Tishana, Thundering Tank BUDGET

The Deck

Unlike a lot of other Tishana, Voice of Thunder decks out there, this one doesn't try and cast a ton of elves and Overrun the opponent. Instead, it abuses Tishana's ETB ability by flickering and cloning.

This deck is also meant to be budget, and under $100—and it was, when I made it (card prices fluctuate, sigh). This means no expensive lands like Gaea's Cradle or shocklands (I make due with my growing rites   and Guildgates). I did keep a few of the more expensive token makers (e.g. Avenger of Zendikar and Deranged Hermit) because they add just so much value to this deck. This deck is surprisingly effective for how cheap it is.

Gameplay

The general idea of the deck is to put out two or three small dudes that provide mana (dorks, fetchers, etc). These help both with ramping into Tishana, Voice of Thunder and increasing the amount of creatures on the battlefield when tishana is played. Before casting Tishana, the small dudes can be followed up by token makers (eg Avenger of Zendikar, Brood Monitor, Deranged Hermit) which will greatly improve your chances of winning, but aren't necessary.

After casting Tishana, the primary goal is to draw more cards by flickering or cloning. If you have 6 or so total creatures in play when Tishana comes out, you will probably draw into another flicker/clone card. These draw cards usually "chain" together, so once you start drawing, you'll usually draw until you run out of mana.

Now, Tishana, Voice of Thunder should be large (preferably with power 21 or above, so you can one-shot with commander damage). If you flickered tishana this turn, you want to grant her haste if possible (Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots). After that, make her unblockable (Whirler Rogue, Aqueous Form, Rogue's Passage, etc), and swing for the win!

Specific cards

  • River's Rebuke is budget bounce (ie is a replacement for Cyclonic Rift)
  • Spontaneous Generation is very strong as well, and can be played regardless of whether or not tishana is on the field.
  • Turbulent Dreams is just a wincon after tishana has resolved. Bounce ALL their stuff, and swing. you don't even need evasion.
  • Ghostly Flicker is not only creatures, so use the other flickers (eg Illusionist's Stratagem) first
  • Memory's Journey is more defensive tech--it prevents you from getting milled, can stop opposing grave combos, and can get key cards back in a pinch.
  • Sprout Swarm is very strong. By tapping the extra tokens that are lying around, the buyback cost is not hard at all.
  • Veil of Secrecy both provides evasion and protection, which is nice.

let me know what you think!

Notes: - I want a few more counterspells; however, this deck really likes its creatures; maybe Mystic Genesis, Summoner's Bane, Frilled Mystic, - I didnt put in extra turn cards originally, as i wasnt playing multiplayer. However, being able to kill everyone before anyone else gets a turn is satisfying. Maybe Karn's Temporal Sundering or Part the Waterveil - Another card that gives me no max hand size; only one backup in case tishana dies is scary.
