Fortunate Few Discussion

Other cards you might want consider if you want to stick more to the 'ramp everyone into oblivion' theme is Howling Mine , Ghirapur Orrery , and Horn of Greed . Heartless Hidetsugu might also be neat in that it accelerates everyone's clock very quickly.

More odd and chaotic possibilities could include Fortunate Few and Aminatou, the Fateshifter

Thanks for the solid advice Zakky234!

I really appreciate the advice and I will still try to help with your deck. I see that our metas are a bit different, given the manabases and creatures we run (I have never thought of Anafenza, the Foremost as something worthy of inclusion).

I forgot to mention earlier, but I also enjoyed the primer a lot - combined with your reasoning in the discussion, it gives such a clear picture of what you are doing and why!

To further the discussion, I run a lower land count, but more artifact ramp - with the new Grow from the Ashes this is looking to change slowly towards more lands and less artifacts. I try to budget my manabase, as cash for fetches are currently not an option.

Queen Marchesa and especially Marwyn, the Nurturer are not something that I have thought to include. Marwyn bringing only green and not having a ton of elves makes me hesitant to include her, can you elaborate why she overperforms, I notice you have cards like Heroes' Podium (didn't know that existed) to buff her significantly, but beyond that, I have no idea.

Instead of urabrask, since I do not like the praetors (or their price tag), I was thinking of the new Garna, the Bloodflame to replace kolaghan - worse body but better effect.

Adriana, Captain of the Guard and Gahiji, Honored One were part of the original inspiration to make this deck, so I am unlikely to ever remove them. They function well enough - give the team a nice bonus, are not expensive money-wise, and are not super scary. The deck is fairly explosive and keeping a low profile early on can be very important and these two do help with that. I like to include a lot of fun, political cards like Fortunate Few - I had Cruel Entertainment in there for a long time.

Have you tried out Selvala's Stampede? That card has over-performed for me every time I cast it early on.

I agree with what Dislavano-Dislavo said, I highly recommend Kindred Discovery and Herald's Horn, as those are some good ways for card draw. Another good tribal card is Kindred Boon, as you can make your little dudes indestructible. You could also look into Heroic Intervention as a combo for your little dudes as well: cast Wrath and then at instant speed cast heroic intervention, and swing with your kithkin.

I'm not a huge fan of fog effects, but that's just me--they can be pretty useful, especially since you have a bunch of little dudes. If you find they aren't performing the way you want to, you can always add more shenanigans. Speaking of shenanigans, Fortunate Few is a good board wipe. You might want to look in to more artifact/enchantment removal, such as Return to Dust or Naturalize. I also know you have a Mirari's Wake, which is usually a staple in all G/W decks, and could be very useful.

Great Start!

MagicalHacker on Official MagicalHacker Commander List Update ...

Welcome, fellow planeswalkers, to the Official MagicalHacker Commander List Update (OMCLU) for Commander 2017!

If you are not aware, I have had lists for commander staple effects for a very long time now, and I have been updating them as new sets are released. Unlike other staple lists that showcase individual cards that are commonly used (which http://edhrec.com does better anyways), I instead use these lists to show all cards in categories that have proven to be advantageous to have in Commander. More specifically, these categories of staples are ones that answer certain problems a deck could be experiencing, such as having a hard time against control, not being able to play cards in hand quickly enough, or dealing with problematic commanders. (The full list can be found on my profile.)

The purpose of this thread is three-fold:

  1. To raise public awareness for these lists (which I know to be extremely useful since I use them more than literally any other resource online when building decks), especially for the newest additions to them.

  2. To receive feedback about C17 cards that should be added/removed from lists, as I am only human and make mistakes too.

  3. To receive feedback about older cards that should be added/removed from lists. I'm surprised how many times I miss cards when they should be included.

Commander 2017 is up on Gatherer, so its now time to go through the process of updating my decks! (Sorry for the delay, I was working through some technical difficulties.)

I'm back. Glad you resorted back to Red w/ Ramos. Can't wait for IXALAN.

Anyways, trying to add more spot removal, and wraths to my deck, but I agree; Overwhelming Splendor is insane. Also want your opinion on Paradox Engine; big fan of the card. I just want a new walker with viable support for my deck... But what cards to cut for them? I am thinking of Hour of Revelation, Anguished Unmaking, even Fortunate Few for a combo with Avacyn, Angel of Hope. What do you think I should cut for these in this deck:

5cc Cromat's Illusionary Walkers from beyond...?
