CamraMaan on Interaction between Stern Scolding and …

Say I'm casting Ivy Elemental for X = 6, and my opponent casts Stern Scolding to counter it. Will Stern Scolding see Ivy Elemental as a 0/0 or a 6/6 on the stack? Does it only become a 6/6 as it enters the battlefield...? My assumption is that it will be a 0/0 until the spell resolves and it starts to enter the battlefield. Thanks in advance!

Two possible additions!

Ivy Elemental is essentially interchangeable with Slime Molding, but notably is immune to Spell Pierce!! Since you're almost always tapping out to get your beater in play, that's a huge level of protection.

Miming Slime is a cheap way to just copy your big, scary slime for a measly 3 mana!

I LOVE this deck! I plan on making a handful of modifications and buying one for myself :)

Oh wow the cost of that card, not for me XD I have a set of rishka, Prema renegade, missing the others. I hadn't considered ramping on opponents turns, that does sound pretty nice.

I need some giant €cheap creatures to dump on the table. On the other hand, Vizier of Remedies + Devoted Druid and you have infinite way faster than fishing or other forms of ramping. By turn 4, possibly even before with some other ramping shenanigans I can't think of right now. Maybe it's the rest of the combo to fish out all the lands. At that point one might want some stuff like Dungrove Elder or an old Ivy Elemental. Just need to keep it alive for a turn or give it trample.

Okay, you have a plan. If you want to get this into Modern, how competitive do you want to be and how much money are you willing to spend?

For at least a couple of starting thoughts, Ivy Elemental is worse here than Endless One , and both of those are worse than Stonecoil Serpent .

You won't get the full effect of Mythos of Nethroi unless you have a Lotus Cobra out, so right now it's expensive creature removal with a conditional upside. Switch it for another Mortality Spear , Maelstrom Pulse , Abrupt Decay , or Assassin's Trophy , depending on your budget. If you add , consider Felidar Sovereign .

Conduit of Ruin only finds It That Betrays , Avenger of Zendikar , and Void Beckoner , and only Void Beckoner might have some use in your main strategy. Take those out and build a different deck around them.

I like the deck and wg +1/+1 counters with sacrifice is nice.

Weapon Rack and Thrive for getting +1/+1 counters on your creatures. Serrated Arrows is a bit of a stretch, but with proliferate, it could help.

Cards with escape like Loathsome Chimera, Voracious Typhon, and Sentinel's Eyes can be useful for you strategy, as they allow late-game recursion that also has +1/+1 counters on the creatures. Travel Preparations also can spread around +1/+1 counters.

Ivy Elemental, Apex Hawks, and Gnarlid Colony are nice creatures that can come in with +1/+1 counters, as well as being flexible in the early and late game.

Antler Skulkin can help with creature protection.

If you're looking for additional "but mana" outlets, maybe also consider Ivy Elemental or Slime Molding.

Hi, I also have a competitive Tatyova list and I was just wondering how this deck wins. Sure you get the infinite combo but then do nothing with the infinite mana (the only thing you could do is Capsize everyone else's board but that is not winning). You are also missing probably the best land you could play: Mystic Sanctuary. In my opinion, you also do not need any of the mana dorks because you are already playing 38 lands and plenty and I mean PLENTY of land tutors you really don't need all of the dorks.

For the infinite combo pay off there are a few different ways you could go. The safest way is to mill all of your opponents by infinitely looping Compulsive Research or Deep Analysis which early also doubly as good cantrips.

Then there is the more casual friendly way by making and infinitely large Ivy Elemental or something similar then slap a Rancor or Aqueous Form on it and kill one player at a time. An alternative way of doing this is with Adventuring Gear on Tatyova (or any other creature) and then with infinite mana flicker, a land and an Archaeomancer to get infinite landfall triggers. Then with evasion, you can nock others out.

On last thing. Tidal Bore + Mystic Sanctuary + Sakura-Tribe Scout + Tatyova, Benthic Druid = Infinite blue mana + infinite life + infinite land fall triggers (as a side note you do need three other islands for mystic to work)
