Advantage Dragons (1)

Draw | Value (1)

Following the scale that Game Nights podcast created for commander in this episode:

This deck tries to get between the level 7 or 8, in the optmized level, that corresponds to:

  • 9-10 Competitive (all the best cards, I'm rich and money is my only friend)
  • 7-8 Optimized (all desired effects, but sometimes with cheaper versions)
  • 5-6 Focused (a deck that tries to do something very well, but with some space for "I like this art")
  • 3-4 Casual (a lot of space to "I like this art" or unusual themes (like hats or chairs), focused on fun and not necessarily trying to win)
  • 1-2 Jank (well ... what's left from the draft?)

I'm not going to explain all the details of this list, but is my oldest commander and it's the deck I've spent most time on, so all the cards have been tested over and over again. Let's to the deck:

Combos:

Although this deck can win in aggro mode, it is self explanatory, use Scion to tutor a hell of good dragons, reanimate all them together and kick some asses.

But the combos aren't that easy, especially the Worldgorger dragon combo, that is extremely efficient, but extremely fragile.

Starting with combos that doesn't win the game right away, but kicks someone of the game instantly:

  • If you have Curiosity in hand, transform Scion in Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind , tap it and voilà.
  • If you have Tainted Strike in hand, transform Scion in The Ur-Dragon , attacks and voilà.
  • If you have nothing in hand, but needs to kill someone, attacks unpretentiously with scion, if it passes unblocked, activate Scion's ability, hold priority and activates once more. When the second resolves (wich resolve first in the pile), transforms it in Moltensteel Dragon , activate Moltensteel Dragon ability as much as necessary to reach 10 power (remeber, do this while holding priority and before the first transformation ability resolves). Them, let the first ability of Scion resolves and search for Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon . Voilà!

But, the best and main combo of the deck is the Worldgorger Dragon . The objective is to put this guy in the graveyard somehow (you can do this with: Scion of the Ur-Dragon , Entomb or Buried Alive ), and reanimates it with Necromancy , Dance of the Dead or Animate Dead . The combo works like is discribed the article in Tappedout: Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon , but I've copied it bellow. The objective is to generate a large amount of mana, cast Scion of the Ur-Dragon (or just transform if it is already in the battlefield), transforms him into Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and ping everyone to death.

The combo can also generates infinite quantity of:

  • Mana (any color you have available)
  • ETB triggers
  • Death/LTB triggers

Steps:

Note 1: Creatures entering the battlefield from exile have summoning sickness, so you cannot activate tap abilities of creatures that don't have haste.

Note 2: To stop this combo you have either have Scion on the battlefield (wich can garantee the victory righ away) or another valid creature target in a graveyard.

Note 3: It is possible for Card:Worldgorger Dragon to leave the battlefield before its “enters the battlefield” trigger resolves. If this happens, then the “leaves the battlefield” trigger will have nothing to return. Then its “enters the battlefield” trigger resolves, and all other permanents you control are exiled forever. So make sure you have answers in your hand, like counters or Silence , or even Grand Abolisher or card:dromoka dragonlord in the battlefield.

Voilà.
