Aggressive Instinct

Sorcery

Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to target creature you don't control.

Deck performed decently during testing, though was unable to establish a full Infect board. Looking at removing Wall of Vines and Windstorm in favour of Aggressive Instinct and Glistener Elf

Nice deck! I had a quick look through, and you seem to have a bunch of fight cards. Normally, they'd be great, but I think for deathtouch creatures, direct damage might be even better (that way your dudes survive the exchange).

Perhaps consider replacing things like Ancient Animus , Pounce , Setessan Tactics , and Inscription of Abundance with one-sided fights like Devouring Tendrils , Nature's Way , Ram Through , Aggressive Instinct , or Rabid Bite

Hi, I am about to make my own Chevill EDH, so right now I am looking for inspiration. I like your idea with "deals damage" spells like Aggressive Instinct in new set we will get another one with instant speed Ram Through, which is nice! Did you think about adding any Vraska planeswalker?

Thanks for the comment! The reason I run straight removal over fight spells is because they don't put Chevill at risk of a trade. He's really only a 1/3 so he can't take out large creatures and survive. Of course I run as many Aggressive Instinct like cards as I can, as they work as kill spells without any risk. I'm definitely still working on the creature base of this deck. The ideal creature is something with removal built in or benefits from removal such as Polukranos, World Eater and Ob Nixilis, Unshackled. As of right now I'm at a loss of better creatures to put in. Foe-Razer Regent is cool, but I try to keep the curve low, but he's definitely on deck if I can find a spot.

Tzefick on Sword of X and Y …

Quite simple, we all know the Swords of X and Y, we all know WotC have intention of completing the cycle for all 10 color pairings. We're still missing out on 3 pieces, so lets try our hand at brewing what they should do:

We already have:

We're missing out on:

  • Selesnya

  • Dimir

  • Gruul

The general premise is that the swords give equipped creature +2/+2 and protection from the two colors that make up their identity and grants two triggered effects corresponding to their implicit color identities upon dealing combat damage to a player.

What would the remaining 3 Swords look like?

My interpretations

Sword of Unity and Prosperity

Artifact - Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from white and from green.

Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, create a Treasure token, then look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal a Creature, Aura, or Equipment card from among them and put it into your hand, and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Sword of Past and Present

Artifact - Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from blue and from black.

Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, you may exile a card from a graveyard, if you do you gain 2 life. Then target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until the beginning of your next turn. The flashback cost is equal to its mana cost plus "pay 2 life".

Sword of Rage and Serenity

Artifact - Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from red and from green.

Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, you may have equipped creature fight another target creature, then exile the top card of your library, you may play that card until end of turn.

shadow63 What card? Savage Punch ? That's a fight effect. I would say the first card I have known as one-sided fights is Crush Underfoot and a more flexible version in Soul's Fire . The first green version was Rabid Bite in Shadows over Innistrad.

Others that followed in green: Aggressive Instinct (from the global series), Ambuscade , Band Together , Clear Shot , Combo Attack , Moonlight Hunt and Nissa's Judgment .

I don't think there's a consensus on what this effect should be called.

That comment about flying makes sense, I'm not used to having such nice creature removal as green!

For board wipes, I was thinking of including something like Predatory Urge in place of one of the fight instants/sorceries. It's similar to Ulvenwald Tracker , making the fight into a per turn ability means I can save cards in my hand and be in a better position after a wipe. But with the amount of card draw in the deck, it might not be necessary/good to save too many cards

I also was wondering if Unnatural Aggression was meant to be replaced by Band Together . It's what the changelog implies, but I wanted to check.

Does it often come up that you fight using someone other than the commander where one-sided fighting cards would be better, like Aggressive Instinct or Clear Shot . Having lower cost cards as well as instants vs sorceries is better, but only if there's no advantage to one-side fighting. Commander being indestructible helps a ton, but I wanted to know if you ran into scenarios where having one-sided would have been better.

Only other card I was gonna suggest/ask you about is Triangle of War , this deck has a lot of draw, which is very nice, so being able to have one of your fight cards on the table instead of in your hand seems useful.
