Lorescale Coatl Discussion

For creatures, seems like you have the deck split three ways between graft, adapt, and evolve. I would recommend taking out the graft creatures like Plaxcaster Frogling and Aquastrand Spider , I just don't think graft is a very good mechanic. I would also take out Skatewing Spy , considering most of your creatures have either evasion or a relevant activated ability already. Also Feral Hydra feels like it's easily outclassed other cards. That's eight creatures out, 28 to begin with feels high, so maybe add a combination of 2-3 Lorescale Coatl and 2-3 Avatar of the Resolute . Also this one is just my opinion, but I feel like something like Verdurous Gearhulk could be a better finisher than Vorel of the Hull Clade , especially since your 3 drop slot is pretty packed and you curve out at 4.

For non-creature spells, Plasm Capture is a little bit too high costed and the payoff isn't too relevant to you, consider taking it out for another Cancel or Frilled Mystic , however you may just want to take out all the Cancel for Mana Leak s. If you took out eight creatures and only replaced 4-6, then you have room for some more spells like Incubation / Incongruity .

For land, add 2 either Temple of Mystery or Yavimaya Coast and take out the Thornwood Falls . Overall, looks decent and has an adaptive enough game plan to be fun (pun intended)

I agree about the Lorescale Coatl not being much use in this particular deck. It depends on how much drawing you see during a game, but I think a mana dork or a creature that fetches lands would be a better choice. I think that Prophet of Kruphix + River Hoopoe is amazing, however. In casual games that could steamroll the table with big creatures. Once you reach 5 mana in a typical 4 player game, that would be 6 life and draw 3 going around the table at your opponent's end of turn. And a big creature play on their turns as well with the flash on prophet.

Thanks again Geschlechts,

Growth Spiral and Coiling Oracle are both nice early game and I have a tougher time cutting such low CMC cards, which because of the draw basically become cantrips in my deck. I do have probably an unhealthy attachment to the sad robot and you are right about him.

Lorescale Coatl and Humble Defector have both under performed when on the board. And Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, I end up parking in my hand cause there is always a better choice to play.

If I swapped out those three for Anger, Fervor, and Chord of Calling (usually to pull out a god) I think that would improve the deck dramatically.

I am even thinking that Seshiro the Anointed could be replaced by Obelisk of Urd pretty easily. Or even swap Solemn for the Obelisk and keep both.

Sakiko, Mother of Summer was recently moved out of the deck. I have found that most of the named Legendary Snakes, which I originally had in here are slowly finding their way out.

If I already owned a Doubling Season, it would definitely go into this deck. But at $45+ price tag, its just too pricey for me.

I'd recommend dropping:

Growth Spiral - Good cantrip but doesn't combo with your commander.

Solemn Simulacrum - I think better options are out there.

Coiling Oracle, Lorescale Coatl - Great flavor but minimal impact.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind - for the reason you listed above.

Humble Defector - A little slow but you can play politics with it.

That makes room for 6 cards.

Anger + Fervor

Chord of Calling + Obelisk of Urd - Put that convoke to use.

Sakiko, Mother of Summer - Of all the cards in your maybeboard this looks like the most useful.

Doubling Season - The recent reprint has made the price not too ridiculous.

Just look at the ridiculous card draw that occurs in Sing of Winning. Yes I know that it is a Temur deck and not Izzet but 6+ card draws in a turn - then Lorescale Coatl......

Ominous Seas and Teferi's Ageless Insight could do wonders in a deck like Sing of Winning if you replace the mill strategy with straight-up beat-down.

Thanks zobster great suggestions - I totally lost track of Lorescale Coatl which I included in a number of pre-rotation decks. Ominous Seas is just made for this deck.

Consider adding a Lorescale Coatl or a Ominous Seas. Also, if your deck is based around Song of Creation why not run 4.
