Sideboard

AT FIRST GLANCE, this commander screams "mana dork tribal". I mean, its obvious, right? No. Wrong. You would be wrong, if you wanted to make this deck as competitive as possible. Sure, you could build it with all the mana dorks, bring in Raggadragga and have a bunch of 3/3's and the like, and swing and maybe win. The problem is that once your opponents figure out the tremendous value you're getting (with those attacking dorks having a form of pseudo-vigilance), they focus in on those meager creatures and it's easier to shut you down early.

No... I propose.. A better way. A more gruul, more vicious method.

My first version of this deck was fun. Until it wasn't. For reasons stated above, the clever people in my playgroups caught on quickly, and changes needed to be made.

I replaced many of the mana dorks with land tutors and a few mana rocks. Oh, and I packed all the good green creature tutors-- primarily the ones that tutor and put them directly into play.

I also realized that if I use less mana dorks, and ramp in other ways, I can use the many red X spells (Earthquake/Starstorm/etc.) to wipe the board while keeping Raggadragga alive. How? Say I cast Earthquake, with X = 6 (or more). Ragga will trigger (We spend 7 or more casting the Earthquake), we give him +7/+7 on cast and now he's 11/11 and withstands the damage.

[ MANA DORKS ]

The most important mana producing creatures for this deck are :

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds

Marywn, the nurturer

Heronblade Elite

Viridian Joiner

These are the most important because they tap for mana equal to their power. This is key to setting your combo off.

[ SPENDING SEVEN ]

The most important part of the wording on this commander is the last paragraph, where it says, "Whenever you cast a spell, if at least seven mana was spent to cast it, untap target creature." Note that it does not state that your spell has to have a converted mana cost of seven. It simply states you have to spend 7 mana casting it. This opens the door for the use of X spells, buyback and kicker-type spells. It's more important to lean on these type of spells moreso than CMC 7+ spells, because you dont want to be crippled in the event of a boardwipe.

:: The most important of these spells are :

Wurmcalling

Fanning the Flames

:: Other similar useful cards:

Reap the Past

Comet Storm

Green Sun's Zenith

Commune with Lava

[ COMBOS ]

This deck is full of combos. It can combo off with the commander in play, using the important mana dorks to go infinite in several ways. It can also combo off in more traditional gruul ways...

  1. [INFINITE DAMAGE] Ragga + (Selvala / Heronblade) + Fanning the Flames How: With Ragga and Selvala/Heronblade on the table (no summoning sickness), Fanning in your hand. 7 or more mana on the table. Cast Fanning the Flames (with buyback) where X >= 2. You will have spent 7 mana on this spell. Raggadragga triggers, you untap Selvala/Heronblade and give it +7/+7. It now taps for 10! (+2/+2 from Ragga's static ability, +7/+7 from the trigger)
You can now recast Fanning the Flames with buyback infinitely, untapping Selvala/Heronblade each time.

  2. [INFINITE MANA] Ragga + (Selvala / Heronblade) + Aggravated Assault + Any 7 mana spell Cast a 7 mana spell to buff up Selvala / Heronblade and now tap the mana creature for 7+ red, feeding Aggravated Assault and untapping all your creatures. Repeat for infinite mana.

  3. [INIFNITE MANA/CARD DRAW/LIFE GAIN] Ragga + (Selvala/Heronblade/Marwyn/Viridian) + Staff of Domination + Any 7 mana spell Same as above (#2). Cast a 7 mana spell to buff up the MVP mana creature, use the Staff of Domination to untap the creature, then to untap the Staff, repeat for infinite mana. Use the infinite mana to draw your deck

  4. [INFINITE ETB/DAMAGE] Grinning Ignus + Birgi, God of Storytelling + Impact Tremors/Outpost Siege With Birgi on the table, cast Grinning Ignus. Birgi creates (R). Use the floating (R) to activate Igus, returning him to hand and giving you (2)(R). Recast Ignus, repeat. Win.

  5. Grinning Ignus + Birgi, God of Storytelling + Goblin Anarchomancer = Infinite red mana/ETB

  6. [INFINITE ETB/NON-LAND DESTRUCTION] Raggadragga + Selvala/Heronblade + Cloudstone Curio/Temur Sabertooth + Meteor Golem
