Ruin Processor Discussion

Yesterday on Inverter of Truth Ability

Eh, one note here. Inverter of Truth exiles your cards face-down (and so have no properties), so there's basically nothing you can do to interact with those cards again, even in eternal formats. Riftsweeper, Pull from Eternity, Runic Repetition, Mirror of Fate can't fetch them. Misthollow Griffin and friends can't be cast. Processors (like Ruin Processor) only interact with your opponents' exile zones.

TypicalTimmy Ah, so you enjoy playing gruul, eh? Im a simic guy myself, but i once made a gruul beast deck with some old onslaught cards i had, it wasn't very good. so, what's your favorite legendary creature? mine's Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger (eldrazi hold a REALLY big space in my heart, and ulamog's my favorite titan), whats the first card that you remember? i remember opening the jimmy johns box and picking up Will-Forged Golem in my cousin's garage and the next card i picked up was Ruin Processor and that did it for me

Thanks for the advice, Gattison! I think that I will switch out Unnatural Aggression for either Prey Upon or Rabid Bite , since the exile part isn't necessarily too important, since I have cards with ingest. My main goal with this deck is essentially to create scion tokens to play more creatures or larger creatures, which I can swing with to win. In my opinion, the ingest mechanic is almost like a bonus in my deck; since I'll be swinging anyways, I might as well exile some cards while I'm at it. I can then use those cards if I need to by using Oracle of Dust to cycle through my deck for the larger creatures, or with Ruin Processor to gain life if I'm running low. As far as running other eldrazi cards, I just made this deck with cards that are already in my collection, so I don't have a lot of selection to choose from. I think I also will switch out Titanic Growth for Giant Growth , if I have enough copies.

As far as generating , I can actually generate with the scion tokens and Kozilek's Channeler . The reason that they do not have the symbol is because it was introduced in OGW, and these cards came out in BFZ. The rules for such cards have since been adjusted at accommodate for cards like these; for example, if you check out the tokens or Kozilek's Channeler on the Gatherer, you will see that they produce instead of generic, just as Sol Ring produces instead of generic now.

I appreciate your feedback and suggestions! I'll get to test it tonight hopefully, so we'll see how it runs!

Something of note Grinning Totem, Sadistic Sacrament, and Jester's Cap exile from their library which does not give Tariel, Reckoner of Souls any targets. These got me thinking though and I went and looked at the eldrazi processors. This idea is really janky but you are getting your opponents best creatures if you do this.

Blight Herder, Mind Raker, Ruin Processor, Ulamog's Despoiler, and Wasteland Strangler all work for this plan. I want to emphasize that this is taking jank level to over 9000 but it would allow Grinning Totem, Sadistic Sacrament, and Jester's Cap to give Tariel, Reckoner of Souls some targets.

Some suggestions...

  • Opal Palace - does a lot more in buffing Walker of the wastes than another wastes.

  • also, another amazing land has been printed as a common since then. Cradle of the Accursed :)

  • how often do you feel you get to 9 mana? Hand of Emrakul is the other big beater you are missing. annhilator in pauper seems good enough, haha.

  • if you still wanted an additional fatty to equip with evasion, Ruin Processor is the last biggest guy you are missing.

  • Vorrac Battlehorns is great that it forces your opponent to only ever block with one creature, which greatly accels your commander damage clock. Since it gives trample, you get to do the same strategy on any of your other beaters as a 2nd option.

  • Here's a big one in my opinion. run more cantrips. you want to be consistently hitting lands drops and getting to your key enchantments. in colorless, this is hard to do. cantrips really help turn through your deck to find those pieces you need to complete your strategy. here's a start: Chromatic Sphere, Chromatic Star, Conjurer's Bauble, Relic of Progenitus, Urza's Bauble, Astrolabe, Ichor Wellspring, Orazca Relic

Things i don't like in here...

  • Frogmite - a cheap, sometimes free 2/2? i would rather just run another cantrip effect like some i listed above.

  • Lens of Clarity - its a really cool effect, but i think Glasses of Urza does a much better job at the "information advantage" then the lens does. just my opinion.

  • Phyrexian Walker - again, i don't like running 0 cost things that do nothing on there own. run a ramp spell in place of it to get to your bigger bombs quicker. a 0/3 is not where you want to be, early or late.

  • Rusted Slasher - way too vulnerable and will never get a hit in. there are so many better 4 drops you should be playing, or again, replace with a cantrip. I would much rather play a cantrip into an equipment on t4 than this guy

  • Galvanic Key - neat trick, but i don't see this combat trick come up very often and colorless decks don't "fool" anyone when they leave up mana unless it is 7+ for scour mana.

- For as creature heavy as this deck is, you have them for your first line of defense and offense, having Aether Meltdown and Dampening Pulse isnt necessary to staying protected. Cutting them out frees up important room for mana ramp cards to get more creatures out faster.

- Needlebite Trap, really only good if youre going up a lifegain deck, and if thats your reason for running it you might as well just sideboard it and only put it in the deck when you need it.

- Drownyard Behemoth a very steep casting cost for a 5/7 that only has hexproof for one turn, which it probably wont even be targeted on. Even the emerge cost is steep.

- Vexing Scuttler another high casting eldrazi that does little in return. Youre better off hoping to drawing another instant/sorcery than having to spend 3 mana on this creature just to bounce one back to your hand.

- Grizzled Angler  Flip a decent early game blocker, but its transforming mills your own deck and depends on I feel youve lost a creature. For 3 mana why not cast a Dominator Drone? Its giving you more damage than the Anglers fish side because it hits the board a turn earlier. Id cut just one Grizzled Angler  Flip for now, its transformed Ability could be a good way to clear your opponents board of blockers, but you wouldnt need to of him in the field so.

Like I said, the ingest interaction can be a really good source of utility effects for an eldrazi deck, but you either need to focus more on this idea, or cut some of those cards so you have more room for aggro/ramp. Youre too creature heavy right now, and not enough ramp. For the most part your noncreature spells look fine, save the possible cuts I mentioned.
you should take the creatures you have picked out right now, and categorize them based on what they offer you during a game. Go through each stack of these and compare which creatures in their categories beat out each other. For example, Dominator Drone drops down for 3 mana and is dealing 2 dmg of the bat, not to mention its swinging for 3 dmg when you attack. Reaver Drone guarentees no Damage, is only swinging for 2 when you attack, can be chump blocked with a 1/1, and shoots you in the foot if you dont have another creature out.

QuantumMechanic on So I've got some Eldrazi. ...

As the title says, I've got some Eldrazi, and I'd like to ask what kind of deck should I build with them (or some of them)? What kinds of Eldrazi decks are fun, great, yet also not too expensive (casual format, but still decent competitively). And what cards should I acquire to make it work? This can be as specific or as broad as you'd like as far as answers go, if any; whether that be just suggesting a type of deck, giving me a list of good cards, building or tagging a complete deck here, that's up to how you feel like answering. Just came here for some advice, so... yeah. Apologies for the vague description, not too much to.. describe.
