Since tokens resulting from copying spells are not "created" Bennie Bracks, Zoologist doesn't do much here. Reki, the History of Kamigawa might be a good replacement.

As a general note, you seem a little light on mana if you don't get one of the untappers. I would probably add another land (Plaza of Heroes would be good and might make it in over a basic even if you don't go up lands), Arcane Signet, Kolvori, God of Kinship  Flip, and the three talismans.

After some more testing, I felt some changes are needed.

Rocco, Street Chef works way better than expected. I feel it has to be in the deck. Even with it forcing a green mana requirement in a Jeskai colors deck that's already struggling with color consistency. It's that crazy.

To try to make it fit better, I swapped out 2xEdgewall Inn and 2xMishra's Foundry with 2xPlaza of Heroes and 2 Restless lands (Restless Bivouac/Restless Anchorage). I wasn't needing the adventure recycle from the Inn in testing but I was getting reasonable color mana value from Plaza. The Foundry is stronger in a creature land role than the Restless lands. I usually find myself with little mana left open to animate a land, so Foundry worked while Restless lands are usually too expensive, but the color fixing on the Restless lands are helping. It's a tradeoff.

I also feel like more needed to be done for mana consistency. Too many mana screw hands were showing up on 23 lands. I tried out Buried Treasure and they're working. They help ramp out a 5-cost spell (especially Quintorius Kand) or mana fix for a Rocco or one of the double-color spells, and the Discover 5 on the back end also flows naturally with the deck's flow. I took out 1xGeological Appraiser and 1xVenerable Warsinger. The Appraiser is maybe the weakest card even though the Discover 3 on cast ETB is absolutely necessary. And the Warsinger is good but getting multiples out tends to stall your gameplan in ways that put you in bad situations.

Lastly, tests with Aether Channeler were giving good results. It leveled up the tempo defensive game that feeds into successfully reaching for a couple more cards/turns before things get too bleak. In tests, that was consistently exactly what the deck needed to stabilize from early disadvantages from faster opponents. I took out the Imodane's Recruiter and reduced Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch  Flip to 1x to fit a couple in. The Recruiter is explosive the turn it shows up but almost a complete blank after that. You almost always prefer to Discover into a Channeler instead of a Recruiter. Pakpatiq does struggle some by how instants need to be cast from hand to get the fun rebound tricks online, (and becomes worse with Rocco), so 2x was probably too much. But I still want access to it to get cheap virtues out.

Hi Votecat,

  • Urza's Saga is amazing in silo but i'm hesitant to include it due to the deck being so demanding regarding colored mana. Sure I could tutor for Mox Diamond, but that depends on the number of lands I have in hand 3 turns from play. I think there is an argument for the Urza's Saga, just not a very compelling one. If I were to slot it in, i'd probably put it in for Volrath's Stronghold maybe.

  • Reflecting Pool - I could've sworn this was in the deck. This is a simple oversight. I'm probably going to cut one of the pain lands to make room. Which one would you cut?

  • Plaza of Heroes is a really cool card that I honestly didn't know existed. The unfortunate drawback is that this card is a little bit narrow in use due to it practically demanding that my Commander be in play in order to be useful. As great as this land is, I just don't find the argument for its inclusion that compelling. Less so than including Urza's Saga.

I always welcome a rebuttal - please let me know if you think i'm missing something.

What’s your reasoning for not running lands such as Urza's Saga, Reflecting Pool or Plaza of Heroes?

Elegant pile. Excellent use of Helm of Possession! Will be tweaking a few of my decks to utilize that tech.

Blazing Shoal might pull out a surprise win FOR FREE. Whenever I see Greater Gargadon I think of this simple synergy. It should be green but somehow red ended up with the biggest free pump spell.

Illusionist's Bracers double Feldon.

Plaza of Heroes Feldon will be a target.

War Room quality draw for mono color.

Inventors' Fair value.

Sequestered Stash interesting mill that's on theme.

Neat deck, but also think you're missing out on a LOT of lands/ramp. It looks to me like you've got 35 cards that generate mana. The deck would play a lot more consistently if you played closer to 45. If you're afraid of flooding, there are some cards that are just plain good while offering you fixing.

Bojuka Bog Sylvan Reclamation Scavenger Grounds Path of Ancestry Plaza of Heroes Homeward Path Dowsing Dagger  Flip Boseiju, Who Endures Bala Ged Recovery  Flip

I heavily recommend adding some of those to your deck to replace non-lands. Species Specialist also seems exceedingly good in your deck.

I return with a few more card recommendations!

Lands:

Westvale Abbey  Flip

It's ridiculously easy to sacrifice 5 creatures, temporarily of course, to turn the land into Ormendahl, Profane Prince  Flip, who is VERY good at letting you go Unga Bunga for a few turns before your opponents manage to deal with it.

Plaza of Heroes

It's functionally a Command Tower, but you want it for the emergency Shirei protection.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

Absurdly good in literally any monocolor deck.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Makes sure you always have all the black mana you'll ever need, regardless of the number of utility lands you have. Gets more valuable the more utility lands you shove in, of course. Combos VERY nicely with Cabal Stronghold

Cabal Stronghold

I see it's in your maybeboard. 110% worth swapping out a basic swamp for this. The mana it can dish out for you on its own is nuts.

Last thing, I'd take out Midnight Assassin.

It's an alright blocker, but I think the slot could be used by something more synergistic. Cuz as that card stands, you spend mana to play it, and it doesn't do anything.
