chickeneyebrows on Path of Precons Frequent Flyers

After the first two plays of the deck it does what it says on the tin (or packet) in that it lets you sit back, draw cards and work towards having a large flying attack force. However, it doesn't have enough answers or disposable blockers to prevent you getting beaten down in the meantime, and the ramp is so poor that Isperia is being cast on time (not before time). The card draw from Isperia is terrible if at that point you don't have a way of defending yourself from all the attackers.

I still think the deck needs better ramp (so more rocks, or a Smothering Tithe) but it also needs:

  • low cost creatures or enchantments which pump out flying blockers for the early turns
  • mass removal that doesn't hit my own stuff, so Settle the Wreckage, Aetherspouts or Cyclonic Rift.
  • a lower cost commander that synergises with the Flyer theme

As I have a copy of Inniaz, the Gale Force I'm tempted to swap that for Isperia. It can certainly pump my board but I'm not sure about the gaining control of other players permanents thing. I can afford to give away flying tokens if I have enough but I guess with opponents it would be best to give away their most problematic creatures etc.

Reynan on blue thievery

Hello fellow blue planeswaker. There a list of monoblue combos right here. I suppose you'll use Thada right? For stealing, there's cards like Willbreaker, Blatant Thievery, you can have a help copying stuff like Clone Legion, more stuff you will find here here.

Inniaz, the Gale Force is a good commander for steal and also gives acess to white color.

I hope have helped a bit.

Cards that come to mind are Heartwood Storyteller, Hive Mind, and Eye of the Storm. Knowledge Pool, Inniaz, the Gale Force, and Xantcha, Sleeper Agent seem to fit the strategy in different ways. There's also the old temp cards like Tempt with Discovery. There's even some combat oriented cards like Combat Calligrapher, Breena, the Demagogue, and Belbe, Corrupted Observer.

Isperia triggers each time she deals combat damage, so yes, double strike is your friend. Cards that help with that are True Conviction, Duelist's Heritage, and Fireshrieker. Some others I just found are Paladin Class which doubles as an Anthem and stax effect as well. Also Akroma's Will, while being a one shot effect it has other applications. Another interesting one is Avenging Huntbonder. While it doesn't fly it spreads nicely with each subsequent attack. Sigarda's Vanguard is better if you have ways to blink/flicker it.

If you want to go full on anthems it may be beneficial to consider a 'go wide' strategy as well.Favorable Winds, Empyrean Eagle, Sprite Noble, Serra the Benevolent, Thunderclap Wyvern (personal favorite), Inniaz, the Gale Force, Steel-Plume Marshal, Windstorm Drake, Kangee's Lieutenant, Gravitational Shift (I feel this is meta dependent), Kangee, Sky Warden. Rally of Wings is one time effect, but possibly relevant.

Aside from blue's signature Counterspell's for saving your board, there are a few options. Depending on your budget Teferi's Protection is an option as well as Flawless Maneuver. Sephara, Sky's Blade is specific to flyers. Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Eldrazi Monument are pricey but are an option. Bounce spells are versatile here because they can remove a blocker which also nets you handle knowledge, or save a permanent from destruction. Scapegoat at least let's you read them, minus 1. Single target spells like Blink of an Eye can save you racking up commander tax. For commander protection, you got the usual Boots/Grieves but Neurok Stealthsuit and Whispersilk Cloak offer more, the former can be uses as a counterspell of sorts for single target effects.

Hopefully that isn't too much info for ya. Not saying include them all, but whatever you feel works for you. Oh, almost forgot... looking at the Sphinx options only a few really stuck out. The first of which is Medomai the Ageless works with the double strike as well, however cannot attack during any extra turns. That said, you just switch you equipment or target over on the extra turns. Alhammarret, High Arbiter Can view a hand and lock a card in it. If you bounce a commander prior you can name the commander. Jelenn Sphinx while small in the front still offers an anthem on the attack. Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign, is iffy. I like the cost reduction but am not a fan of cards going to the yard up to you though. Atemsis, All-Seeing was something else I've been considering as an additional wincon. You can use Isperia to fetch cards of costs you're missing.

Ok, now I'm done for now.

This set has a trend for me. And that trend is to make me sad.

Toxrill, the Corrosive is sweet. But that blue pip angers me. I want to play it in my Golgari or Rakdos reanimator.

Winged Portent is amazing for Inniaz, the Gale Force! But wait, is that a green pip?

I am tickled that the artist seems to have modeled the non-variant Edgar, Charmed Groom off of Michael Sheen, though!

Stardragon on Phoenix Deck color and commander

Grubbernaut-I figured already phoenixes would a weak tribe by themselves and figured i would need a big finisher, atm i have Yidaro, Wandering Monster in the deck for to reasons 1. as a finisher and 2. He can be cycled multiply times which allows to bring back Spellpyre Phoenix. And i have Utvara Hellkite as a big finisher as well.

enpc No i don't want five colors, three at most. I considered green but other than ramp and enchantment/artifact hate i really didn't see green as beneficial, though black green does indeed have great death pay offs im not trying to make an aristocratic style deck. As for Darigaaz Reincarnated yes his ability is reminiscent of phoenixes but since he's your command he just return to the command and ignore the whole egg counter thing though he would ne more expensive

Grubbernaut and seshiro_of_the_orochi No never really thought of Boros as an option i did think of Jeskai but not Boros. As for Zirda, the Dawnwaker while she would help my phoenixes out greatly but have access to blue would also let gain access to flying support like Kangee, Sky Warden, Inniaz, the Gale Force, Sprite Noble, Windstorm Drake, Favorable Winds ect. As for Alesha, Who Smiles at Death she was my first thought as a three color commander but out of the 29 phenoxies she only hits 9 of them with her ability and out of ones I choose she only hits five of them so not sure if she's worth it. But Mardu does access to both recursion and flying sppourt just not the best compared if when with jeskai. But remembering Zirda means that Red White will be at minimum the way to go.

Kwhill on Derevi, Empyrial Tactician

I'd recommend cutting the following cards right away:
Tidal Force (Doesn't do much. Very expensive.)
Siege Behemoth (Good effect, but very expensive.)
Emmara Tandris (It doesn't look like you really have that many tokens. Not sure why this is here.)
Deepfathom Skulker (Good trigger, but expensive, and you can't activate its second ability easily.)
Archon of Coronation (Really easy to lose the monarch and it doesn't do much besides give you the monarch.)
Amareth, the Lustrous (Not really that good. Very rarely will draw you anything in general and the body is very meh.)
Inniaz, the Gale Force (I don't like this kind of effect. You are forced to give up something.)
God-Eternal Oketra (The tokens are okay, but it really doesn't do enough IMO)
Archon of Redemption (3/4 flyer for 5 with a situational life gain effect is pretty bad...)
Angel of Destiny (If it ever gets removed, all you did by attacking, possibly losing creatures in the process, possibly taking hits because your defense are down, was gain life. It just seems like the card really does nothing.)
Trostani, Selesnya's Voice (Not enough token synergy to matter. Life gain is not very good.)
Thassa, Deep-Dwelling (This doesn't do much in your deck. IMO)
Basri's Lieutenant (With almost no +1/+1 counter synergy in the deck, this really doesn't do anything for you.)
Adrix and Nev, Twincasters (Not enough token synergy.)
Niambi, Esteemed Speaker (Can save a creature, but other than that, the card pretty much does nothing.)
Ornithopter of Paradise (Can't trigger Derevi because it has 0 power. Pretty bad as a ramp card too.)
Rhys the Redeemed (Not being elf tribal or big on tokens means that he won't do much.)
Parhelion II (Way too expensive and really doesn't do that much for its cost.)
Righteous Authority (Very expensive and no way to abuse it in the deck currently.)
Cosmos Elixir (You have a ton of draw in the form of "when a creature deals combat damage, draw 1" type cards. You don't need this IMO.)
Sword of Vengeance , Sword of Body and Mind (Not really sure what they're supposed to do for you. Tiny pumps and trample aren't going to help you much IMO.)
Combine Chrysalis (Not enough tokens.)
Sol Talisman (Why is this not Sol Ring?)
Cloudshift , Ephemerate (Almost no abusable ETBs)
Griffin Aerie (Not enough life gain to make this work and not even a great effect.)
Garruk's Uprising (I feel like you should probably be focusing on smaller bodies, not bigger ones.)
Growing Ranks (Not enough tokens.)
Elspeth Conquers Death (Doesn't really do anything you're looking for IMO.)

That's just the ones I would cut right away for not being good in general or not fitting with your strategy.

The token subtheme is kind of unfitting IMO. There's only a few tokens here and there, and a lot of them are "big" tokens, not little ones that can trigger Derevi a lot, but then you also have lots of things to take advantage of tokens even though you don't have that many things that produce tokens (and a lot of times, they're too expensive). If you want to focus a deck on tokens, I think you should choose a different commander.

In general, I think you should probably focus more on having a bunch of smaller creatures so you can get lots of Derevi triggers rather than bigger creatures. This could be a way to work in tokens if you want to push it, because you could focus on smaller tokens that you can push out very cheap and early in the game.

In addition to this, you may also want to consider putting in more cards that you can abuse with Derevi. I love the inspire guy you have in there, Arbiter of the Ideal (don't know if you know, but you can stack tap/untap/tap/untap triggers on him and trigger inspire a bunch of times in one combat!). I think you should focus on this kind of effect more.

I think you should also try to put a little more ramp in there. Sol Ring, Simic Signet, Arcane Signet, and maybe a couple other mana rocks are noticeably missing.

That's pretty much all I have to say about it right now. Let me know what you think!
