Maybeboard

I hated Boros so much as a commander combination, because it was so lacking in card draw, ramp, and a good general that didn't just say "Attack people, blah blah double strike or indestructible." I figured that it probably wasn't ALL bad, so I decided to take the plunge and make a Boros deck that was as cool and interesting as possible. First I had to find a general that stood out to me, and luckily Avacyn was basically the only one that seemed interesting, and by a mile too. There's a ton of different ways to build this general! I went with a mostly Human-based thematic deck that represents what it was like on Innistrad when the angels were going insane and Emrakul, the Promised Spaghetti, was slowly taking over. This deck is going for flavor points, so you'll see classic gems like Magnifying Glass instead of playable staples like Burnished Hart, and notice exclusions such as Basilisk Collar (There aren't basilisks on Innistrad, if anyone can prove me wrong feel free) and Eldrazi Displacer (Kozilek's Eldrazi and not Emrakul's). There is a pretty strong graveyard theme as well, which is unusual for Boros decks. I think it helps mitigate the weak nature of Boros as a color combination though, and lets you gain value through means other than card draw. Below I'll be going over my favorite synergies and combos for the deck!

My Favorite Interactions

Bruna, the Fading Light + Gisela, the Broken Blade = Brisela, Voice of Nightmares

Hanweir Battlements + Hanweir Garrison = Hanweir, the Writhing Township

This deck plays a lot of discard outlets, so it's pretty easy to ditch the underwhelming Gisela, the Broken Blade into your graveyard early on and then use Bruna, the Fading Light to get her back later for a huge, disturbing, and flavorful Eldrazi threat. The Hanweir meld creature is a little tougher to get online, but easier to smash with since you can set it up so that you can attack the same turn you meld it together, possibly with a Waves of Aggression effect for maximum spaghetti aggro.

Anger in your graveyard + Scroll Rack + Entreat the Angels

Anger in your graveyard + Angel of Glory's Rise

You don't NEED Scroll Rack for this janky combo, but it makes hitting a miracle super easy if you draw it. What's cooler than dropping 40 power's worth of angry 4/4 flying angels and then smashing face with them? Just about nothing, that's what. Anger is one of the better cards in this deck, and one you look to pitch from your hand often. He plays very well with Angel of Glory's Rise too, and makes your deck a turn faster when you explode with a horde of Humans or tokens.

Angel of Glory's Rise + Fiend Hunter + Altar of Dementia

This combo is dirty. It starts with Angel of Glory's Rise (Karmic Guide works too) reanimating your Fiend Hunter, which exiles the angel upon entering the battlefield. Then sacrifice the Fiend Hunter (and any other humans laying around) to mill someone, which lets your angel come back to reanimate everything, putting you right back where you started! If you can't mill them due to a pesky Kozilek, Butcher of Truth or something in their deck, simply add a human like Kessig Malcontents or Rage Thrower into the mix to deal infinite damage.

Archangel Avacyn + Blasphemous Act or Day of Judgment

This might seem obvious, but it's still worth mentioning because of how sweet it is. You simply cast Avacyn on your first main phase and follow her up with a cheap sweeper to destroy everything outside of your flavor bubble! Then you can purify your opponents as you see fit.

More to come!
