Basic Description Show

I wanted to build a voltron type deck to win with commander damage and just plow through my enemies with the master general. This deck simply continues to build up equipment on Rafiq of the Many and win with commander damage. If Rafiq is too much to recast (happens often) then I can build up another creature to attack and win. I'll never forget when I won with an equipped Birds of Paradise.

How the deck works Show

Equipment

Loxodon Warhammer, O-Naginata, Sword of Vengeance, and all of the other swords are mainly there to ensure that some sort of damage goes through with protection and/or trample. The other benefits like lifegain and buffing are of course relevant as well.

Conqueror's Flail - Best kind of protection. I can do whatever on my turn without worrying about interaction.

Hammer of Nazahn and Darksteel Plate are both there to help my commander stay on the battlefied. Restricting my opponents to only be able to exile or bounce Rafiq can hinder certain decks/colors. Hammer of Nazahn's ability to automatically equip makes this an auto-include.

Support

Puresteel Paladin - What an insanely amazing card for this deck. With metalcraft, I can equip all of my equipments for zero mana. That means that all of my equipments don't cost that "extra" mana. Definitely something that speeds up the game if it is on the battlefield. Also, it helps to draw the deck. Sram, Senior Edificer helps the draw here as well.

Sigarda's Aid - Again helps with eliminating that "extra" cost of equipping my equipments to my creatures. All for one mana. 100% worth the card slot.

Sublime Archangel - This gives all my other creatures exalted to build up whatever creature I decide to attack with. With all of the mana dorks I have, this can definitely add up.

Elspeth, Knight-Errant - Her +1 to give a creature +3/+3 and flying truly gets passed so many creatures. Not to mention if this is on Rafiq of the Many he becomes a 7/7 double strike. That commander damage adds up quickly!

Open the Armory, Steelshaper's Gift, Stoneforge Mystic, and Stonehewer Giant are all tutors to get the equipment I need in any situation.

Authority of the Consuls and Thalia, Heretic Cathar are there to ensure my opponents' creatures enter tapped so as not to hinder my attack. While Rafiq can be difficult to successfully block anyway, these are helpful.

Finest Hour is an extra combat step and exalted! Any equipment that can give trample almost makes this a one turn kill.

Dueling Grounds - Protection and aggression all in one. When I attack, my opponents cannot block Rafiq in any kind of meaningful way. Protection in that my opponents cannot swing out at me on the backend.

Alternate

Balan, Wandering Knight has an incredibly powerful ability of just equipping everything to him for only two mana. If Rafiq costs too much in the mid-to-late game then I have a quick, powerful backup.
