Maybeboard




This is another deck I quickly made out of spare cards. Funny enough it can actually kill in turn 3/4, turn 2 with a sol ring, lol.

The overall plan is similar to how the (very) old Cadaverous Bloom combo deck worked. I think I need to explain that one because most people won't know that deck.

The key cards are:

The original combo worked with Prosperity to draw a huge amount of cards, but with The Gitrog Monster we won't need blue:

  1. Cast Natural Balance with a sac outlet for lands already on the board, in response, sac all lands, preferrably to sqandered resources. You get 5 new untapped lands, the commander would draw cards equal to the number of lands you had before that move.
  2. Take all the mana and sac the lands again one by one and draw more cards.
  3. In these new cards there should be something that brings more lands on the table so you can sac and draw again. You probably run into Regrowth or something similar that can recover Natural Balance from the graveyard
  4. With Cadaverous Bloom you can throw away unnecessary cards in your hand to generate mana, which will be eventually used to cast a huge Exsanguinate (back then it was Drain Life instead).

When going into the combo, Cadaverous Bloom isn't needed here. in fact, you don't even need it to kill in this build, because I use Ob Nixilis, the Fallen or Retreat to Hagra and kill with landfall. Or I find the 2 card combo Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond .

Thanks to the first comment on this deck I was reminded of the awesome dredge land Dakmor Salvage and it's potential in combination with a free discard outlet, such as Putrid Imp - discard the land, draw with the frog, make the draw a dredge, if you hit a land you draw a card, discard the land again until you find what you need. Ulamog prevents milling yourself so it's a guarantee to find the needed cards! With Lion's Eye Diamond in the deck I can generate infinite mana in this process too, so it's a guaranteed win, if no one can interfere then.


The weakness of such a deck is obviously that someone might kill the commander or counter an essential spell during the combo turn. Therefore I have added Choke to hinder especially blue players. Nature's Claim, Reclamation Sage, Manglehorn and Abrupt Decay are necessary artifact/enchantment removal to get rid of Leyline of the Void, Rest in Peace and other things that could disable my strategy. I also use Chain of Smog and Delirium Skeins to cheaply empty the hands because I have no problem with discarding.
