Field of Souls Discussion

FenIsABasicSwamp on JLK's Elenda l Game Knights #14

Planar Void fixes the main struggle with Elenda by allowing her to die and then actually go back to the command zone instead of exile. It also gels well with a token sub theme. Speaking of which, a token deck should probably run Teysa, Orzhov Scion, Field of Souls, and Plague of Vermin along with the soul sisters to help stabilize your life while you use it as a resource otherwise. Phyrexian Reclamation is also great with Planar Void as you can return the creature to your hand in response to the trigger. Incidentally, that makes it also just another auto include with Elenda. A good wincon for Elenda might be Bitter Ordeal as such a deck should be able to make so many guys die in one turn with Grave Pact effects and huge numbers of tokens.

Just a casual suggestion, but since Teysa is a sac engine you might want to look into such cards as Spirit Bonds which allows the creation of a 1/1 white spirit for W when you play a non-token creature to fuel the sac to exile and also allows the spending 1W to sac a spirit to give a creature indestructible which could be used to protect Teysa. You could also use First Response which creates a 1/1 white solider token if you took damage the previous turn. There's also Field of Souls which creates a 1/1 white flying spirit token whenever you loose a non-token creature. Finally Anointed Procession which doubles the number of tokens you create.

Nim Deathmantle I found is very strong. Works with Marsh Flitter and Ashnod's Altar for an infinite sac outlet triggers. Also any black creature, with Ashnod's Altar and Ogre Slumlord or Requiem Angel and Teysa, Orzhov Scion. Also works without Teysa if you have both Ogre Slumlord or Requiem Angel, or any extra token producer, like Field of Souls. Infinite mana can also be made with Nether Traitor, alongside Carnival of Souls, a sac outlet, and a Soul Sister effect (Soul Warden). I feel if you are running Triskelion you should also run Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, because some times you need to cheese that guy who plays Zur. Anyway, spicy Teysa build!

Thank you! Sol Ring and Azorius Signet are definite adds, I just usually lump them in while I'm fully adding land. I may also grab a Basalt Monolith for this one as well for when I need to drop something big. I'll have to see what all I have on hand for mana rocks. Only grabbed the Borderpost because it happened to be sorted wrong while i was looking through my multicolors.

Field of Souls and Felidar Umbra are absolutely going on my list. And I'm glad that someone else sees the usefulness of Darksteel Mutation! My friends give me a lot of flack whenever I run it.

I'd look at running 37 or 38 lands, given your 8 7 & 8 drops. In addition to that, the very boring but practical suggestion of 4-6 mana rocks. Sol Ring, Azorius Signet, Fellwar Stone...anything to help power out your bigger spells a few turns earlier to go along with the Borderpost.

Field of Souls can be nice. Darksteel Mutation is a handy aura. Felidar Umbra makes a creature wrath-proof.

Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim is a great option, especially if you add in Proper Burial into the mix. Also, Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood love life gain like this, and could help pay off when you gain life you're gaining anyways. (Not to mention the instant win combo).

Teysa, Orzhov Scion works great with this, especially with Bad Moon and Darkest Hour in play. (Note: it's always great to spam blockers with spirit producers like Abzan Ascendancy and Field of Souls. Or just play Sifter of Skulls or Golgari Germination
