Marchesa, the Black Rose Grixis Reanimator EDH

Commander / EDH Competitive Multiplayer Reanimator UBR (Grixis)

marshmallow03

This deck focuses on having Marchesa on the battlefield and swinging at the king (dethrone pun). Usually your attacks will get through unblocked to prevent the extra ETB from Marchesa's ability. I love this deck because even if they have bigger creatures, you can still effectively swing because they'll either take the damage or give you another ETB.

The sacrifice mechanics in the deck are for when Marchesa is on the battlefield and your creatures have counters on them. There is much value to gain from sacrifice outlets, such as Phyrexian Tower, and we get this value at no loss!

I chose to not play counter spells (except Mana Drain) so I could focus more on aggression. Mana drain fits the deck because it has extra utility in being able to ramp at your next main phase and this helps us cast the higher drops or recast the commander.

Deck weakness: without Marchesa on the field, this deck is just an average threat. There are those games where everyone is drawing all of their kill spells and that really slows down this deck.

Animate Dead and Necromancy are my back up plan for when the Marchesa agro reanimator doesn't work. Since Marchesa's reanimate doesn't target cards from the grave, we are able to utilize Sedris, the Traitor King. I don't mind having to exile the creature at the end of turn, because of unearth, when I basically get a reanimate with haste for only 3 mana. Unearth is awesome!

Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Merciless Executioner, and Fleshbag Marauder are all great cards for this deck, but my playgroup agrees not to use these cards because of their overpoweredness in reanimator/sacrifice decks.

I reccomend Slave of Bolas to those interested in a Marchesa deck. With marchesa out, the creature will permanently return to your battlefield.

I don't enjoy playing plainswalkers, eldrazi, infinite combos, or mechanics that steal other players cards so please do not suggest those type of cards.

With all of that in mind, feedback is very appreciated. Comment any suggestions or link your own multiplayer competitive EDH deck for me to check out! Thanks for taking the time and checking out my version of a Marchesa Commander deck!

Updates Add

I have found Grixis Charm to be less useful than I originally thought. I like the utility of the first two modes, but I often find myself having to bounce a creature because the removal part Couldn't destroy the threat. In its place I am going to try Reality Shift. I like this because 60% of the time it will be a noncreature that they lose the option of playing or if it is a creature they will lose its ETB effect.
