This is pretty much the usual Edgar Markov deck. The deck is a combination of token and aristocrat strategies, taking advantage of tribal Vampire synergies. This deck is built to be very competitive in most games, though I wouldn't classify it as a CEDH deck.

Updates Add

  • Added Henrika Domnathi  Flip I really like the versatility present here. I love that her ability can trigger the turn she comes out. With her first ability, she can take care of voltron commanders. (With the token from Edgar, 99% of the time, she will not sacrifice herself.) The card draw from the second ability is never a bad option. Finally, if I just need a good creature, she can transform into her much better side. I don't expect to activate the ability on the back often. Overall, as you can see, there's a lot to like here.
  • Removed Drana, Liberator of Malakir Yeah, this was tough. Drana is great for this deck. She's cheap, she encourages aggressive play, and can basically pump the entire board. Plus, she's also cheaper in mana value. However, she's not very big. If my opponent has a decently sized creature that can block her, Drana becomes nearly useless. Henrika's numerous options make her more useful overall.
  • Added Welcoming Vampire I am aware it only triggers once a turn. I don't care. This basically gives me a card with the first Vampire I cast each turn. The flying is a nice little bonus. Card draw is rarely a bad addition.
  • Removed Forerunner of the Legion The tutor effect is nice. However, getting the most useful Vampire in my deck is great, but it sucks when my opponents get to see it coming. The second ability is also great (being able to distribute 2 power and 2 toughness with every Vampire I cast), but overall, I think the card draw and the better body on Welcoming Vampire will be better.
  • Added Immersturm Predator Surprise! This is a Vampire! And a darn good one at that! The free sac outlet, similar to Yahenni, Undying Partisan is always nice. Add on the graveyard hate and the buff, and this gets out of control fast!
  • Removed Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet Kalitas is honestly one of the best Vampires in Magic. He neuters my opponents' graveyard strategies and provides another sac outlet. However, with the number of Blood Artist type of effects, they are a nonbo. Patron of the Vein, one of the best Vampires in this deck, is totally shut down by Kalitas. I'd rather have those effects than have Kalitas.
  • Added Bloodvial Purveyor I understand if you're hesitant to give your opponents card draw, even though Blood tokens. However, this guy is coming in because he hits hard! A 5/6 flyer with trample for 4 mana is so good! He even balances out the Blood token thing by hitting even harder! This deck needed some help in the air and this is just what the doctor ordered!
  • Removed Olivia Voldaren I know! This is practically blasphemy! Olivia is a very good card. However, I've never really been able to utilize her to her full extent. Her first ability is nice, but her second is just too mana intensive. Olivia wants a more controlling deck. This deck is aggressive. The Purveyor is a better fit.
  • Added Etchings of the Chosen So in my last update, I said I already added this. Well, I didn't then, so I'm adding it now! It's an anthem, it's a sac outlet, it protects Vampires I want to keep alive. Pretty much everything I could ask for.
  • Removed Falkenrath Noble It's a Blood Artist, but for 2 extra mana, it's a 2/2 with flying. A much better body. Having these types of effects are always great as a way to hit my opponents, even if I can't attack them. It's tough taking out a sacrifice payoff to put in another sacrifice outlet. There's a decent chance you'll see this added back in at some point.
  • Added Sorin the Mirthless A lot to like here. The main reason I like Sorin is that -2 ability. A 2/3 Vampire with flying and lifelink is the best token in the deck, bar none. Being able to do it twice, If I want, without having to +1 him is sweet. The +1 is also pretty good. At its worse, I get to see what I'm drawing next. At its best, it's basically Dark Confidant, which is a very good card. It's "card draw" and good board presence in one neat package.
  • Removed Sorin, Lord of Innistrad The token this Sorin makes is easily outclassed by the new Sorin, regardless of whether it's a +1 or -2 ability. The question is really if the "card draw" effect is better than the permanent buff. Whenever I play this Sorin, 90% of the time, I first activate the -2 ability. That way, even if he's immediately killed, he will have had a lasting impact on the game. I think the card draw is better though. We'll have to see.
  • Added Kaya, Geist Hunter Wow! I would have thought the new Sorin was a slam dunk for this deck, but Kaya is nuts! The big reason is that -2 ability. In Edgar's colors, you only had one option for extra tokens: Anointed Procession. It's an insane effect in this deck. Having another of those effects, even if it's just for 1 turn, is so worth it. Also, thanks to Edgar, when I activate Kaya's +1 ability, I can be confident I'll have a creature token to target. (Worth noting: Kaya's -2 affects noncreature tokens as well, and I'm adding 2 cards that make noncreature tokens.)
  • Removed Crackling Doom I really love this card. The damage is nice, but forcing my opponents to sacrifice their biggest creatures is usually a great play. In exchange for giving up the ability to target a specific creature and giving my opponents some choice in what goes away, you get around things like hexproof and indestructible. It usually pays off, but not always. Overall, the deck wants Kaya's effects more.
  • Added Scion of Opulence This is really all about that first ability. Getting mana back when my Vampires die is great, even if it's only nontoken Vampires. I don't anticipate activating the second ability often at all, but I think the other ability more than makes up for it.
  • Removed Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth I realized I was running 37 lands. Between the rather low curve of the deck and the mana rocks I play, there's no reason to have an extra land. This is the second time I've cut Urborg from this deck. This deck needs black mana far more than any other color, so Urborg was a way to fix my mana. However, any experienced EDH player knows that Urborg can be much better utilized in conjunction with things like Cabal Coffers, which I don't run. Since Urborg affects all lands, all I'm doing is helping my opponents who do run those kinds of effects.
  • Added Olivia's Wrath I initially balked at the idea of a 5 mana sorcery, but come on! First of all, it's one-sided, since all of my creatures are Vampires! (Purphoros is never a creature in this deck.) Secondly, it gets through hexproof and indestructible. With the number of Vampires this deck puts on board, this is essentially a huge wrath that leaves my opponents wide open.
  • Removed Utter End I play a lot of removal in this deck. I liked the idea of trading out one of them for the new Wrath. I chose to take out Utter End, because every other piece of removal is either cheaper or more useful. Being able to exile pretty much anything at instant speed is great, but not for 4 mana.
  • Added Voldaren Estate Duh! It fixes my mana to cast my Vampires, it can still tap for mana towards other spells, and, with this deck, it can spit out Blood tokens for free. Yes and yes!
  • Removed Nomad Outpost This is just outclassed by not only Voldaren Estate, but by Savai Triome and Path of Ancestry. All three of those lands are strictly bettter IMO.
  • Added Vault of Champions These lands were made for Commander. This deck is brutal in 1v1, so it coming in tapped in those games is just fine. Easy include.
  • Removed Concealed Courtyard Having access to white or black mana on my first two turns is great. The problem is that games of EDH tend to go for many more turns than that. This comes in tapped so much more often than it comes in untapped. The Vault is just more useful.
