Beseech the Mirror

Sorcery

Bargain (You may sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as you cast this spell.)

Search your library for a card, exile it face down, then shuffle your library. If this spell was bargained, you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost if that spell's converted mana cost/mana value is 4 or less. Put the exiled card into your hand if it wasn't cast this way.

Thanks for all your suggesitons Profet93! I had Cabal Stronghold in another monoblack deck that's quite budget friendly, so I figured I'd try it out in here to see if it works instead of just sitting on the card.

I'm kind of surprised I don't have a Mind Stone in here lol. Maybe I'll try swapping it out for Arcane Signet because that added draw is very nice.

I mainly play 1v1 or at most a three person game since my playgroup is stretched thin and hard to get people, so while I initially had Syphon Mind when making the deck, it didn't feel that efficient since it never gets full 4 person value.

Lili is another one from the now budget deck that is more of a personal favorite card as its the first card I ever opened in a draft. It's probably not ideal aside from deck thinning. And I've never been big on Opposition Agent personally. I've been on the other end of it too many times and is more of a feels bad kind of card.

The current group I play with house ruled no The One Ring after our friend abused it in every single deck of his. It would be a house in this, but I'd rather keep the group happy and save myself 70 bucks that can go towards this foiling out project. I do have a friend that has a Beseech the Mirror for trades, so I can see about trying that if he's still got it!

You don't have enough basics to reliably activate cabal stronghold. Perhaps swap it with Deserted Temple to untap coffers + politics or Thespian's Stage/Vesuva to copy coffer or other utility lands.

Mind Stone - Help ramp commander out on turn 3, and it is draw later when you don't need it.

MAYBE Syphon Mind - You draw 3, each opponent discards one.

Have you thought of swapping out Lili PW? Her +1 isn't impactful as with all your draw you're bound to get a swamp. Her second ability serves as okay removal. Perhaps for an Opposition Agent could prove more impactful given everyone searches in EDH. Whether its omni, creature or instant/sorcery tutors, or even fetchlands.

At the risk of being out of budget The One Ring might be a potential inclusion given it's a steady draw source and all your lifegain could mitigate it's downside. Maybe even a Beseech the Mirror to allow you to sacrifice it or just tutor in case you can't find what you're looking for with your draw.

sergiodelrio I'm also avoiding loose and vague hubs names. They get used incorrectly or are broad to the point of all-inclusive.

Vague hub names have caused problems in the past. One hub in particular (Team America, now inactive) was being used for the wrong decks entirely. It's a Legacy tempo shell from 2008-2009, but was being treated as a synonym for any Jeskai deck, which is about as far away from the intended definition as you can get. I understand the source of the confusion, but a confusing hub is not a good hub, in my opinion. If it can't be understood at a glance, it's going to get reworked.

"Reduced variance" or "low variance" also already exists, kind of, as the "competitive" hub. The whole intent of competitive decks is to reduce variance as much as possible, so that the deck is as streamlined and consistent as possible. This is achieved through tutors, redundancy, deck manipulation, using playsets of cards, and so on. So what would be the criteria for inclusion in a "low variance" hub? I expect that a "low variance" hub would be highly subjective, used for any deck that its creator thinks is unusually consistent, whether or not it actually is.

I have also declined to put in a real tutor hub so far for similar reasons. How many tutors do you need to have to be a "tutor" deck? Is four enough, with Imperial Seal, Vampiric Tutor, Diabolic Tutor, and Diabolic Intent? What about Eladamri's Call, Green Sun's Zenith, Natural Order, Buried Alive, Terramorphic Expanse, Misty Rainforest, Mystical Tutor... What would be a short and solid description of a "tutor" deck? "A deck that regularly searches its library" would include landfall decks, almost every competitive EDH deck, "silver bullet" decks, and hatebear decks, all of which already have their own hub, and probably more. "A deck with seven or more card that search its owner's library" is arbitrary, as is any other number for inclusion. "A deck that regularly searches its library for specific cards that help it advance its win condition"--nah, I'm going to search for this useless card that doesn't help me at all.

Incidentally, "scry" is already available as a hub in the keyword/subtype checklist.

If a hub includes a $300 Dragon's Approach Pioneer deck, a $80 Elrond, Master of Healing casual Commander deck, and a $50,000 Vintage Beseech the Mirror deck, that hub becomes even broader than the aggro/combo/control archetypes, and as such becomes almost meaningless. I've added Dragon's Approach, Rat Colony, and Shadowborn Apostle to the short list for consideration, so they might be coming soon; I didn't see as many decks or as much diversity for Persistent Petitioners. And don't worry about a long post, as long as it's meaningful. It shows the idea has people willing to defend it and fight for it, which makes it more likely to be included one way or another.

Neat deck. Seems like a Daretti, Scrap Savant/Goblin Welder package would fit will without costing too many cards. I love Kuldotha Forgemaster in these style decks, I might also run a card like Spine of Ish Sah or Brittle Effigy over Lux Cannon, the cannon seems a bit slow and unreliable without running a tom of charge enablers. O-Stone seems like a must to me too. Metalworker and Krark-Clan Ironworks are great mana sources you are missing too. Beseech the Mirror is another I thought of but may be too mana intensive with 3 black pips. Good luck with the build!

Hey man! You're gonna need a higher density of card draw, ramp and tutors if you want this bad boy to he more consistent, there's no way around it. Fortunately you're in , so that's no big deal. I'd recommend the following options:

Tutors: Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent, Grim Tutor, Beseech the Mirror, Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor, Solve the Equation, Fabricate Spellseeker, Merchant Scroll & Lim-Dul's Vault.

Draw: Talion, the Kindly Lord, Necropotence, Black Market Connections, Dark Confidant, Dark Tutelage, Night's Whisper & Ad Nauseam (if you can lower your mana curve).

Ramp: Talisman of Dominance, Dimir Signet, Fellwar Stone, Springleaf Drum, Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, Culling the Weak, Bubbling Muck & High Tide. Maybe Rain of Filth.

Other synergistic value: Praetor's Grasp, Bribery, Acquire, Entomb, Reanimate & Mnemonic Betrayal.

Other than that I'd probably say add more cheap counterspells and instant speed removal so you can control the board and bolster your own. Let me know if you need help with cuts, I'm seeing a lot of them.

Quickspell on Bauchgefühl: How much would Sheoldred …

„Bauchgefühl“ is German and means what your gut says. Obviously prices cannot be predicted, but I wonder:

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse is at 80€ in Europe now. That’s about 86$. She is relevant not only in Standard, but even in Modern Beseech the Mirror will now be able to fetch her.

The Phyrexians are gone for now. She won’t fit in any near future set thematically, so no Standard reprint. There is The List slot, but I doubt it is relevant to the price. She might be reprinted in a Secret Lair, that would probably be good value. But most likely she would be reprinted in a Masters Set.

There is no mention on about an upcoming Masters Set, though.

So what are your thoughts on how likely Sheoldred, the Apocalypse will in fall in price anytime soon?

Rune0809 What about them? I have been looking at them and as it stands currently the only card I'd really want to add would be Beseech the Mirror (if I add The One Ring) and possibly Court of Locthwain. The other new cards are either too slow like in the case of Jaya's Phoenix or need a a more major rework to the deck like the new Chandra. None of the other newer cards are quite at the level I want this list to be at.
