Don't you hate having to repeat yourself? Your enunciation was clear, what didn't they understand the first time around? If you must repeat yourself, then leave no doubt with that final notice.

Silverquill is the Elder Dragon presiding over the sentiments of "Per my last email", a formal means of clearly laying out a professionally toned dragging. With this deck, utilize token creation and Aristocrats effects to add an extra edge to every "I think I'm hearing that you're saying-", "If you referenced what I previously wrote-", and "Let's take this offline to discuss further". Every removal spell is actually just a sharply worded email.

This primer and this deck are both still in their earliest stages of play testing and development. My initial ideas with this deck are:

  1. Use a variety of token creation effects to create plenty of Sac Fodder for Silverquill and other sacrifice effects.

  2. Use Silverquill and the other Sac Outlets to either copy instants and sorceries, or gain some other value or card advantage.

  3. The instant and sorcery base is currently more focused on going removal heavy. Play-testing will explore other possible avenues with this focus, such as adding more instant/sorcery based anthem effects to turn the army of Sac Fodder tokens into an alpha striking board.

For me, the token creation section seems like the biggest core of the deck. My gut feeling is that I may scale back on token creation effects by one or two spells, and redistribute those slots to either: More draw, and/or another creature to help round out that aspect of the deck.

The deck currently features the Chain of Smog + Professor Onyx combo, outlined here.

Although I would prefer that Chain of Smog had a bit more utility outside of the combo, I think that Professor Onyx fills out a solid enough support role to warrant inclusion.

For this deck I chose to focus more on cost reduction, and ritual effects that can be copied with Silverquill. The average mana cost for the deck is sitting around 2.44 as of 4/18/26. With how low to the ground it is, it benefits more from reducing the costs of already cheap instants and sorceries, with ritual effects adding an extra explosive edge at all stages of a game. One of my biggest focuses for initial ramp edits will boil down to "Does the deck need another ritual or two?".

Rituals under consideration

These spells could both be effective in a deck like this, but each respectively may be limited by the lower creature count in the 99.

  • Sacrifice - Although the deck has a lower creature count in the 99 for my usual play style, 15 out of 22 creatures have mana value 3 or more. I think between these two spells, I'd be more likely to include Sacrifice.

  • Songs of the Damned - I loved this card in my old Araumi of the Dead Tide deck. Given the lower creature count, I'm not sure how often I'll have more than a couple of creatures in my yard, especially since this deck relies more on sacrificing creature tokens for its various sac outlets.

Silverquill never talks crazy, he speaks in facts only. He issues concise reminders that "That's not sticking around" and "That's not happening".

Rebuttals

"As, I was saying..."

  • Orim's Chant - A means to cover our turns where we can combo, or disrupt other non-creature spell based combos. The potential Fog is nice for versatility.

  • Imp's Mischief - Maybe someone didn't point removal around how you would have preferred. The closest we can get to a Deflecting Swat in this deck.

  • Reprieve - Gets around "This spell can't be countered". Or maybe you want to save a spell of your own from a counter.

Removal

Of the 14 or so removal effects in this deck, about 10 are instants or sorceries.

Removal packages, especially in W/B is both highly versatile and customizable. I highly encourage anyone wanting to brew this deck to really tailor their included removal and instant speed interaction to their regular playgroups.
