Narset: The Second Comming

Commander / EDH

junum

I originally made a narset superfriends deck long ago,and it was so obnoxious in locking out the opponent no one wanted to play against it. Not that they had a chance really, as the game was mostly me spinning dice higher till i made an emblem, and taking all the extra turns one could imagine. This deck is a return to my roots, on true American soil with the baddest: Narset, Enlightened Master

Of utmost importance is casting Narset fast. Especially against more competitive decks, getting an early Narset, especially turn 3-4 can be the cruel and crushing play you need to bend the game to your mercy. Cards like Lotus Petal or Lion's Eye Diamond can achieve a turn 3-ish Narset with relative ease, but on more of a budget, you get cards like Amulet of Vigor to turn your $1 Needle Spires or Mystic Monastery into some of the best lands ever printed. Other inclusions like Mind Stone and the various signets help to generate the fast mana we vitally need to pump out a quick Narset. Lotus Bloom may be the best in this regard, as it gives you a huge boost turn four for can easy cast, or it comes into play instantly either out of your library, from a clever Tezzeret the Seeker -0, or via a use of As Foretold.
After the climatic moment when narset resolves, we immediately set to work solidifying our position. the deck is specially equipped with as many obnoxious destruction and removal cards as possible, which will specifically allow narset to stay in the game. By crushing your opponents creatures, lands and other resources while keeping Narset on the field, we gain a rapid card advantage. Cards such as Razia's Purification keep Narset and two other valuable board pieces around, while dodging whatever protection our opponents creatures may have. other cards like Cataclysm will destroy the game in its entirety, save for your much coveted (up to) 4 free spells a turn.
Though i personally feel dirty using combos to win, being a bigger fan of complete and utter trolling to kill my opponent, i have included some mandated power plays to end the game if you so chose to wield them. The first is Proteus Staff+ Goblin Charbelcher , which allows the player to Proteus Staff away their Narset. As Narset is the only actual creature card in the deck, you will reveal cards from your library until you again reveal Narset, and then are able to order your library in whichever order you so desire to literally "stack the deck". By putting Charbelcher at the top, and all your nonlands beneath it, culminating in a final mountain to end the stack, you can gun down any opponent for lethal almost instantly. Currently, the only other "combo" is just a strong synergy between Narset and Strionic Resonator, which allows you to exile the top 8 instead of just the top 4. In the future, i plan to run a Approach of the Second Sun, which will also combo beautifully with Narset and Strionic Resonator. Scroll Rack is also currently being heavily considered for inclusion, as it would allow you to replace cards in your hand you don't want to play into the land of Free Spells.
Why no counterspells? In my local meta, most of the decks i play against that are competitive have several lynchpin permanents. For this reason, my mass destruction works well to counteract it. In the case that my mass removal is evaded, i keep cards like Swords to Plowshares in the deck, and the rather overpowered Imprisoned in the Moon . I have found that the easiest way to get rid of a problem permanant like Animar, Soul of Elements, or Bruna, Light of Alabaster is to either pay one , or give my opponent a waste in exchange. Also, nothing feels quite as bad as exiling your 4 cards this turn, and 3 being countermagic.

I appreciate you all taking the time to gaze through my deck list. What is on the list is reflective of the current composition of the deck, and will be updated as i update the deck itself. I am aware my landbase is rather janky, and i'm in the process of reviewing alternative cards for it, and budgeting to actually purchase them. Comments, suggestions, and +1's are always appreciated! also, Green Pls
