Maybeboard

A take on Brion that focuses more on recursion and later-game board state than stealing creatures from other players.

One of the tricks with Brion is not running out of ammo, so we have some draw options. We really don't want to wipe the board if we don't have to; if there isn't anything to steal, some of the cards in this deck won't do anything (which also makes them safe to discard). There is a lot of recursion built in to make sure this deck doesn't run out of gas.

Another thing to remember is we don't have to fling stuff when we steal it. This deck has a high mana curve in that we want pretty tough creatures on our side so if we do run out of theft options, we can still be happy to swing. A few options here (Wurmcoil Engine, Atsushi, the Blazing Sky and Threefold Thunderhulk) are included to combo off with Ashnods alter and Nim Deathmantle for a big/infinite payoff. Also worth noting if we pump stuff, we can swing with it first, then fling it to double down.

Finally, our curve is heavy. We need ramp and at least something on the board by the time Brion is out. It will cost at least 3 mana to steal something and 1 more mana to yeet it so we need that mana available. We also need something else on our side of the board in the meantime. Lots of rocks are here and Treasure Nabber and Cursed Mirror help out. Faster flexible lands that don't come in tapped are likely better if budget is not a barrier.

It might be worth dropping the single-creature theft cards in favor of either large hauls like Mob Rule or simply something that Sunforger can tutor up when you need it on the spot. I would lean towards an effect like Insurrection as it would feel pretty bad dropping a creature for 7 mana then having it removed on the spot; the late-game payoff has to be pretty impactful right away.

Some non-budget options are listed in the Maybe board, but at the time of writing this deck runs pretty well for around $100.
