Changing with the Times

Metropolis39, 3 years ago

4x Ragavan and 4x Fury are almost auto includes in any red based midrange deck. weird to say that this is now heavy red with green as almost a splash. even playong arbor elf is a maybe. ive been on 2 for awhile and that feels right, however i will be trying ignoble in their place to test. Kaldra and Batterskull continue to feel like the best threats in the deck. im constantly changing the board the paths, RIPs, and EEs are permanent but the rest all feel like maybes.

Update May 25 2022

Malolz, 3 years ago

Removed Forest back for Strip Mine -- who needs basic lands anyways? Cabal Coffers is too strong to be left unchecked

Removed Inexorable Tide for Luxior, Giada's Gift -- Inexorable Tide is great in this deck to help for multiple triggers off The Prismatic Bridge  Flip, but I've found myself always tutoring for something else at the time and Luxior takes cards like Karn Liberated and Oko, Thief of Crowns for double value as they mostly up tick loyalty abilities

Removed Evolution Sage for Planebound Accomplice -- Evo sage was great for proliferating the Planeswalkers with mini "landfall", but I've found myself in many situations that could be solved for removal, board wipe, exiling, or card draw if I just had that planeswalker on the battlefield. Planebound Accomplice accomplishes that for me. And with cards like Elspeth Conquers Death and Kaya the Inexorable's alt, I can even return them at a later date.

Playtest

The deck is pretty low power level, but it works. Just really weak against fast creature heavy decks.

Slight adjustments

NonetheWeisser, 3 years ago

I took out the Mystic Subduals. They were way too niche for my taste. I maxed out Coalition Relic because we ALWAYS want a way to ramp. Added another Flame Slash and a Cyclone Summiner as well. Removed Spell Pierce. Wanted to see if I liked targeted removal more than a 1 of counter spell. Cyclone summiner should add variety to our arsenal.

A few more alterations

Brawler_1337, 3 years ago

I decided to cut the Sliver removal package. In its place, I’m trying Springbloom Druid and Falkenrath Noble as a backup kill condition.

Lately, I’ve been cutting Temple of the False God from all of my decks. Today, I’ve given up on it in Karador as well. This gives me room for the single Scattered Groves. (Finish the cycle, Wizards!)

Land Update

Mrmonster45, 3 years ago

I removed Maze's Endfoil and the guild gates to try and update the land base a little bit. I wanted to add some more lands that would enter untapped to help speed up the deck, again without breaking the bank.

Breakup

eleventhend, 3 years ago

Deck broken up in favor of fun; many cards and themes wound up in Pir, Inventive Rapscallion, power cards and manabase went to Selvala, Omnipotent and Derevi, the Resonator. Atraxa traded for scrap.

Decklist Update #4 - NCC - Thunderfoot Baloth!

Frazzify, 3 years ago

With the release of the New Capenna Commander products, we now have to HUGE reprints that have fallen below $1: Thunderfoot Baloth and Woodfall Primus.

Both of these cards represent a ton of raw power that is often difficult to find within the budget - especially the Baloth.

As such, the following change has been made to the deck:

-1 Turntimber Sower

+1 Thunderfoot Baloth

Thunderfoot Baloth is a fantastic finisher, and adds redundancy to the deck. It is essentially a two card combo with Izoni, as Izoni brings a ton of bodies with them and the baloth makes them all relevant attackers by pumping them. This is one of the things that the deck needed most, so it's inclusion is easy to justify. Turntimber Sower is the cut here. With the addition of Shigeki in the previous round of changes, the role that the Sower played has been usurped somewhat. It is likely no longer needed.

As for Woodfall Primus, it is currently sitting in the Maybeboard. Part of what makes the deck operate well is the relatively low cost of all of its pieces, and for this same reason there is very little ramp in the deck. Without ramp to get there, it's hard to justify such a high MV card. If the deck is reconfigured a bit in the future to include more ramp, this will be a shoo-in.

v1.4 - New Capenna!

KBK7101, 3 years ago

OUT - Marble Diamond, Starnheim Aspirant

IN - Arcane Signet, Giada Font of Hope

Giada, Font of Hope is a fantastic card that works really well in this deck. Both of her abilities will almost always be relevant.

CLB Spoiler season — May 23, 2022

Narrash, 3 years ago

We're not done yet with spoiler season but oh so many fun and powerful cards for Dragon decks. For the moment I'm excited but I must say I do regret that some of these cards are so powerful that they're must-include in Dragon decks, so much so that they streamline decks and disincentivize originality.
- Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm is a new staple for The Ur-Dragon and Dragons in general. It didn't have to be that good but even Legendaries are cloned.
- Korlessa, Scale Singer is just incredible. is such a steal for such good card advantage.
- Wrathful Red Dragon is just a better Thunderbreak Regent. More opportunity to control the board is always welcomed.
- Ganax, Astral Hunter makes for another incredible addition to ramp for Dragons. Combos oh so well with Dragon Broodmother.
- Thrakkus the Butcher is yet another addition to our double strike enabler, and for 2 I don't see why you wouldn't run him.
- Renari, Merchant of Marvels is literally a Vedalken Orrerry for Dragons on a stick. Flashing Dragons for blocks, if your opponents dare attacking that is, is such a powerful effect.
- Firkraag, Cunning Instigatorfoil offers another option for drawing cards and, while not as overwhelmingly powerful as the others on this list, he makes for a very fun card.

-4 Master's Call +4 Charge. Master's Call felt slow and quite useless honestly. Instead, I decided to try Charge, for some suprise boost. +1/+1 is admititadly weak, but with several creatures attacking, it can add up and sometimes give me the upper hand I need.

Additional Change

hootsnag, 3 years ago

Removed Hengegate Pathway. Added Urza's Saga.

I've added Undead Alchemist and Ruin Crab. Both are great additions and I feel like they made the deck more versitile, especialy Undead Alchemist, allowing me to defend myself against creatures, or in a better case, use the zombies to mill some more.

I finally built the deck IRL

Kamashed, 3 years ago

Hi! Finally, I got to built this IRL. After playing about 10 BO3 games with my friends, I have to say that it is working surprisingly well. I took the advise of wallisface and reduced the variety of cards. Now, every card in the deck is either: - Land (Which now makes about one half of the whole deck) - Scute Swarm - A way to find Scute Swarm - A way to put more than 1 land onto battlefield in a turn - Some draw spell. And all of them support the idea of getting as much tokens ASAP. Scute Swarm is the main engine, ways to find it just to make sure it won't get lost in the deck, Lands (duh), ways to put lands onto battlefield to trigger Landfall, and some cards allow me to draw cards aswell, just to keep the flow going.

So far, the deck works just lovely, given the amount of money I sepnt on it. I've kinda stopped wondering how Migratory Greathorn or Parcelbeast would work, becouse I just feel that I would slow the deck down.

Changes I made: +4 Arboreal Grazer +4 Coiling Oracle -4 Lotus Cobra -4 Prosperous Innkeeper -4 Tangled Florahedron  Flip -4 Migratory Greathorn +4 Growth Spiral -4 Mana Leak +2 Island +4 Simic Growth Chamber +4 Explore +4 Neoform -4 Vastwood Surge

I've decided to revert this deck to be a Jund deck helmed by Adun Oakenshield

This was how the original deck was built to be and I feel like returning to simpler times and under powering my own deck.

For those who are still interested in seeing the 5 color build (which is a lot stronger)

I've linked it here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-suicide-squad-copy/?cb=1653321904

(17) A cool gal named Shelia

Phlojemburgisternery, 3 years ago

I just keep meeting cool people. That friend of David gave me some awesome cards for this deck, and one I had my eye on for a while. Titania, Protector of Argoth, Tornado Elemental and Zendikar Resurgent.

Like, holy shit, this will do me wonders! Titania will give me more Tokens, and with Ancient Greenwarden I can just use them again. I'll need more sac lands for it to be effective, but I can work on that. Tornado can help me with flying creatures, which is exactly what I wanted. The current meta at my LGS is for some reason fliers and this'll deal with that quick. Granted, if I have Combine Chrysalis out it'll damage my token creatures, but if Omnath, Locus of Rage is on my board, I don't think I'd mind that too much

Finally, Resurgent doubles my practically doubles my mana. Why would I not want that? To make room for these power houses, I removed Scorch Spitter, Cloudkin Seer, and Nissa's Zendikon. When I first got those creatures, they were kind of filler. And Zendikon was a later addition that I now realize wasn't that good, so this change is pretty good in my opinion
