Blind Hunter

Creature — Bat

Flying

Haunt (When this creature dies, exile it haunting target creature.)

When Blind Hunter enters the battlefield or the creature it haunts dies, target player loses 2 life and you gain 2 life. (Dying is being put into the graveyard from the battlefield. Tokens enter the graveyard before they cease to exist.)

FalconForce on Nightmare Shepherd exile interaction mechanics

I know that Nightmare Shepherd 's triggered ability happens when the affected creature enters the graveyard and then you can exile that card. Also when multiple exile effects trigger simultaneously you can pick the resolution order.

Because of that I believe that Whip of Erebos 's triggered ability doesn't work with it because it goes directly into exile instead of anywhere else when it dies. But Diabolic Servitude would work because the creature actually enters the graveyard before it's exile triggers. Let me know if I'm wrong.

But how does it interact with the haunt mechanic? Is 'haunting' only a delayed trigger that doesn't require the card? Could you haunt the Shepherd and make a token or is it an either/or? Blind Hunter as an example.

Or what if the exiled card would be brought back by another effect? I'll use sacrificing the creature to Rescue from the Underworld as an example. I looked at the 3rd and 4th rulings on it and I think they might mean that if the card is exiled face up or goes to the command zone instead of the graveyard it'll get returned, but if it hits the graveyard before going to one of those places then it'll be treated as a new object.

So, if I understood that correctly, why does the delayed trigger track the card when it changes to a new zone the first time but not the second? Or does the trigger only work because the creature was sacrificed as a cost and it's therefore already in whatever zone it goes to before the delayed trigger is applied to it?

Hey man I like the idea behind the deck. I follow pauper deck building pretty closely myself and can offer a few suggestions.

Blind Hunter

Vault Skirge

Lone Missionary

Night's Whisper

Apostle's Blessing

Those are some good value cards, and nights whisper will give you some much needed card draw. Apostles blessing will give you some much needed artifact protection as well. Another thing I should mention is that removal like stab wound or pillory might be a bit too slow for the format, and maybe grabbing some instant speed kill spell like doomblade would help.I'd recommend posting the link to the pauper reddit and getting some feedback there as many people are often willing to help, and of course there's the forums here.If you maybe want to try a deck that's similar to yours but certainly competitive so you can feel out the format I'd recommend looking up the tireless tribe deck and seeing if it's to your liking.Best of luck!

How do you plan on casting Blind Hunter without any white mana?

anything with extort that's at least a little good. Basilica Screecher, Kingpin's Pet, Treasury Thrull, Thrull Parasite or Pontiff of Blight

Battlegrace Angel possibly not good enough

Blood Artist or Falkenrath Noble

Bloodbond Vampire for a back up karlov. this is iffy

Chant of Vitu-Ghazi, remember to block then tap for convoke.

Contemplation, combo off!

Disciple of Griselbrand, or Disciple of Bolas let you convert a big karlov to something else

Honor the Fallen - on theme graveyard hate that's also a combat trick

Mastery of the Unseen this needs a lot of mana to be great, but maybe you'll get some good use out of it. It's kinda iffy though

Patron of the Kitsune and Righteous Cause are VIP's with karlov

Resplendent Mentor this could be an all star if you go heavy white

Royal Herbalist combat tricks for karlov

Soldier of the Pantheon

Suture Priest

Vampiric Rites

Vizkopa Confessor

Wingmate Roc

Exsanguinate is good

Well of Lost Dreams and Alhammarret's Archive are nifty but expensive on the $budget$

Use all the life you gain for benefits, like card draw! Ambition's Cost, Ancient Craving, Graveborn Muse, Night's Whisper, Ob Nixilis Reignited, Phyrexian Arena, Read the Bones, Dark Tutelage, Underworld Connections

or recursion Phyrexian Reclamation

budget cuts might include, Ajani Goldmane, Lightning Greaves (this might be Swiftfoot Boots), Angelic Chorus

Some possible cuts

Rupture Spire, Shimmering Grotto, Transguild Promenade - two color decks don't need to slow down this much for mana fixing

Sacred Cat dosen't seem strong enough for commander

Bond of Agony seems bad, maybe Exsanguinate

Orzhov Charm What mode are you adding this for?

Doom Blade could be Go for the Throat if your meta/budget allows for it

Darksteel Ingot, Orzhov Cluestone, Orzhov Keyrune could be cut for a 2 mana rock, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, Star Compass. Maybe one of those

Blind Hunter, Blood Tithe, Agent of Masks, Certain Death don't seem strong enough

Why are you thinking about removing the Hellkite? Is it the high CMC?

Other lower CMC options that do similar things include the following: Gibbering Fiend, Keldon Marauders, Impact Tremors, Forgeborn Oreads, Keldon Champion, Foundry Champion, Blind Hunter, Bloodhunter Bat, Dakmor Ghoul, Grim Guardian, Pierce Strider, Purphoros, God of the Forge, and Outpost Siege. Personally, I think Gibbering Fiend and Keldon Marauders are the best. They're super low CMC, so you can play them much earlier in the game and start pinging the opponent for more damage sooner.

Invader Parasite is another option, if you don't mind not having any friends. Just make sure you don't accidentally exile all of your own lands, too.

This is the first deck in version 2.0. I first removed from the generic pool of guild cards the worst in a multiplayer environment: Dutiful Thrull, Mourning Thrull, Syndicate Enforcer, Blind Hunter, Beckon Apparition, Cry of Contrition, Conjurer's Ban, Purge the Profane, Shadow Lance, Gift of Orzhova and Moratorium Stone were simply too weak; Sin Collector and Castigate are great in 1v1, but not very much here. And I'm still dubious about Alms Beast. Then I tryed to improve the deck adding Droning Bureaucrats, Loxodon Gatekeeper, Sandsower, Spelltithe Enforcer, Ghosts of the Innocent Faith's Fetters and Sphere of Safety to slow down the opponents and take time to build a stable board so is possible to take advantage of all the life drain the deck offer. Then Moonlight Bargain and Underworld Connections for card draw, and finally some bombs: Skeletal Vampire, Angel of Serenity, Luminate Primordial, Sepulchral Primordial and Grave Betrayal. The deck now perform as a strong wall against enemies, stopping them while slowly draining their life.

Also, no Pestilence? Common reusable boardwipe that can soft-lock with Guardian of the Guildpact? Guardian isn't even in the list either. Sees play in a lot of white sideboards because of the lack of multicolored playable cards. No Patrician's Scorn for the sideboard? No Blind Hunter, Mana Tithe, Pillory of the Sleepless, Faith's Fetters?

Ok, so from what I understand you want to buff your creatures when you gain life. I'll start with what I think you should cut and why for a few cards.

Zulaport Cutthroat doesn't really fit the theme. Yes he gains you life but only under a certain circumstance.

Gonti, Lord of Luxury does not really benefit your drain gain method.

Blind Hunter can be replaced by Cliffhaven Vampire he's more consistent and efficient and would do a lot more life loss than the hunter ever would.

I would add more in Ajani's Pridemate and maybe even add Vampire Nighthawk which goes nicely with Aerial Responder.

It looks like it's coming together nicely but like you said it's all over the place. I would sit down and really think about what exactly you want this deck to do. If you want more help or suggestions just hit me up! Also check out my deck for done ideas Got the life!
