Beseech the Mirror

Sorcery

Bargain (You may sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as you cast this spell.)

Search your library for a card, exile it face down, then shuffle your library. If this spell was bargained, you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost if that spell's converted mana cost/mana value is 4 or less. Put the exiled card into your hand if it wasn't cast this way.

I would say to add necro or ad naus, not both. But try it and see how it goes, just be mindful of your life total as you have no way to recoup it from what I can see. That means you need to go deeper into combos or aggro to win through the life loss. Imp's mischief is criminally underutilized and is really useful to protect your commander/combo pieces. Its a pet card of mine so I am biased, but its so versatile and being able to bluff with 2 mana makes you feel like the blue player!

I actually like suggestion DarkKiridon provided - Also side note, your username means something really funny in my language.

Plumb the forbidden can be used in respond to removal at instant speed, which offsets losing the creature since it was gonna die anyways. Applying this logic, this can be used in response to a boardwipe. This is extremely useful as one downside of your deck is over-extendeding and then not having draw to regroup. Personally, I'm not a fan of the card but for this deck, I find it potentially immensely helpful. Lifegain on the side is nice as well.

Ratcatcher - It's cool, but costs 6 mana and doesn't give you the card immediately, you just hope it survives at your upkeep to give you rats. Might as well just put in another omni tutor such as Grim Tutor, Insatiable Avarice, Beseech the Queen or Beseech the Mirror. Beseech the mirror is especially useful for getting rid of The One Ring or Necropotence.

Mirkwood Bats - While I understand the combo with Plague of Vermin + the potential for token generation during winmore scenarios, Bats is useless on it's own. If you're looking to make this more competitive, I would remove him as well as ratcatcher in place of more draw, ramp or even utility (Ex: Imp's mischief). If you really wanted a combo piece, aetherflux sits at the same CMC and is harder to remove.

It appears like I'm pushing you towards that combo, because I sort of am, as you wanted suggestions for a more competitive build. Keep Plague of Vermin for the fun and actual use. But especially with adding ad naus, you _really _want to cut down on the amount of higher CMC cards in the deck that aren't worth their spot.

Would love your thoughts on potentially swapping out Cabal Stronghold for Shizo Death Storehouse.

DemonDragonJ on How Can Tutor Effects Remain …

In these two posts, Mark Rosewater stated that WotC is very careful about printing tutor effects, as such cards decrease variance in gameplay, and I understand his perspective, on that matter, but tutors have been a part of the game from its very beginning, so I believe that it would be wrong to stop printing them, and I would like to see tutors with creative effects that require the players to use them strategically, such as Beseech the Mirror or Grim Servant, both of which require proper deckbuilding to be used to their fullest potential.

What does everyone else say, about this subject? How can tutor effects remain interesting and not too powerful? I certainly am interested to hear your thoughts, on this matter.

Thank you for the suggestion to include white for Enlightened Tutor, jethstriker. I think I will playtest the deck a few times with Beseech the Mirror and will include white if I realize that it is too slow. Do you think Urza's Saga is absolutely necessary in today‘s Legacy format?

DreadKhan Thanks a Lot for your Feedback! In Commander and Casual Games, Transmute is my absolute favorite ability to bring my janky combo pieces together haha.

In this case, I fully agree with you that the unbanned tutors are not that great. However, I think Beseech the Mirror could have a place in that Artefakt based deck.

As for the Option to use mass Removals against creature Heavy Decks: I initially decided to play Ensnaring Bridge over mass relovals because I thought it would fit into the overall artefact based approach of that deck and would synergize well with Urza's Saga. Now I have realized that I would restrict myself because an empty hand with a huge construct and the Bridge would be awful for me haha.

Regarding Liliana's Caress and Quest for the Nihil Stone: would it be not better to play Shrieking Affliction instead?

Given your deck is commander reliant, some more card draw such as Syphon Mind might be worth considering.

Beseech the Mirror might be worth it only for The One Ring as I don't see anyway to sacrifice it, unless your lifegain is there to mitigate it.

An Imp's Mischief which I see is in your mayeboard should not be overlooked as it can "Counter" counterspells while redirecting targeted removal, draw and extra turns. Allows you to bluff like the blue player for just 2 mana.

Regarding artifact/enchantment removal, it's hard to find good targeted removal aside from Ugin, the Ineffable. I suggest putting in a wipe such as All is Dust, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon or even an Oblivion Stone. You have a lot of cards in the -X/-X category. Perhaps swapping out one of 2 of those a wipe which can target artifacts might be to your benefit.

Beseech the Mirror and Beseech the Queenfoil are additional tutors that might interest you to help you with consistency. More card draw in the form of Syphon Mind and Read the Bones are useful as well to maintain gas and help you get what you need. Dead of Winter might fit well for this deck as another wipe given your snow lands.

Regarding non-creature based decks, what is your meta looking like in terms of that? Is it a lot of blue players? If so, some hand hate in the form of Mind Twist (note, it says random!) as counterbait or Thought Distortion for something as a silver bullet.

Given your commander deck is heavily based on your commander, you should find additional ways to protect it. Whether it's something simple like lightning greaves or swiftfoot boots, or something more generally helpful such as Necropotence to give you additional draw to help with your ward.

I can give you ideas for cuts if you want.

Hey Awdiehl7, it’s been a while but I’ve been meaning to thank you for posting the image of your deck, it’s awesome!!! It’s so cool to see that you and others are as big a fan of this deck as I am.

I’m back and I’m testing changes to the deck. You’ll probably see lots of edits over the next few days. When I’m happy with the changes I’ll post an update.

I’m on the fence with The One Ring, since it’s expensive at 4 mana for a protection and card-draw effect.

Hey GodzSoldier, thank you for the constructive criticism. I have taken your advice and added new tutors like Insatiable Avarice and Beseech the Mirror, and I also added Mindlash Sliver, a card that slipped by me somehow. Any other suggestions are always welcome.
