THE NOT RED ABOMINATION'S JOURNEY

G/W Counters was where this deck began. Kalonian Hydra + Mikaeus, the Lunarch was the combo that the deck started around. Gavony Township was a staple of the original deck. It was one of the most enjoyable decks I have ever had the privilege of running, especially in a sixty card format. This was back when I first started playing MtG after collecting for a few years. Innistrad was the first real plane in the multiverse for me, since it was the first prerelease after I started playing. New Phyrexia, however, was the plane I first played on, influencing my play style to counter-aggro strategies.

Until Theros, my sixty card deck didn't see to much change. That was when I met a man who practically lived and breathed MtG. He introduced me to the Commander format, and helped me convert G/W Counters into Bant Counters, with the inclusion Of Sage of Hours into the combo. With Kalonian Hydra + Mikaeus, the Lunarch + Sage of Hours the three card multiple card combo was solidified first behind Treva, the Renewer.

With Treva, the Renewer as my commander, I ran into a couple of problems. My playstyle didn't work with my commander at all! With the inclusion of cards such as Cathars' Crusade and Contagion Engine, I watched my counter game take off behind a useless card. Doubling Season became one of the most powerful and versatile cards in my deck, fueling not just my aggro game, but also my Planeswalker package. Tamiyo, the Moon Sage was able to pop off almost consistently every game with the inclusion of Doubling Season. As the continued, my deck became Control-Aggro-Lockout, allowing me to take an infinite number of extra turns in succession or even after other players turns.

Jenara, Asura of War, however, was when my Bant Counter deck became the most destructive, giving me the commander to go along with my strategies. Win after win, I learned more strategies and tactics and adapted some into my own signature moves. A protection package to fend of targeted removal and sacrifice techniques that golgari and black decks enjoy using. The use of the command zone to protect my board state and develop static abilities. All of these things were amazing tactics that served me well for a long time.

After playing against a friend of mine who plays prodominately black inclusive decks, when Wizards announced the addition of the four color Commander decks, I figured it was time to move on to adding black myself. This is merely the first stage in the construction of what I prefer to call my Bant Black Commander deck.
