Necrotic Ooze in the command zone!? There's no way that go wrong...

  • Fast graveyard based combo
  • Hard to disrupt once online
  • Necrotic Ooze in the command zone

The primary plan is to assemble infinite mana, then draw/mill our entire deck, and then use various abilites to find a way to win.

Since Trazyn has all activated abilities of artifacts in our graveyard, he can pair high mana generation with cheap untap effects leading to some interesting synergies. The following lists untap effects, followed by what cards generate infinite mana with them.

Using Basalt Monolith to untap:
Using Pili-Pala/Farmstead Gleaner/Voltaic Construct to untap:

Note: If Pili-Pala is the untap effect, opponent's can't respond, as Pili-Pala's ability is a mana ability, and thus does not use the stack. This lets us generate infinite mana without worrying about interaction.

Chromatic Orrery and Staff of Domination are special artifacts effects because they act as big mana/untap effects while acting as a way to dig through our library

Chromatic Orrery
  1. Tap Trazyn for .
  2. Use an untap effect to untap him.
  3. Repeat 1-2 to generate symbol:infinity-c
  4. Activate Chromatic Orrery's symbol:tap ability to draw a card.
  5. Use an untap effect to untap Trazyn.
  6. Repeat 4-5 to draw entire library
Staff of Domination
  1. Tap Trazyn for + using a big mana ability.
  2. Untap Trazyn using Staff's ability.

Note from Trazyn's Scryfall Page:
- If an activated ability of a card in a graveyard references the card it’s printed on by name, treat Trazyn the Infinite’s version of that ability as though it referenced Trazyn the Infinite by name instead. (2022-10-07)

  1. Repeat 1-2 to generate symbol:infinity-c
  2. Use Staff's to draw a card.
  3. Use Staff's to untap Trazyn.
  4. Repeat to draw library

Now that we have infinite mana, lets do something with it. Generally this means milling/draw our entire library. Unless otherwise noted, this assumes the artifacts are in the graveyard.

How to Win

Once we have access to our entire library we can cast Walking Ballista (we still have infinite mana!) to ping everyone to death. - If it's countered, we just activate its abilities a bunch of times using Trazyn.

There are multiple lines that remove our library, or just outright win, and this walks through them in no particular order.

Note: Every time this references an untap effect, Pili-Pala is always the best one because its untap effect is a mana ability so opponents can't respond to it

Perpetual Timepiece
  • Tap Trazyn to mill two cards.
  • Use some of the infinite mana to activate the untap effect, untapping Trazyn.
  • Repeat to mill whole library
The One Ring

One Ring To Rule Them All...

  • Tap Trazyn to draw some cards
  • Activate the untap effect, untapping Trazyn
  • Repeat to draw most of library

Note: This is unlikely to draw entire library. The magic numbers are 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45, 55, 66, 78, and 91 cards left if The Ring has been unused thus far.

Mesmeric Orb
On the battlefield

  • In the process of generating infinite mana we'll mill our whole library along the way, as Trazyn activating an untap ability will trigger Orb
  • Leyline Dowser can also go infinite if it's in the graveyard, as Trazyn can tap himself to untap himself. This will us into another line

Chromatic Orrery/Staff of Domination
  • Using the lines noted above in the Infinite Mana section, draw your whole library.
  • Cast Walking Ballista for an arbitrarily large X value.
  • If countered, activate its abilities using Trazyn

Ransom Note
  • Using the lines noted above in the Infinite Mana section, draw your whole library.
  • Cast Walking Ballista for an arbitrarily large X value.
  • If countered, activate its abilities using Trazyn

Note: In some situations you can also cloak your full library, and then flip over Walking Ballista for 0 mana, putting it the graveyard to then use with Trazyn.

Buried Alive
General Line 1
  1. Tutor Palladium Myr + Farmstead Gleaner + Walking Ballista/Triskelion
  2. Alternate Palladium Myr + Farmstead for infinite +1/+1 counters.
  3. Remove all the counters with Walking Ballista/Triskelion to deal infinite damage
  4. If an opponent tries to respond in the middle of steps 2 or 3, then just activate again immediately and keep going.

Buried Alive

General Line 2
  • Tutor Phyrexian Devourer and Walking Ballista/Triskelion. The third card is unnecessary, though something like Patchwork Gnomes provides protection
  • Activate Phyrexian Devourer, exiling the top card. Counters may be added to Trazyn
  • Remove these counters using Walking Ballista
  • Repeat for damage equal to the mana value of cards left in your library

Note: As this is not deterministically lethal, General Line 1 is usually better. But this is an option

Buried Alive
General Line 3
  1. Tutor Palladium Myr, Pili-Pala, and Walking Ballista
  2. Alternate Myr and Pili-Pala for infinite mana
  3. Activate Ballista's ability infinite times
  4. Ping for lethal using Ballista's other ability
Buried Alive
Metalworker Line

  1. Tutor Metalworker + any untap effect + Walking Ballista
  2. If you just have one artifact in hand, you may need to find Farmstead Gleaner or Pili-Pala as the untap effect.
  3. Generate infinite mana by alternating revealing 2+ artifacts to Metalworker's ability and activating the untap effect
  4. Activate Ballista's : Put a +1/+1 counter on this permanent** until there are many counters on Trazyn
  5. If they try to remove Ballista or Trazyn, activate it again in response
  6. Activate Ballista's Remove a +1/+1 counter: Deal 1 damage to any target until every opponent is dead
  7. Again, if they try to remove Trazyn or Ballista, just activate in response.

28 January, 2023

Rocket Launcher → Staff of Compleation - Rocket Launcher, while amusing, wasn't good. Staff of Compleation helps get our artifacts to the graveyard, and leads to some interesting potential lines with the infinite combo online.

Illuminor Szeras → Praetor's Grasp - Szeras did nothing to enable the combo, as he only sacrifices creatures, and he's often too slow. Praetor's Grasp lets us steal opposing combos or interaction to better position ourselves for a win.

15 March, 2023

Dire Mimic → The One Ring - Dire Mimic wasn't very useful now that we have access to both Shimmer Myr and Liberator, so this card was feeling a little meh. The One Ring is a powerhouse, and if Trazyn activates The One Ring, we can draw lots of cards, but not have to pay the life cost.

Cabal Coffers → Netherborn Altar - The deck usually sees 1-2 Swamps in a game, and Coffers produces nothing on its own, making it a mana negative land. Netherborn Altar helps us get around Drannith Magistrate, and also if our commander is removed multiple times. There are some weird niche loops with it as well if you can get a haste enabler for Trazyn and infinite mana.

19 February, 2024

Rain of Filth → Ransom Note - Rain of Filth has the same problem as Cabal Coffers, rarely netting positive mana. Ransom Note fills our graveyard, and is an infinite mana sink, allowing us to draw our full library. Can also cloak our full deck in niche situations (flipping over Walking Ballista at that point wins the game). The goad can also save in a pinch.

18 March, 2024

Castle Locthwain → Swamp - Castle Locthwain typically doesn't enter untapped, and that can drastically affect the first few turns.

29 April, 2024

Emergence Zone → Swamp - Looking for some more black mana sources, and Emergence Zone requires holding up mana the deck typically doesn't have.

05 May, 2024

The deck was consistently not casting 3+ spells because it needs to hold mana for Trazyn, and it was also needing more sources to get cards into the graveyard. This update is an overhaul trading the most expensive interaction pieces for increased speed.

Praetor's Grasp → Wand of Vertebrae

Opposition Agent → Codex Shredder

Reprocess → Grinding Station - Grinding Station has been very powerful in testing, allowing for some very aggressive turns, regardless of whether it's in the graveyard or battlefield.

Heartstone → Leyline Dowser - Leyline Dowser lets Trazyn go infinite with Mesmeric Orb

Thousand-Year Elixir → Painter's Servant - Trying out this combo for a little while, Trazyn provides a backup for Grinding Station

Mox Amber → Grindstone - Trying out this combo for a little while, Trazyn provides a backup for Grinding Station

Lake of the Dead → Swamp - Looking for some more stable mana, the explosiveness of Lake of the Dead rarely changed anything

20 May, 2024

Chrome Mox → Transmutation Font - Chrome Mox doesn't have enough cards to support it anymore. Trying out Transmutation Font in its place. Probably will go after MH3 is fully spoiled.

Jhoira's Toolbox → Rusted Slasher - Toolbox required holding up mana to regenerate. Slasher fixes this problem and is another way to dump cards into the graveyard as well.

03 March, 2025

Banned and Restricted Announcement took out two of our best acceleration cards. Also, Transmutation Font has not been performing. Aetherdrift gave some new cards to look at.

Transmutation Font → Radiant Lotus - Radiant Lotus can be a very explosive card, and quickly gets many artifacts to the graveyard. Can also fuel big turns around Staff of Domination

Jeweled Lotus → Found Footage - More graveyard cards

Mana Crypt → Marketback Walker - A worse Walking Ballista, with infinite mana puts infinite counters.

25 August, 2025
I've been eyeing a rehaul on some of the basic themes of the deck, and the release of Edge of Eternities provided the perfect opportunity.

Kuldotha Forgemaster → Tezzeret, Cruel Captain - Kuldotha Forgemaster was slow, and required a lot for a mid tutor. Tezzeret is a very explosive tutor that can also untap Trazyn. Tezzeret has consistently performed very well during playtesting, and is a must kill.

Phyrexian Tower → Diamond Lion - Phyrexian Tower is a slow card that required a lot. Diamond Lion is a back up LED, and can usually enable a turn 2 Trazyn.

Energy Refractor → Shriekhorn - The flash package is very rarely relevant, and this card is not great on its own. Swapped it for another self mill card

Shimmer Myr → Throne of the Grim Captain   - See above

Inquisition of Kozilek → Silent Gravestone - Removing a single card from an opponent was too slow, and it doesn't hit most of our targets. Targeted graveyard removal has become more popular lately, so Silent Gravestone is a better protection card that fuels artifact strategies.

Swamp → Ghoulcaller's Bell - Too many lands, not enough mill

Swamp → Sensei's Divining Top - Too many lands, not enough card selection

Painter's Servant → Argivian Avenger - Painter's Servant combo was too niche, and more for laughs. Argivian Avenger is a surprisingly powerful enabler, given that it can give Trazyn haste for . Flying and vigilance also have niche benefits. Argivian Avenger lets us combo off faster and out of nowhere more often as well.

Steel Hellkite → Citanul Flute - Surprised this card made it this far lol. Hasn't ever been great, and requires us to tap down Trazyn. Citanul Flute lets us tutor out key cards and enables more combos. Notably can tutor Walking Ballista for free. Citanul Flute has been very powerful in testing

Testing Notes

Citanul Flute has been very powerful, enables combos very quickly. Found Footage, Grindstone, and Ransom Note are the worst cards right now, followed by Thoughtseize and Leyline Dowser

Thoughtseize -> Fatal Push? - Thoughtseize is more for us than anyone else, but the deck has enough graveyard dumps and interaction might be more useful

Baleful Mastery -> Snuff Out? - Baleful Mastery is intensive mana wise. We usually have access to a swamp, and nonblack is irrelevant against most stax creatures the deck cares about

Found Footage -> Marvin, Murderous Mimic? - Marvin seems interesting as a potential workaround for Trazyn not having haste. (ie t1 Marvin, t2 Dump combo, t3 play Trazyn, Trazyn gets abilities, Marvin gets Trazyn's abilities -> combo)

Grindstone -> Moonsilver Key? - Moonsilver Key tutors either Pili-Pala or Chromatic Orrery, which are the best two combo pieces. Doesn't play well with Trazyn's ability though, so it would be treated more as a colorless tutor than an artifact

Ransom Note -> Vexing Bauble? - Powerful hate piece that's pretty easy for us to work around, and shuts down opposing interaction on combo turn

Swamp -> The Mycosynth Gardens - Forgot this was a card, very powerful with many of our 0/1 mana artifacts, notably LED
