarab God's biggest strengths is keeping it from going back to the command zone when it is removed. If it goes to the graveyard from the battlefield is goes back to our hand at the beginning of the end step. This helps avoid paying the commander tax and enables that mana to be spent on other spells that further the strategy.

The main o protect the Scarab God there are five counter spells. They are only used to protect the Scarab God from getting exiled or from something else undesirable happening to it. The counter spells in the deck are Stubborn Denial, Mana Drain, Swan Song, Rewind, and Fierce Guardianship.

Another way to protect the Scarab God from being exiled or from getting enchanted is to sacrifice it. To do this, we run two free sacrifice outlets in the deck.

High Market - A land that doubles as a free sacrifice outlet and also gains 1 life.

Altar of Dementia - Sacrifices creatures to mill opponents.

Cards that Work Well with the Scarab God

Training Grounds - Reduces the cost of the Scarab God's activated ability. This is the best enchantment that we play in the deck. It enables the Scarab God's activated ability to be used two or more times per rotation.

Tree of Perdition - An amazing target for the Scarab God to make a token of. If the token survives a rotation of the table, it can put a player to 4 life at instant speed.

That is all for now. Feel free to comment with suggestions or give the deck a +1
