Description

Ever wanted to play Meren of Clan Nel Toth but hated black? Always wanted to play something pure and innocent? Well look no further, because Asmira, Holy Avenger is just that! All the tokens and recursion of BG with no evil-ness from black. Instead, white! The only pure color!

Well, how DO you make a non black EDH graveyard deck with voltron elements? Easily. Here are the three core parts of my deck:

  1. Voltron cards:

In order for Asmira, the holy avenger to survive and hit harder, we need cards that support that. Cards such as Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Champion's Helm, Whispersilk Cloak, Fireshrieker, and Opal Palace.

  1. Sac outlets:

Now since Asmira doesn't provide a sac outlet herself, we need other cards to provide that for us. We have one time effects like Eldritch Evolution and repeatable effects like Carnage Altar, Phyrexian Altar and the repeatable Sol Ring itself, Ashnod's Altar.

  1. Sac value:

Even though Asmira really likes things dying, those +1/+1 counters alone can't win us the game. That's why we have cards that provide several sac triggerers like Twilight Drover, Mitotic Slime, Pentavus, and Requiem Angel. Next we have recursion to get even more sacrifices. Card such as Saffi Eriksdotter, Reveillark, Sun Titan and the classic Eternal Witness.

A couple suggestions:
Martial Coup to get some tokens and kill a bunch of creatures.
Mycoloth to eat a few tokens to make more later, and also to abuse your commander's ability to add counters.
Primeval Bounty for tokens/counters/lifegain.
Eldrazi Monument for indestructible, flying armies for as long as you can spare a token each turn (which then turns into a +1/+1 counter).
Twilight Drover Turn +1/+1 counters into spirit tokens, get more +1/+1 counters when they die.

spotmarkedx Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definately add Mycoloth, Eldrazi Monument and Twilight Drover. I'm not too fond of Martial Coup as it kills my commander which is very counter-intuitive, because I want to build up Asmira to be as big as possible.

In regards to Martial Coup, and similar board-wipes, if you are able to recast Asmira, Holy Avenger after resolution, she still gets all the counters for the creatures that went to your graveyard this turn. (Link) Sometimes it's necessary to take a hit to prevent others from getting out of hand.

Is there a reason you aren't running a token doubler like Doubling Season or Parallel Lives? (Primal Vigor is another choice, but that can be a problem if you run into another token deck.) It seems like one of those would be fantastic for this deck, especially since they could enable a few combos like Pentavus+Doubling Season+Ashnod's Altar for infinite counters on Pentavus/sacrifices for Asmira, Holy Avenger (and infinite mana/tokens with both Parallel Lives and Doubling Season out). Love the concept and flavour of the deck! Great job!

alphashados I haven't really even considered token doublers. Maybe partly because my deck's primary win strategy is voltron and tokens only secondary. Doubling Season is a bit pricy for my taste and Primal Vigor might do more harm than good since my friends like to run token heavy decks. But thanks for the suggestion!

Spirit Mirror gives you one token every round and the means to sac it. Its also good for destroying anything with the misfortune to be "all creature types".

Thanks for the suggestion carpecanum. I'll definately consider adding it.

Emeria Shepherd combos with sakura tribe elder to play out all the plains in your deck, and add a bunch of death triggers at once. Also its a great recursion tool. Whisperwood Elemental is a great "token" generating card because it actually makes nontokens, which are more useful, plus it has a sacrifice ability that can help you combo off. Faith's Reward could be good. Gutter Grime, Field of Souls, Genesis Chamber, Spirit Bonds, Oketra's Monument are other potential token generating cards. Gate to the Afterlife for another fecundity effect. Cool deck.

Hi! Great deck man!

I don't know Your opinion about infinite combos, but if You add Fiend Hunter then You could create infinite mana and infinite counters on Asmira, Holy Avenger with Sun Titan/Karmic Guide + altars, or + Blasting Station and everyone dead.

Great choice of commander!

Hey, this is a great idea. Could you explain exactly how this Fiend Hunter+Karmic Guide+Blasting Station combo works so I can wrap my brain around it.. So when I play it I can explain it properly? Haha

Thanks!

Sorry for long response. I will try to explain this combo.

For example you have BS and ST on the battlefield, you play FH, when it enters the battlefield it triggers. You choose ST as the target and exile it. After that you tap BS and sacrifice FH targeting whatever you wish, FH triggers, goes to the graveyard, ST is back and two triggers goes to the stack (from ST and from BS), so you untap BS and put FH in play again... repeat the process.

I am not so good in clarifying such things (my English is far from perfect), sorry if it was not so helpful.

And I just saw my mistake about infinite mana, it won't happen in this case. For infinite mana you need an altar (Phyrexian Altar for example) instead of BS
