This is a 75% Scion of the Ur-Dragon tribal deck. Why 75% you ask. Well, to be honoust, a competitive Scion of the Ur-Dragon deck just isn't that appealing to me, nor to my playgroup, but I still wanted to build something around this 5 colour Dragon general.

Make no mistake, the main interaction is build around Scion's ability to become any dragon, on the downside that means that a dragon has just entered your graveyard. So to make the best of it, I created a deck that can still function even if Scion the the Ur-Dragon is not out.

There are two ways to play this deck: casualy and more aggressive. If you want to play casual tribal, skip the next two sections.

Combo and Synergy

Beforehand: Timing and the stack are very important in this deck.

If you have trouble breaking through a wall of flyers, just add Dragonlord Atarka or Mana-Charged Dragon or Hellkite Tyrant in the mix.

Haste: Tyrant's Familiar, Dragonlord Kolaghan

Extra mana: Savage Ventmaw

Stacking the stack

You are still reading, so you wnt to play aggressively. In that case, you do not want to draw dragons, you want to use them with your Scion Ur-Dragon. So Scroll Rack, Sensei's Divining Top to put cards in the order you want them and putting them back from hand to library.

Manas

This is a five colour deck, with no basic lands. To avoid running a slow a tedious deck: some mana ramp and fixing. You really need some to start this train, so there is a bit more green mana in this deck just to get you started.

Protecting Scion of the Ur-Dragon

First and foremost: Shield of Kaldra and Darksteel Plate

Then there is the nice touch of changing him to a Quicksilver Dragon to divert incoming spells

Yavimaya Hollow: regenerate him

Wipes

I tried to design this deck in such a way that nothing is irreplacable. So when you need to remove something, remove it all: Purify , Decimate, Damnation, Wrath of God, Shatterstorm, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and Merciless Eviction.

Putting it all back

You may want to use the same dragon twice. So there is: Elixir of Immortality, Feldon's Cane , Hua Tuo, Honored Physician , Volrath's Stronghold

Special mention in this section for Feldon of the Third Path: copy dragons from your graveyard is an excellent plan (they have haste too)

Noteworthy other cards

Five colours, so hey: Maelstrom Nexus

And Seedborn Muse, Mirari's Wake

And Urabrask the Hidden

And Dragon Tempest because why not?

Sideboard

Basically, a lot of dragons can be put here, put I really want to be the first to mention Nalathni Dragon in EDH / commander context. It has a fun ability that no-one truly understands (banding), and it will put smiles to faces...but it is just so tiny

Notable Exclusions

I considered Kokusho, the Evening Star: but decided against it. It will only function when it leaves play...by then I should have crippled an opponent and that is not something this dragon does.

Likewise Flameblast Dragon is nice, but him I left out because of the mana investment...with this Scion deck, you'll invisting your mana in the scion, to make a hasted, trampling, indestructible engine of death...I don't have any mana spare to create fireballs
