I always thought Marchesa, the Black Rose would make a good commander because of her crazy synergy with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Essentially, with both of these creatures on the battlefield, none of your creatures can ever really stay gone; Mikaeus gives your non-humans Undying, meaning they'll come back with a +1/+1 counter. If that creature with a +1/+1 counter on it dies again, it will come back to your control WITHOUT that counter at the next end step thanks to Marchesa's ability.

With this idea in mind, I decided to try and steal as many of my opponent's creatures as possible, get a +1/+1 counter on them, and then sacrifice them somehow so that the creature returns to the battlefield under MY control at the end of the turn. With this strategy in mind, I can extend the value of lots of creatures that have ETB effects, plus I can beat my opponents down with their own mob.

Also, it must be noted, the official rules state that Marchesa, the Black Rose benefits from her own ability. So if SHE has a +1/+1 counter on her and SHE dies, IF YOU ALLOW HER TO GO TO THE GRAVEYARD, she will return to the battlefield under your control at the next beginning of end step. Please also recognize that doing that isn't risky; if she gets exiled from your graveyard (or anywhere, for that matter), you can just put her back into the Command Zone. Her ability will trigger on the rest of the creatures that were destroyed at the same time as her, and they will come back under your control at the next beginning of end step, even if you chose to put her into the Command Zone.

SO, in a nutshell: Steal your opponent's creatures, put a +1/+1 counter on them, then kill them somehow. Then they become yours to command.
