Knight of Obligation

Creature — Human Knight

Vigilance Extort (Whenever you cast a spell, you may pay {W/B}. If you do, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life.)

Thanks for the suggestions NV_1980, but I'm less concerned with gaining life in general and more so focused on gaining life solely on your own turn to power up the main wincon: Sorin, Ravenous Neonate  Flip's -1. As such, cards like Kambal, Consul of Allocation and Sunscorch Regent are often far less important since they tend to grant life on your opponent's turns. This can potentially be good with cards like The Gaffer but doesn't do much for Sorin. I did want to add Kingpin's Pet and maybe Knight of Obligation too but I'm not sure what to remove.

Ah, what is there to dislike about life gain? The deck looks sweet, however, I do have some suggestions.

Whilst Exstort is a lovely mechanic, I feel as if many of these creatures are lacking. Basilica Guards, Kingpin's Pet, Knight of Obligation, Thrull Parasite, and Syndicate Enforcer all just have egregious stats. Similarly, Resplendent Mentor is a five Mana 2/2 that doesn't do something immediately unless you have a board state.

Armillary Sphere doesn't do much. You probably prefer to cast your commander than paying four and finding two basics.

Endless Scream is far too much Mana for what it does in my opinion. Same with Howl from Beyond.

Linden, the Steadfast Queen just seems awesome in here, as does Shadowspear and Loxodon Warhammer. Ivory Tower and Revenge of Ravens could be interesting.

You have quite a bit of creature based removal, thus you may wish for dealing with other permanents. Despark, Generous Gift, and Disenchant are all great.

That's all from me. Good luck!

Knight of Obligation is one of my favourite arts in MTG, kinda sad it's not good enough for the list.

I would put 1x Treasury Thrull to have a biggie and regain dead stuff.

Also, no Blind Obedience? The commander version is cheap~

Dark Tutelage and Marchesa's Decree are cheap card draw, especially considering how much lifelink you have, and Phyrexian Arena would be nearly necessary as well. Phyrexian Reclamation would be an upgrade to tortured existence. Campaign of Vengeance and extort sources like Knight of Obligation and Blind Obedience would be great to attack their life by recasting you creatures. With Athreos at the helm, you could add up to 10 board wipes as they really don't affect you.

I have a cleric based athreos deck that's all about extort, board wipes, and cheap CMC.

Hexproof seems strong in this format, so for tribals, I could easily see Drogskol Captain being a house, even though zombies have always been my favorite underpowered tribe, which makes playing Diregraf Captain tempting in itself, or white human/spirit tokens under Phantom General since white is full of anthem battle buffs. Heck, even Chief of the Edge seems fun!

I think the 5-CMC limit is just a house rule to increase the difficulty of the challenge.

I just can't envision Bloodbraid Elf as a powerful general. Cascade is a chaotic (read: unpredictable, unreliable and inconsistent) mechanic. I could see it in blue, where you could gain value off it by cascading into a draw spell, but in G/R I can't see any amazing plays that aren't based on luck?

I'm thinking of going Naya under Naya Battlemage if multicolored, or Woodborn Behemoth (who wouldn't want an 8/8 trampler for a pauper commander?) if I choose monocolor.

Although, without having tested the meta and some decks, without Sorin Markov to drop life totals to 10, or threats like Craterhoof Behemoth to Overrun people, I feel like lifegain would be a strong strategy, whether directly through lifelink (Seeker of the Way), extort (Knight of Obligation), or triggered (Nyx-Fleece Ram. Is lifegain really significant in the format?

Knight of Obligation can not be played in your deck because of the black mana symbol
