First there was a little elemental, its name was Animar. It was not afraid of the dark, it was not afraid of the light, which is already a huge bonus against many decks, making him very hard to block indeed, and victory by commander damage becomes that much more likely.

But then it got a friend, and another, and another. At first its friends were small and puny, just like him, but they kept getting bigger and scarier. And each time a new friend arrived, Animar itself became stronger. And each time Animar became stronger, the next friends became scarier. It was a vicious circle.

Then Animar discovered the ruse : its friends were of variable strength. Those that came early knew what to do to enter the battlefield early, and those that came late were able to take full advantage of their tardiness. The trick lay upon a magical little letter : "X".

With an "X" in its casting cost, a creature can be cast early to get the vicious circle started, or it can be cast late and be a force to be reckoned with, indeed. Adjustable strength, see? Mostly from hydras. But Animar just didn't have enough creatures with "X" among its friends to build an entire deck, so a few other friends got involved. They had a similar secret : a kicker. If those friends came early, they could forgo their kicker, and if they came late, they could be kicked and get a bonus. Same principle as the "X".

"But wait", Animar asked, "what if I'm all out of new arrivals to my party? Isn't the vicious circle broken?" Yes indeed... until somebody at the party broke out the bouncy balls! It's time to start bouncing all those lovely creatures! They leave the party and come right back! No, it's not cheating, it counts as a new arrival! Okay, a Cloudstone Curio is sure a funny-looking bouncy ball, but it's still one of the best ones out there.

And what about that pestering Shrieking Drake? He constantly came to the party and left right away! He was such a tease! But each time he did it, it was a little bonus for his friend Animar. All for the price of one Budweiser! Er, I mean, one blue mana (basically the same thing).

And that is the story of how Animar, Soul of Elements became a 14/14 creature, incredibly hard to block, surrounded by giant hydra friends.

Yeah, that's a pretty scary story after all. Not for all ages.
