How has Dolmen Gate been playing for you? Specifically, does your meta have a lot of fliers? On the one hand, if they don't have a lot of fliers, given your commander and pretty much all your creatures have flying, is gate necessary? And if they do have a lot of fliers, how impactful is mudslide? Similar question for Bedlam.

Props for running Armageddon and Rebuff the wicked! At the risk of sounding like a broken record, given your deck is commander reliant, Deflecting Swat? Or perhaps even a Flawless Maneuver? Mithril Coat is also a good protection option that is reputable and easy to cast.

Have you thought of potentially swapping out Footfall Crater for Hall of the Bandit Lord? While hall can't be used the same turn, and does cost life, it is a haste outlet that is less likely to get you 2 for 1ed, and it takes a land slot, freeing another slot for whatever you need, probably draw. Unless you don't focus too much on draw given you're game plan is just to destroy them quick and easy with overwhelming cheating into play advantage.

How has Insidious Dreams been and what to do you tutor for? I've personally never liked it given that discard is additional cost to cast and you don't even get them into your hand. Especially given this is a combo deck and you are already low on draw, what exactly is the gameplan with it? Perhaps I'm missing something?

Thoughts on swapping out Strionic resonator for Isshin, Two Heavens as One? Resonator costs less, is less likely to be removed, and is easier to cast but requires you to have mana open. Isshin costs more mana, is harder to cast and easier to remove but doesn't require additional mana.

Mother of Runes - Protection

While I adore expedition map, have you thought of swapping it out for another ramp piece? You have about 5 pieces of ramp. Swapping map for Mind Stone or another 2cmc ramp spell can help you bring your commander out earlier. Of course mind stone's draw is nice too.

I'm sure you've went through most of these suggestions as you originally made the deck given your expertise in EDH but I would love to rack your brain regarding your thought process. Let me know what you think

Cabal Stronghold/Cabal Coffers - Former budget, latter not. Big black mana producing lands. Contamination does shut them off though. Should that be an issue, note Infernal Darkness as a potential alternative.

Crypt of Agadeem - Ramp

Bojuka Bog - Personally, not a huge fan of tapped lands. But with fetches, you can use at instant speed. Not needed but worth considering depending on amount of GY decks in the meta.

Shizo, Death's Storehouse > Rogue's passage - Once budget opens, this is an upgrade. Not needed but worth considering.

Contamination - Sacrifice synergy. High synergy with bitterblossom, reassembling skeleton and any other creature that can return to field.

Syphon Mind > Dark Tutelage - While you have a relatively low avg cmc of 3.00, black has better draw that doesn't hurt you as badly. Not to mention it's steady draw, which can be good, but sometimes burst draw is preferred. Syphon mind is draw 3, each opponent discard 1. Budget friendly too.

Skullclamp - Speaking of draw, this goes well with all your sac synergies.

Murderous Rider > Murder - Can hit Walkers, is versatile as a creature with lifelink that can recoup your lifeloss. Almost a strict upgrade.

Feed the Swarm - Removal that hits enchantments. Black has difficult with artifacts and enchantments. I can provide you with some potential artifact removal should you wish depending on your meta. But this might be worth considering given that a Rest in Peace can mess u up.

Maybe Corpse Dance - With your sac outlets, you can ignore the negative aspect of the card. Also do note that after a wipe, you can choose the order in which your creatures enter the GY if they go together simultaneously.

Dark Ritual - Simple ritual ramp

Mind Stone - Ramp when you need it, draw when you don't.

Oubliette - Commander hate

At the risk of being too risky and pricey, Hatred - Do note life loss is additional cost to cast but it can be fun with use with your commander, either with it's ability or commander damage. Not to mention the political aspect of using it on your opponents attacking each other (Bonus points if you use it on their commander).

Cut Voltaic Key - There are only like 4 rocks that go positive with it, you don't get much value of out it.

Cut Gravestorm - Nice repetitive draw but often times player's gy's are filled and this won't help mid-late game.

Cut Soul Stair Expedition and Epicure of Blood - There are much better cards to add

Cut Lotus Field + Lotus Vale - Anti synergy to coffers, one of the lotuses can be strip mined against. No synergy benefit for the deck. Swap them with either a Deserted Temple, Thespian's Stage, or more swamps. Should you wish, including a fetchland or 2 is a nice instant speed way to bring out bojuka bog. Moreover, Urborg allows you to keep your lands as swamps and then shuffle the deck with top should you not like your upcoming draws

Introduction to Annihilation - I know you need artifact/enchantment removal. Add in a Feed the Swarm and/or a Karn Liberated if it's really given you issues.

Bolas's Citadel + Aetherflux Reservoir + Sensei's Divining Top = Good times!

Some lower costed ramp to get your commander out more quickly such as Dark Ritual and Mind Stone are helpful

Imp's Mischief - "Counter" counterspells while redirecting targeted removal, draw and extra turns! Given your deck is commander reliant + Your lich enchantment, this can serve you very well.

I personally like to run 37, but everyone is different. It really depends on your avg cmc, amount of ramp you have, wincon, etc.... For your deck, I would see how your current 34 lands hold up. If you find yourself needing more, bump it up to 36-37. Regardless, you definitely need some more ramp. Jet Medallion, Arcane Signet (perhaps over or in additional to charcoal diamond), Mind Stone and maybe even a Hedron Archive.

For lands I recommend cutting Hive and westvale for Deserted Temple to untap coffers and Thespian's Stage to copy it or another utility land. Perhaps add in a Crypt of Agadeem. An Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth while unnecessary, is helpful. Albeit, it does provide symmetry to bublicking muck.

While a bit niche and unnecessary, if your playgroup is okay with combos, a Rings of Brighthearth is helpful. It allows double commander activations as well as some of your other creatures. Not to mention Rings + coffers + temple + swamps (urborg to make u need less swamps) =

I would add like 1-4 more removal cards personally depending on how much interaction you want in the deck. You might want to add another board wipe (or 2). All is Dust hits enchantments but not artifacts while Oblivion Stone hits everything. A rest in peace could be difficult for your deck to deal with and I don't see you running anything to deal with that. Perhaps a Feed the Swarm?

First try out your deck and see what you are lacking, either before or after my suggestions. Hope this helps, let me know what you think of each suggestion.

Cabal Coffers or budget version Cabal Stronghold are great for ramp. Deserted Temple to untap it and Thespian's Stage to copy it (or another utility land). Cut Mortuary Mire and Grasping Dunes as they are not impactful. Maybe add a fetchland or 2 simply for witches cottage should you wish.

Maybe an Erebos's Intervention for removal/flexibility?

Depending on how rude you want to be, an Infernal Darkness is solid to stall for a turn or 2, not to mention counter bait. Dealing with mana dorks to circumvent is easy, although their mana rocks can still get around this. A Contamination could also work as it is synergetic with your reassembling skeleton. Adding a Bitterblossom for redundancy as well as token production which can help you draw cards from your -1/-1 effects.

Jet Medallion is solid for ramp. Mind Stone is ramp that brings your commander out a turn sooner or draw when you don't need it. Dino DNA and maybe Nightmare Lash can be cut.

What is your wincon?

Hi there, I saw your comment on the feed and thought I'd offer some suggestions on potential cuts. Some thoughts from looking over your deck:

  • First off, I think it's great that you have something like Insurrection as a top end finisher. Having played against some goad decks in my play groups ( mostly Kardur, Doomscourge), they can have trouble closing out games.

  • Your 4 drop slot seems pretty crowded and I think where you could focus some of your cuts. I think some of the cuts can eventually get turned into a couple more 2cmc rocks to help you ramp. If anything, you could probably swap 2-3 of your land slots for a couple more rocks like Talisman of Conviction, Boros Signet, Mind Stone, and maybe Cursed Mirror to copy a valuable creature.

  • Speaking of lands, I think if you stay heavy on the Enchantments, it'd be worth it to run Hall of Heliod's Generosity and maybe a few other utility lands like War Room, Minas Tirith, Scavenger Grounds, and Volatile Fault. Land destruction beyond Generous Gift/Beast Within isn't super common in most play groups. You could probably swap a few of your basics for some of these.

  • Goblin Diplomats might be more trouble than its worth, since your opponents can still attack you. This could maybe get swapped with Grenzo, Havoc Raiser

  • I think Fumiko can be a potential cut, mostly because she forces your opponents to attack, but not necessarily to attack each other like Goad might.

  • Firemane Commando as a removal option seems kinda clunky. You could maybe swap her for something like Soul Partition, which can be a protective effect or removal.

  • Mangara might be a potential cut, but I think this is more of a meta dependent call. I played him in a really early iteration of my Isshin deck, and oftentimes my opponents would remove him or play around his abilities by sending their 1 biggest and/or most evasive creature at me.

  • You can maybe swap Agitator Ant with Nils, Discipline Enforcer, since you have control over the counter distribution, and he also punishes the utilization of any counters on your opponents' creatures.

  • Assemble the Legion could be a potential cut, as it seems kinda slow for the payoff.

If you're interested, I theory-crafted a Nelly Borca deck that is trying to do what you want to do with this deck. I doubt I'll ever put it together, but it could be helpful to compare notes with. We definitely have some core similarities, but I think I lean a bit more into aggro elements for the deck to fall back to as a finisher, or if the Goad options aren't online. Check out The Slander Commander if you'd like.

Thanks for all your suggesitons Profet93! I had Cabal Stronghold in another monoblack deck that's quite budget friendly, so I figured I'd try it out in here to see if it works instead of just sitting on the card.

I'm kind of surprised I don't have a Mind Stone in here lol. Maybe I'll try swapping it out for Arcane Signet because that added draw is very nice.

I mainly play 1v1 or at most a three person game since my playgroup is stretched thin and hard to get people, so while I initially had Syphon Mind when making the deck, it didn't feel that efficient since it never gets full 4 person value.

Lili is another one from the now budget deck that is more of a personal favorite card as its the first card I ever opened in a draft. It's probably not ideal aside from deck thinning. And I've never been big on Opposition Agent personally. I've been on the other end of it too many times and is more of a feels bad kind of card.

The current group I play with house ruled no The One Ring after our friend abused it in every single deck of his. It would be a house in this, but I'd rather keep the group happy and save myself 70 bucks that can go towards this foiling out project. I do have a friend that has a Beseech the Mirror for trades, so I can see about trying that if he's still got it!
