Another random question: if the actual 1996 world champion made an edh deck with his only real copy of the card, would you play him even though the card isn't technically edh legal?

Absolutely. There are also some cards @trulyaliem and team have that I would declare legal, but only for the people for who the cards are made. Hell, if meddlingmage wanted to play his card as the commander, I'd allow it.
