Lightning Serpent Discussion

Rorolith on Chandra and Her Magical Miscreant Tour v.5.0

Maybe try Ball Lightning , or Scampering Scorcher for a swarm strategy that you can bring back with Thunderkin Awakener . Instead of Lightning Serpent i would put in Spark Elemental because Lightning Serpent cant enter with +1/+0 counters on it from Thunderkin Awakener .

Well, Young Pyromancer was an incorrect choice. Lightning Serpent ... seems better?!?

Good call, Rorolith...so, maybe Young Pyromancer , or some Lightning Serpent stuff. Not a bad problem to have...

Snowmen1 Sundial of the Infinite is actually one of my favourite cards to play in this deck because of the unique effect, it being such a weird and unused card, and the splash of control it adds to the deck! (although it doesn't come up very often) Funny you should mention Spark Elemental because it was actually the original 1-drop for this deck! It actually got replaced with Lightning Serpent because of the late-game mana dump that you mentioned. Not too sure about the direct damage spells as Shriekmaw absolutely destroys most creatures and can be sideboarded for Guiltfeeder , and really controls the board when you can play it multiple times with Thunderkin Awakener . Altough, Lightning Axe does play into the discard strategy so I'll have a look for sure! As for the Nova Chaser s, the idea is to bin them via Tormenting Voice or Incandescent Soulstoke so that they can be reanimated by Thunderkin Awakener . Their champion effect also allows for cards like Shriekmaw 's and Flamekin Harbinger 's abilities to trigger multiple times for added value. Furthermore, championing a Thunderkin Awakener when it enters removes it from combat and can protect it from dying while adding a lot of pressure. Although, it may be worth cutting one or two to make room for some other stuff. The toolbox sideboard is an amazing idea so thank you for that suggestion! Unfortunately Thoughtseize and Collective Brutality are a bit too pricey for me, although you're correct in saying that they'd make good additions, maybe even on the mainboard! Thank you so much for all the suggestions and feedback!

Cool idea to use Sundial of the Infinite . Do you think Spark Elemental has a good spot in the deck? also I would highly recommend you play Lightning Bolt for reach, maybe Lightning Axe for interaction, but it seems you are not too far into the discard cards for Thunderkin Awakener , so it may not be worth it. I never heard of Lightning Serpent , but it seems very sweet, Id say to go to 4 because you can dump counters on it later in the game and still keep it with sundial. I'd also suggest taking out maybe 2 or 3 copies of Nova Chaser , because it is 4 mana, but more so because it sucks to have that card in hand and not be able to play it, especially since a lot of your cards just kill themselves every turn. Spitebellows seems sweet. I think that with Flamekin Harbinger , you could afford to play a toolbox strategy, especially from the sideboard. You could run say one Ingot Chewer and maybe if you wanted to go non-budget, you can splash white for Wispmare . I can see the deck is still in development given the 7 card sideboard, but you look like you are headed in a good direction. few things you can add to the side would be Duress , Thoughtseize , or Collective Brutality . Hope this helps you!

dragonforce60 I appreciate the suggestions but most of these cards aren’t powerful enough to be playable.

I’ll try to go through each cards and give a decent reason

Groundbreaker , Ball Lightning - lack of effect on board state, best case they do 6 damage to a single player which is nothing in web

Explosive Vegetation - considered running this however you are better off adding a farhaven elf, this will allow you to ramp earlier and have something to sac/ trigger to a like birthing pod or Mikaeus.

Hellspark Elemental , Lightning Serpent - same as ball of lightning

Doom Engine!!! - not bad but the 6 damage doesn’t do much, better off playing Wurmcoil Engine which will trigger more kresh, and also has lifelink

[ukabi drake - really just a dead draw 90% of the time, similiar to ball of ligtning

Scourge of Skola Vale - interesting effect however I don’t see the point of transferring ++ counters from one creature to another, this would to better in a deck with lots of walls for ex

Become Immense - most of our creatures are already large enough, you are better giving them something like trample or hexprokf, if you want something that goes good on big creatures I recommend Mage Slayer

Life's Legacy - interesting card that I heavily considered, ultimately you want to keep your large creatures around as that’s how you win games, fling is the exception as it’s at instant speed

Ultimately kresh is greater at getting big, and he goes greater with mass removal that you should already be playing, this deck really goes to try to solve the problem of kresh not having any self protection(like hexproof) or evasion. I like what you did with the fast attacking creatures that die instantly however these cards aren’t good when kresh isn’t around, so you are better of

Hi Cyb3rguerrill0, Well Arc Runner doesn't have trample, so it can be chump blocked with ease. I'd replace it with Lightning Serpent or Hellspark Elemental. I'd also run 2 copies of either Tyrant of Discord, Nova Chaser or Hound of Griselbrand to make best use of Incandescent Soulstoke. If you have a sideboard, you might also want to consider some elemental hate bears Tunnel Ignus and Stigma Lasher...
